If You’re Not Feeling Loved

If you’re not feeling loved by someone you love, take courage in the story of Leah in Genesis.
Jacob, Leah’s husband, did not love her. In fact, what’s even worse, he loved her sister, Rachel, instead. Leah named her first three sons out of her hope and desire for her husband to love her, thinking if she bore him sons he would love him. She named her first “Reuben” which means, “Look, a son,” saying, “Now my husband will love me.” She named her second son “Simeon” which means “listening” because she felt the Lord heard her prayer for Jacob to love her. She named her third son “Levi” which means “joined together” because she believed this time her husband will finally be joined to her.
By the time she had her fourth son, she named him Judah, which means “may God be praised.” She finally stopped trying to make Jacob love her, and instead she let go and let God take over. It’s no coincidence that Jesus would be born from the line of Judah.
Some people love people the way they know how to love, and the beloved just doesn’t notice. A father may love her daughter through acts of service rather than words of affirmation or quality time.
Others may simply not love you, but that does not mean you’re unlovable.
You’re chosen by God for a reason only you can know. Do not wait for someone else to give you the love that God the Father has already given you.

I was married for almost 50 years to my husband who was a very difficult man who exhibited his lack of ability to show emotion through an alcohol addiction. I was devoted to him but it was hard to say I loved him. He passed away 1 1/2 years ago. After that separation, I am finally able. daily. to see all the things he did for me that showed his love, the care of details that now allow me to live in comfort and leisure. It makes me sad that I did not know how to approach him to help him with my love. The absolute most loving gift he left me was four of the most wonderful, attentive, devoted children who loved him despite his failings. God is so good and now I can thank Him for the man I spent my life with.

So many people needed to hear this message, Father. Thank you. But Jacob's lack of love for Leah then extended to his sons, wounding their hearts so much that they hated and tried to kill their own brother- Joseph. Ultimately God brought good out of that awful situation. Fast forward to present day and our families... So many people walk around with wounds from being poorly loved. I wish they could all listen to your message and believe in its truth.

Actions speak louder than words but both is best. Children thrive with love and grow into adults who give/receive love openly. We teach our kids that the greatest example of love is Jesus, his life, his words and his actions. If you weren't loved as a child or if you aren't feeling loved now by your earthly family, always know that you spiritual family: Jesus/Mary/Joseph, the Saints and your guardian angel are always by your side. 🙏🏾

Thank You Father Mike💜✝️💜 Yes it is difficult for some men to show affection, (old school Dad's my grandfather), was absolutely this way. He could not say I love you, nor hug either. but I could greet him with a kiss on the cheek, good morning, goodnight, hello, goodbye! He was not a sit on your lap fuzzy grandfather at all but I knew he loved me. He was often silent and he worked vigorously hard to build a home for his family and he came from very poor. He truly gave meaning to the Biblical words "Say Yes when you mean Yes and No when you mean No" 😂😂. I knew he loved me though because, in his way he protected me and he would watch over me and make sure I did not go around with friends who would do untoward things and, the way he provided and, the way he would be so Compassionate to many people. He owned a little store in the Bronx and often fed Sooo many people who could not buy the food so he would literally give it to them and, if they could only afford a small portion for example of coldcuts yet, he saw that would not feed the family, instead of giving 1/3 pound he would give a pound and charge only for a 1/3 pound. He was very kind to animals as well often rescuing them. So although he was not an affectionate man he was indeed a good unselfish man and I Love and Miss him very much🙏✝️🙏

Patience Mabaso, I know 100% how you feel. I was very much like you, and if the truth be told I wouldn't say boo to a goose. Nowadays however, If people are rude, blunt and overbearing, not to mention selfish towards me, I will give as good as I get, and sometimes EVEN MORE than them. I will snap at them when I answer the phone to them, and answer in minosylables if I meet them face to face, and yawn at them if I am bored or fed up with them. I Just don't bother to hide my feelings about them sny longer, and it SHOCKs them. Now they keep asking, are you alright, and they're quite scared of me. I absolutely love it when that happens, cos now they're getting a taste of their own medicine, and it's really unpalatable for them. You should try it on your detractors some time. They'll think twice, before they verbally abuse you again.

Brian, we never know who we truly touch and how we impact someone. Many years ago when I was still living in Ireland I had some friends who spend a few weeks sailing around Wales. On their adventures they met a young Welshman. This young man when hearing the Irish accents asked them where they were from. When they mentioned our little village in County Louth the young Welshman said ‘my best friend lives there!’ When my friends told me the story, I remembered this young man who had spent a summer internship at a company where I worked. We had enjoyed working together and I could tell he was going to be an excellent engineer, but never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d made that much of an impression on him. I’ve carried this story with me for many years. I’ve seen it repeated in my life many times. I’d encourage you to be open to see how you have impacted people in your life and I truly believe you will see that you are loved, it’s just not readily obvious because you may not look for the signs.

