As I sit here with my 2 loved dogs snoring away on the sofa. Seeing JJ sat alone in a big field was heart wrenching and it made me realise what a lonely life he's had, and how smart he was to survive all those months. Even with his chunky frame he looked so small and vulnerable. Thank you for your dedication, to everyone involved. You're amazing. Without seeing video #3 I know things only got better for this handsome chap. I look forward to the video.

I know what you mean. My heart broke for JJ and how lonely it must have been for him surviving alone. These videos always make me think of my dog who was rescued after he was just born off the streets in Tijuana along with his litter and transferred to a rescue in San Diego. Knowing the life he enjoys now, how spoiled he is now, and the security he has, I sometimes think what if wasn't rescued and was forced to live on the streets. Where would he be know. At least I know where my dog is, and I am glad that JJ is know safe and we know where he is.

I don't know what to say, im one half of "Jan and Michael ". I think im a tough trucker,I think. I saw JJ a few months ago and tried to feed him, catch him, anything. I have a huge soft spot for stray animals. My wife is huge on rescuing but we live in Alabama so I took some pics and sent to her. I figured that if she got the word out on Facebook, I would feel somewhat better about leaving him. She showed me the post about you finding him and even some of the pics that I took that you used on your post. I felt like a million bucks. Now she sends me these videos and I'll tell you that I have not gotten this emotional in a long time, thank you so very much!! I knew that JJ was a great boy when I saw him, he was just so scared. I will never forget him, nor will I ever forget you for caring so much! You didn't have to include us in your post but you did and I am so grateful, THANK YOU!

Danny - the people in your life are so lucky to have you. One of a kind. There are precious few folks who would have the dedication, gentleness, and skill to conduct non-traumatic rescue for tough cases like Mama and JJ. I have now worked on rehab for 3 abused rescue dogs and know just how challenging it is to gain their trust. On the flip side, there is the peace and joy of knowing that you have made a difference to a troubled soul.

The last video on JJ I made a donation and said a little prayer to the Feral Dog Gods! I had faith that Danny who in my mind's eye is the Patron Saint For Lost, Abandoned and Feral Dogs! I would have put fast acting sedatives in the food and it would have been done week one if not day one. I've seen SO MANY CASES of this exact behaviour by dogs, likely dropped off & abandoned at a spot and all it takes is to force the contact for a few minutes, help him overcome the fear and the dog becomes part of your forever pack.

Thank you for your patience and perseverance. It took me five years to be able to touch my feral cat. Now, six years later, I can drag him to me and hug him. I still can't hold him for longer than 10 seconds or so, but there's still time. He's worth it.

I am SO glad you were finally able to catch JJ and that he is finally safe! Congratulations. Your hard work and patience paid off. This brings back some old memories. I wish we had documented our (very similar) rescue story but back in the early 2000s, we didn't think to film these things. The dog we rescued was a small purebred Chow female that had also been living as a stray for over a year by the time I found out about her and it took us an additional year to finally catch her. Like JJ, she was very weary of humans and would only allow you to get within 10 feet before bolting away. We tried everything we could think off, including putting up a huge fenced in area, hoping to trap her in the enclosure. But like JJ, she was very smart and would not eat or stay within the enclosure long enough to allow us to trap her. Luckily, we were finally able to get her and she lived the rest of her life in a loving home. Thank you for sharing this story.

I have trapped 6 dogs left to find their own way by cruel humans. Sometimes taking 3 to 5 weeks, I found good forever homes for 3 of them after I had them fixed and kept three of them. Best, loving dogs, with beautiful souls. Over the years I have placed many dogs in loving homes and I have kept the to abused to place. All of them my angels, living long and happy lives enriching mine beyond words.

It's just like thousands of carefully done rescues. The dog really wants to be rescued. They just need to have their trust earned.
