Inspite of his great knowledge in the subjects of his discourses, his humility is unparallel. Please continue your good work Prof. Lenox. May our Lord keep you in good spirits and health.

As a Buddhist Agnostic, Professor Lennox is the very best spokesman for your point of view. I sincerely hope that you value him and promote him accordingly. He single-handedly is redeeming Christianity from Its present state of disrepute. His voice must be heard in the modern marketplace of ideas. P.S.,as a former member of your 'tribe', I'm still rooting for you. Please,I beg you,preach the Gospel by your example. Don't bring disrepute and hypocrisy on the teachings of our Christ. @@AtamMardes When the Allies fought against Nazi Germany and bombarded Berlin (and other cities), my mother's parents died, on April 14th, 1945. My mother was 15 months old. Were the Allies guilty? Maybe one could criticize the extent of the bombardement of German cities where relatively innocent civilians were killed. But all in all, it were the Nazis who started WWII and hence responsible for my grandparents' death. The Canaanites were utterly gruesome and even slaughtered their own children. God had warned them over and over again and waited for 400 years whether they will repent and turn from their whicked crimes. And after the Israelites fought against them, only a few verses later, Canaanites were still living there! You know, people often want God to stop all the evil in the world. In the Jewish Bible (=OT) He did exactly that. And He is the source and giver of every single life. Since God is holy and perfectly just, He cannot ignore our wrongdoings (it even starts with gossip, greed, hatred, selfishness, cheating). Since God loves us despite our rebellion against Him, He became human and took the punishment we deserve upon Himself. Therefore, He can forgive us and give us eternal life.

Lennox doesn't need to debate Dawkins. Douglas Adams already showed the weakness of his fine-tuning arguments via his puddle analogy as found in his book, "The Salmon of Doubt". It goes like this: "“This is rather as if you imagine a puddle waking up one morning and thinking, 'This is an interesting world I find myself in - an interesting hole I find myself in - fits me rather neatly, doesn't it? In fact it fits me staggeringly well, must have been made to have me in it!'"

Acknowledging the existence of mystery, and the limitations of science, does not give one license to believe in magic. To believe in things that have no evidence to support them, and that contradict the known universe, just because they were written in an ancient book, is crossing the line from mystery into the land of magic. Taking the Bible literally requires the belief in magic. It is a book of values, not science.

Part of the problem could be the fact that Abrahamic religions like Christianity follow books of laws that at one time allowed their followers to commit actions that we now understand were immoral. They did not seem to realize it was immoralat the time, which is problematic, as they base their morality on these laws...that allowed immorality...One can highlight the problem by asking: Is it ever morally acceptable to be allowed to purchase another person and consider them property that can be passed on to your children as an inheritance?

@@GuessWhoAsks I do not see chattel slavery as describe for the Jews. But that slave was then treated with the same rights as everyone else. Under chattel slavery if a slave was murdered by their owner, then it was just a business loss. In Israel if you murdered your slave you were put to death. if the slave lived then they went free, so you lost your slave. Do you know that indentured servitude and to some degree apprenticeships are a lesser form of slavery, but in which both sides benefited? Yes, I am sure that all slaves were freed. But I want to address the point that you brought up in that "46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly.", in which they do not rule over other Jews. Now back to the Jubilee, Leviticus 25:9-10. I see the phrase " every man", which is all slaves. I answered your question about the slavery, but it was indentured servitude as that was part of the way things were done. We outlawed the practice in Western civilization because it was easy to abuse. So many of the Europeans coming over to the Americas faced very harsh indentured servitude. Yes, I am claiming that slavery has been removed from Western civilization. It is your choice if you want to live on the government dole, so you put yourself into slavery that is your fault. But are you ignoring the real argument in that the remainder of the world still has slavery. Just look at China and everyone is a slave to the state by force. Look at India that supports slavery and class subjugation. Look at Muslim states that still support chattel slavery.

