I was not really sure about Vass shoes before. After watching this episode I ordered my first pair of Vass shoes.

I have several pair. I really like them. You get more bang for your buck with Vass, handmade shoes made of the highest quality materials for half the cost of bespoke shoes, plus lasted trees.

@@msj7127 Yes EU 39.5 should equate to US 6.5, When ordering shoes made in the K-last, it is recommended choosing a half size larger (EU 40) unless your feet are narrower than average. The K-last features a narrow toe box for a sleeker Italian influenced silhouette. The U and F last have a rounder toe. All of them are beautiful.

I just recently have become more interested in mens shoe fashions and discovered Kirby’s channel. I am glad to see him giving exposure to quality shoemakers whether they be large production companies, small bespoke craftsman, or anything in between. It has been an educational experience for me, as well as providing leads to explore for acquiring a collection albeit a small one. One final note… thanks for featuring the book that was on display in this video. I ordered one for myself and a friend! Brad

Very interesting, thank you Kirby and Mr. Chu. I live in NYC and these look fantastic as a MTO option, which I have not tried yet. I heard of Vass just recently from Hugo Jacomat’s two best shoes youtube videos. These really look supreme quality, and I like the style, not to British and not too Italian. Also, I need to read that book.

What I am trying to figure out is, why would somebody pay close to £1000 for a pair of GW Gaziano & Girling when you can get similar kind of designs (chisel toe and patina overkill) from Vass that are HW for several hundred less? Perhaps I’m missing something. I imagine the people at G&G are closing their eyes and crossing their fingers that the word doesn’t get out.

I think some G&G patterns are a little nicer but this is subjective and overall I agree with you. ~$750 (when you buy direct) for a pair of handmade shoes with lasted shoes trees is about as good as it gets. Saying its a good value almost feels wrong since when you remove price from the equation, Vass still comes out ahead since handwelting is the superior construction method.

@@RevJamesCostello Yeah! When you own multiple pairs of Vass you will begin to see the inconsistencies with fit and leather quality. GG quality is consistent - "you pay for what you get"

Great video as always! Do you resole hand-welted shoes the same way you resole GYW shoes?

I know this is a year old, but typically a handwelted shoe is a GYW except instead of the machine doing the stitching, it's done by hand. When the shoe needs to be resoled, a cobbler will probably use the goodyear machine to attach the sole to the welt unless the customer specifically asks (and therefore pays for) the welt to he reattached by hand.

Do not take my words for it, contact me directly I'll send you proof. This company is HORRIBLE. They owe me since April and are now ignoring all my calls and messages. Please stay away. Now I'm here in the US and can't do nothing about it. Paypal won't let me dispute because it's been so long. Please avoid them.