And there were so many circumstances that made it hard for them to even say it are use my dad‘s example he didn’t understand a lot of things about having children like holidays or family time but as I got older I learned that my father was given up by his mother after winning him in a divorce case she sent me to a home and the home is in those days we’re just a bunch of older boys that weren’t adopted and or really poor kids and they really didn’t express love it that time at the home so he had to spend his life learning how to love him because of his circumstance of being alcoholic made it hard to acknowledge that anybody in that house you could love me including my mom but I realize amongst their struggles love was there and the fact that it was so hard for them to show it now as I am older makes it a greater gift.

A priest said this that struck me: If you have to prove that you're worthy in order to be loved, you'll constantly have to prove you're worthy.

"Ah, sinful nation, people laden with iniquity, offspring who do evil, children who deal corruptly, who have forsaken the Lord, who have despised the Holy One of Israel, who are utterly estranged!" - Isaiah 1 : 4 - Even the Lord himself is not loved the way He deserves, the living God who has created us, in fact people now hate and despise Him even more. Let us praise the Lord for all the wonders He has made, He is our final goal in the end! Everything will be made right in God!

Thank you so so sooo much for this Fr. Mike. Feeling unloved and thinking I'm unlovable is something I've been struggling with a lot over the years and more so as of late. It's a timely reminder that just because other people's hearts are limited, that does not mean we are unlovable or unworthy of love. God loves us unconditionally. May God be praised indeed!

Sometimes it can feel like you're the only one going through something like this. I know everyone always say this but this ABSOLUTELY came at the exact right time, as I was crying because my dad yelled at me (just the usual) and I can't possibly explain how profound your words penetrated my heart, how much it truly felt like you were speaking to me and just how much I really, REALLY needed to hear this. Thank you so much father 😭💖

Fr mike I recently left home because my parents choose my brother instead of me. They don’t care how he does whatever he wants and is risking our life’s so I finally left home but I regret it. But I don’t since my brother is still going his ways.

It would be very painful indeed. Maybe your Mum is very limited, just as Fr Mike said. Perhaps she was never shown love by her Mum/Dad, & so has nothing to give Whatever the reason, it's no reflection on you. As Fr said, you ARE lovable. Don't let anyone make you feel like you are not. I will pray for you.

This is a very difficult thing and extremely painful experience and it is a battle daily to overcome that feeling of being unloved by the very person who is supposed to love you most on earth, your Mother. Perhaps your Mother was wounded. You are LOVABLE Nicolas. JESUS Mother MARY is The Most LOVING COMPASSIONATE Mother and She will never reject You. No MOTHER in Heaven or on earth has GREATER LOVE than Mother Mary and, for people like you and me who did not experience an earthly Mother's love guess what- we are Most especially Dear to our Mother Mary's Heart💝 with Love Gemma 🌹

My grandfather treated his two sons very differently. The youngest was his little buddy and the other got harsh discipline. I cannot imagine being the punished child in that situation. It does happen and it is damaging when it happens. It went far beyond in this case having a favorite child.

Wonderful message! Exactly - we are all lovable and worth loving! God Himself before we were created thought we would be wonderful to have and worth enjoying, and now that we do exist He loves and appreciates the existing worth we have as well - He loved us first. Just like parents look forward to their wonderful children, and enjoy them when they finally have them, so does God! Love is not deserved - even better, you're worth loving! A gift is undeserved, and yet we give them because we appreciate the other person and think them worth having - value is not merit. It is better to not deserve to exist, and be considered infinitely worth having and enjoying, than to proudly deserve existence but not be thought worth having! And if God thinks you are wonderful and worth having, then how can any human deny that? Rather, if God Himself thinks this, then nobody can deny what God has decided.

Absurd Sca. I can understand very well what you are saying, but I'm afraid that not everyone believes in God. So your 2nd paragraph, is a little harder to persuade a non believer to accept that.

Amen to that! When the Good Lord touches your heart through an encounter with His Presence, you will undeniably know of his Love and Mercy. He lifted me up from falsely believing I was worthless and inadequate, that I had to "earn" love and attention. I was insecure in myself and it led to excessive worry and doubt. But the Lord who is my Beloved has been purifying and renewing me with His Grace. It's still a battle to not fall back into my weakness but I gave thanks that I'm freed from this darkness that caused me much suffering and confusion. Glory be to God.

Thank you so much for this message! I wish I’d heard it years ago! My husband and his kids, my step-children, left me 4 months ago and I had spent so many years trying to get them to love me, but they didn’t. I felt unloved, but now I know I didn’t love myself and accept that God’s love is all I need. I pray I’ll always remember that and hope everyone learns this hard lesson. One can only change oneself- not others. Thanks again, Fr. Mike.

hey fr mike. I just saw this video of yours and man, it brought tears to my eyes. One, the caption had caught my attention. Two, while waiting for the video to load, I saw Leah's name which is coincidentally the name I chose during confirmation. third, the story was relatable to me, a guy I had loved ended up marrying someone else. But what had gotten me, is what you said about how God had given me love and that other people may not or I had felt it was given insufficiently. Thank you for the beautiful video.
