The space, as stated, doesn't need to be elaborate, just peaceful. A candle, a Crucifix, a statue or a picture (both of mine came from a $ store, but are nicely designed) and perhaps a flower (can be artificial, I have a succulent plant.) What's most important is to USE your space...make it holy by using it often; ask for God's blessings upon that space. Before praying invite the Holy Spirit to sit with you; ask Mary to be your guest.

My morning prayers are on my phone. I pray one prayer before checking social media and the others on my long commute. I say the rosary at night from you tube with one of my 2 favorite priests. It is a peaceful way to end the day

Love all these ideas. For me, one of the blessings of the pandemic is that I began praying more at home. I have a dedicated spot, and I'm looking to add on.

Ideas: Big picture of: Jesus, of Mary. Crucifixes, crosses. Computer, phone, device display with religious display pic. Religious books around. Religious artwork/paintings around (even if done by self/printed). Objects (cup, notepads, etc) with crosses or religious items on them. Clothing with religious reminders. Menorah and Temple of God pics/objects. Bibles around the place. Lamb/angel pics/plush toys, etc.

You are sinning bowing down to Mother Mary. Or any other statue for that matter. But Praying to a mortal woman who passed just like you will is not going to be in your favor at judgement. I caution you, PLEASE repent and follow our Lord as he has instructed us to do.

Older Filipino homes almost always have home altars; new homes typically don't. When I get my own place, I want a home altar if not a little prayer room, and I want to make it beautiful. In the meantime, my phone's lock screen has an image of Hildegard von Bingen, the saint that inspires me the most.

I have a flip phone and on the inside screen I have "Jesu I trust in U." Most of the time I'm in front of my computer in my home office. I have a statue of our Lady of Fatima on the desk facing me and a Crucifix up on a shelf. All of my prayer intentions and some other prayers are on my computer. During day while I'm watching a video and knitting, I'll pause it in a natural break in the video and pray one the prayers. So I pray and knit throughout the day. I tend to "save" the set prayers I know my heart such as the Rosary, The Divine Mercy Chaplet and others for times I'm away from the computer such as hanging out laundry or folding it, cooking, doing dishes, mowing the lawn, etc.

I totally agree that having a prayer space and routine is so helpful. I have to admit though, I tried and gave up on having a candle. I find the flickering flame so distracting and annoying! My crucifix holds still 😀

Agree candles scary me iam too forgetful & scared to forget to turn it off & cause a fire ,I will sometimes turn on a battery operated candle, I also have a cross in living room ,bedroom & rosary beads in those rooms to remind me to pray 🙏🏻 Jesus I Trust in you.

What about electric or battery candles ? The simple one that aren't flickering. I've seen them before every Tabernacle.

I recommend looking at Hallowed. I found a code with Jackie and Bobby Angel to get 3 months of premium for free. I've been using Hollow to follow along with Fr.Mike's Bible in a Year podcast, and after each session, there is a place to journal, reflect, or take notes.

I use my phone, for all the usual social media stuff. But, I also, use it as part of my prayer and meditation time. So, while phone addiction, is a problem for many, it can also, be used as part of our time, with God.

I have a top corner self on my large cabinet with the Sacred Heart plate with red votive candle, little statures of Padre Pio, St. Francis, St. Anthony, St. Peter, St. Michael, & St. Gabriel . Right on my cabinet under the Tv I have a 15" Statue of Our Lady of Perpetual Help who's feast day is on my birthday. I also have a large picture of the Sacred Heart, The Immaculate Heart of Mary, & Divine Mercy. I leave my Magnificat set under the Tv so that I cannot ignore it. I am not bragging. I have had my house blessed . I am very old and in poor health and I cannot do much active work for the church, so I try to do a lot of praying. I am trying to add fasting but so far not having much luck.

Off-topic: May Jesus Christ be with you all now and forever. I'm struggling with bitterness and envy(?) . I'm not poor. I'm destitute. I come from a wealthy family. Having lived in every tax bracket I must wonder, why was the institutional church there when the money was, but is nowhere to be seen in these slums? I'm trying to work through this. Yet it hurts Everytime I here a religious speaking about poverty I cringe. I'm sorry for these feelings and thoughts, but it's true.

If you have a hard time disconnecting from the world when you pray this can be a great help, as it gives you a sense of seclusion. Though I would say remember that it's not the items in your prayer space that connect you to God, but you in the act of prayer. A prayer space helpful, totally not nessesary. I also don't think advocating for "things" to help you connect is a great approach. God wants your heart, not you feeding the christian merchandise machine that's making billions a year.
