That was profound. "The Universe is so vast and we are so small. There is only one thing we can control. Whether we are good or evil."
@Finsternis..
@Finsternis.. Жыл бұрын
If by profound you mean profoundly wrong, since good and evil are relative terms. What you might consider good I consider evil and vice versa. And a third party might consider both either good or evil. It may also change over time. The perception of good and evil is wholly based on the perception of another and different for each individual. Now one could argue that the ascended constitute some kind of hive mind in regards to our plane of existence, which they don't, but even then this would be to be disregarded as there is no point looking at this concept across planes of existence, since the priorities and as such morals differ too much.

@@JinxTheCat_playsactually, it seems clear to me that this quote alludes to the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi and refers to the concept of freewill... which many scientists are claiming is an illusion and that everything is actually predetermined. We certainly do not have "free" will; however, if every action is actually already predestined then our systems of "justice" & punishment are truly cruel and the closest thing to evil I can think of! I find these assertions to be preposterous; but regardless of whether or choices are an illusion or not, there is no good argument against believing that we can choose! In fact, there doesn't seem to be any good argument for rejecting the belief in freewill! Another crucial nugget of wisdom in this quote actually affirms the relativity of good & evil! What is important is that your choices & behavior reflect & align with what you believe to be good. While I do agree that good & evil are not absolute, it also seems clear that they are not interchangeable nor completely relative. The important point seems to be that we need to go through the internal wrestling of ideas to resolve that the choices we make are good; or at least as good as we can makes under the circumstances and with the information available to us. Sometimes there will be variation is what is good or evil between one individual and another; but there are actions that can only be considered evil and never be painted to be good!

@@Finsternis..The argument you refer to in your final paragraph is essentially the explanation for why the Ascended Ancients have their policy of non-interference with the lower planes. BTW, it might not be a terrible idea to keep in mind what this is... TV... Entertainment! And while the producers did employ some advisors to increase the level of accuracy & believability in their stories; for instance the Air Force sent a representative to make sure that the series did not mis-portray them in certain ways. Scientists were also brought in to evaluate and assist in improving the fictional component of the science fiction. However, they did not bring in linguists or philosophers which is unfortunate because those are the two areas/topics that tend to be the weakest and most prone to flaws/errors/contradictions in the stories...

@@Finsternis..You literally sound like classic Dr Who villain saying foolish stuff like good is relative. *"Evil??! Your evil is my good! I find this good."* This is why atheists are wicked to the core. Their morals (or lack of) change quicker than the weather does and are just as unpredictable and destructive, all on the whim of their feelings.

Guilt. It is always guilt. Guilt and self-incrimination. Evil characters have tonnes of flaws, but good characters always boil down to one single thing; "I failed, I could have done more." That was the one thing that still anchored Daniel to the physical plane. Oma basically told him to "Shut up with your whining, you meant well. Now up you go!"

Buddhism teaches us that you can reach freedom, peace and enlightenment by letting go of your attachments. Your need to be better, your need to be popular, your need to be anything is holding you back. Keeping you from being free. All you have to do is let go of the things you "need" and accept that you are who you are and that that is perfectly fine. That is Ascension.

And his impatience here (and rather often in general) is TOTALLY out of line! That certainly isn't the way I would act or feel towards a higher (ascended) being that was offering me eternal life! I would say that the writers blundered here. Actually, I find the way they wrote for any/all ascended beings to be very short sighted and unconvincing. They could have done a better job!

@@rexthompson5909 this is very true,the creators of Stargate picked the perfect time to end SG-1,I absolutely loved the show and watched it season 1 to 10 nonstop but it was starting to get played out. Then Atlantis was there to catch us,but that series was too short (should've been longer)and then they gave us Stargate universe which wasnt too good but I still watched the first season,and I hear it left them on a 10 year cliffhanger.
@HarleyHerbert
@HarleyHerbert 2 жыл бұрын
@@johnsheppard5257 I remember at the time hearing that both Atlantis and Universe got cancelled because MGM didn't want to continue the stargate franchise for some reason. Atlantis ended up continuing in a book but the show was dropped, though people convinced MGM to allow the making of the ending we did get rather than just dropping it with no ending. But as the ending to the whole show had to take place over such a short amount of screen time it was inevitable it had to be rushed and stuff left out. Universe on the other hand they decided to just drop completely. The creators of the show put most of the characters into stasis pads just in case the show ever got picked up again so they could continue but that's not happened so far. Apparently the actor for John Sheppard tried to save the show by trying to find investors to invest in further development of the franchise and new companies to take it up but despite his work he had little success. Stargate has the potential to do so many things and they only touched on a small amount of that potential. They go to distant planets exploring alien lands and cultures, something shows like Doctor Who and Star Trek have been doing for decades. Perhaps a new show of one of the other SG teams would be interesting to watch, seeing them doing the ordinary exploration that SG-1 was usually too busy saving the galaxy to do. Whilst they are off on their adventures, here's this other team who met a new species somewhere or helped another culture with their problem, or found a new animal species or something.

@DJJonPattrsn22
@DJJonPattrsn22 3 жыл бұрын
The first time Daniel Jackson died was in the movie, and he died in other episodes of SG-1 prior to this one as well... The number depends on how you count. But most importantly... I really don't think he actually died in this episode, although that is rather murky and up for debate. Although I would say that he died before the 2nd time Oma offered him ascension. But apparently the "others" (Ancients) decided to give him back his life for his role in getting Oma Desala to do what she should've done long ago with Anubis. But, of course, that would've prevented her from ascending him here... (Although it would've saved MANY other lives!)
@AzguardMike
@AzguardMike 3 жыл бұрын
yeah Ra killed him in the film, then he "died" again to the Fish Monster who faked it. Then to the Jaffa only for the Nox to revive them all. His parallel self died in the mirrror universe episode before the season one finale where he says "uh-oh i think im dead. The-the-the me from this reality" Then again in ep 1 of season 2 aboard Apothis ship but used a sarcophagus as he was dying before going to the Alpha Site. Then he ascended because Micheal Shanks wanted more of the dollar dollars. Then he died again to repli-carter. He also became a Prior of the Ori (evil ancients) but he got better because "Merlin" Not to mention the time travel episodes later, or the carter multiverse episode where her naqadria generator explodes. (never got that far after Jack left and they bought in Farscape actors)

@@AzguardMike AWESOME! Thank you for that run down... 👍🏼 😁 It wasn't actually Ra that killed him the first time, but one of his guards (don't recall which- or if it was a named guard), it might have even been one of the humans because I think he was trying to protect Ra at the time (or wasn't clear to him how evil Ra was, yet). And it was an accident, which is why I believe Ra put him in the sarcophagus. The only person that Ra himself actually killed, with his hand device, in the film was his own guard.

"Ascension" in the sense in the video described here is impossible, and the more you practice in this way the worse it'll get. You're amplifying the samsaric material in your mind instead of seeing it as empty of self. You need to stop practicing, or if you insist on continuing to practice meditation you need to find a competent meditation teacher who can help you ground yourself in emptiness. Practicing like you have can also lead to psychotic breaks. I sincerely hope you've stopped trying to "ascend" and have balanced your life out since you wrote this comment.