@kennethgee2004
@kennethgee2004 Жыл бұрын
@@GuessWhoAsks I think I am using the standard definition of chattel slavery as discussed in history. People are bought and sold as property just like cattle. They have no rights and and be treated however the owner sees fit. I do not see the slavery that Israel held as chattel slavery. I see that used properly indentured servitude can be a good thing. , which is why I went in length to make the distinction. I see that apprenticeships where used in history to teach people a trade that they normally could not learn. This would allow for the creation of wealthy, which is an overall good. The context was already given. All slaves were to be returned to their homes. There is no secret code or gas lighting here. It is just plain language. I expect the life expectancy was around 80 years like the Bible said. I believe that in the past a lot of children died and the average life span was decreased drastically because of it. I do not expect that a slave in Israel would have have their life span shortened because they were a slave. I expect that their life span might be increased as a slave owner in Israel had the responsibility to feed their slaves and provide shelters. You bring up child trafficking and sexual slavery, but those are just another form of chattel slavery. I am claiming that in Western civilization that this form of slavery is illegal versus the open chattel slavery that you want to attribute to the Bible or the open slavery that is still held in Muslim countries. When we find such slavery in Western civilization we end it, and punish those doing it with legal proceedings. There is a problem because because humans are evil. There is a problem because those practicing were not taught to value family and God. I would go so far as to say the problem is horrific, but not rampant in Western civilization. In large, slavery as an acceptable practice is removed from Western civilization. I would guess who you are as a person is someone from Western civilization. Why would you want to view history in such a way, and then think that it is all because of religion? Could it be that humans are actually evil and without God we would fall to our base desires? But then without God we would not be here to even ask the question. So why do you want to find evil only in those that believe in God? Why do you not find the evil within the person? And for that matter why do you not find the evil within yourself?

@@kennethgee2004 Job 26:7 is a difficult scripture, but my understanding of it would be that God streches out the firmament dome, which always means a solid surface, whose height is in the North (Isa. 14), over the empty place, which is our atmosphere, and the earth below is not hanging on anything. In numberous scriptures it is supported by pillars and bases and foundations beneath, so that it cannont move [out with the spinning ball hypothosis] The assumption that satellites disprove the flat earth, shows again the backward reasoning of modern scientism (not real science.) Who said satellites are real? We were told a lie, and then then draw more conclusions from the lie. There can be no satellites going around a ball, because the earth is not a ball. Any satellites that do exist are carried by helium balloons, and they are not orbiting around anything. I think if you did your own experiments, you might be convinced. Place a light at water level; view the light also from water level 4 miles away. If you can see the light, there is no way earth can be a ball. The globe deceivers tell us that at 4 miles, the light is 12 feet under the line of sight; you can not possibly see it. Also check out the moon landing hoaxes with a critical eye. Everything spells "fraud." See Rev. 20:9 where the earth is describe as a plateau [flat]. See the 24/7 live stream "Celebrate Truth" for loads of evidence, both biblical and otherwise.

Here's a short poem for Mr. Lennox penned by Philip Appleman. Gertrude I wish that all the people who peddle God could watch my mother die: could see the skin and gristle weighing only seventy-nine, every stubborn pound of flesh a small death. I wish the people who peddle God could see her young, lovely in gardens and beautiful in kitchens, and could watch the hand of God slowly twisting her knees and fingers till they gnarled and knotted, settling in for thirty years of pain. I wish the people who peddle God could see the lightning of His cancer stabbing her, that small frame tensing at every shock, her sweet contralto scratchy with the Lord’s infection: Philip, I want to die. I wish I had them gathered round, those preachers, popes, rabbis, imams, priests - every pious shill on God’s payroll - and I would pull the sheets from my mother’s brittle body, and they would fall on their knees at her bedside to be forgiven all their faith.

It's amazing how people like John Lennox refuse to accept the true age of the earth, evolution etc even though there is a vast amount of evidence yet they believe the theory of god with zero evidence.

Lennox is an old earth creationist. He wrote a book about the subject. Seven Days That Divide the World: The Beginning According to Genesis and Science

What is the true age?

@@tomgreene1843 I believe there is a debate between Christians with regard to the age of the universe. The old earth creationist say that God created the universe 13-14 billion years ago. Young earth creationists say the God created the universe thousands of years ago. The debate seems to center around the original Hebrew text of the Bible. Although there is healthy debate amongst Christians on this topic, the core belief between these two groups remain the same. It's kinda like the different denominations of Christianity. Some interpret the bible a little differently but all believe in the truth about salvation.

If you’re going to make an ad hominem attack, at least try to make less than three spelling/grammar errors in one sentence. Otherwise others are bound to use the same fallacy against you! ;) I’d also recommend to at least take the arguments seriously and watch the whole video with an open mind (if only to understand the other side).
