Those wires were his lavelier mike and the plug in for his acoustic guitar (he had it on his back). Ren is from the UK, born in Wales lived in Brighton did an arts college and was doing really well with busking in Brighton (there are lots of Busking performances with The Big Push, the bad he is part of for busking). At 17 he got a contract from Sony, but shortly after that he got really severe exhaustion and health issues (after which Sony dropped him), this was initially diagnosed as a psychological problem and he went on heavy meds, but the problems persisted. Forward 7 years and he got a second opinion and it was discovered he was completely misdiagnosed and actually had Lyme's Disease, which was wreaking havoc on his body for those 7 years. Right now he is in Canada receiving treatment for his Lyme's Disease (which among other things caused him brain damage and as a consequence Psychosis). He's been a lot better, but he is still very much ill, but at least he can make music again. Ren is a very, very versatile artist, multi-instrumentalist, singer and (a very good) rapper. His music is not easy to categorise (he himself half jokingly calls it Bardcore) since he does a lot of different things, he has straight up rap songs, but also absolutely gorgeous (and highly emotionally charged) songs with other artists. I highly recommend diving into his discography. For Rn singing check out his live performances with The Big Push and'his song 'Chalk Outlines'with Uk singer Chinchilla. For a truly amazing (if harrowing) shakespearen tragedy check out his 'The Tale of Jenny and Screech' (make sure you check out the 'full' version, it's actually three songs that are connected as story and the best way to get everything is seeing them all in a row) . For more of his rap check out 'Genesis', 'The Hunger' and his newest song (which he just dropped) "Illest of our Time". Ren is an independent artist without a label, and he wants to stay that way, so reacting to his songs gives him great exposure. Sorry for the wall of text.

@@abercrombieuser12345 Unknown. He's currently having treatment in Canada (funded by his GoFundMe page), but in recent comments he has made he seems to be resigning himself to the fact that he may always have some lasting issues and may have to learn to live with it and get on with living.

@@abercrombieuser12345 From what I know of Lyme, probably not. Unless you catch Lyme early, and throw a lot of anti-biotics at it, it will become a chronic disease (which is why you always wanna get tick bites looked at. That is not always possible if you don't notice, but Lyme's is no effing joke)

Mental illness is something everyone has pretty much experienced at one time or another. Mental illnesses are health conditions involving changes in emotion, thinking or behavior (or a combination of these). Mental illnesses can be associated with distress and/or problems functioning in social, work or family activities. What can trigger mental illness in someone? So many things such as childhood abuse, trauma, or neglect. social isolation or loneliness. experiencing discrimination and stigma, including racism. social disadvantage, poverty or debt, self doubt, self worth....****the beauty of this song is that it helps soook many people to realize and understand that others are going through similar things and that you are not alone feeling the way you do. It helps and it helps many.

Ren just turned 33 (and released a rap track on the occasion), he is Welsh born, studied in Bath and lives in Brighton (UK)... now in Canada for several months for treatment and surgery. This is a legit rabbit hole you're getting into.. the man can play amazing guitar in multiple genres, and sing in even more.. he's a rapper at heart, with heavy influences from reggae, ska, metal, classic rock, 90's hip hop... he does a lot of his own stuff which tends to be heavy and introspective and tackle the biggest themes in life (he's had a lot of health issues that he is still working through, both physical and mental, caused by an undiagnosed Lyme disease that ravaged his body and mind for 8 year before proper treatment was found)... and then there's the whole chapter of him busking and singing all kinds of stuff with his band, from Police to Black Sabbath, from Bob Marley to... Manu Chao, of all things (90's represent :P ). His own music is also crossing multiple genres, as do his videos that he personally has a big hand in directing and conceptualising. He is the full package, and he is not working with a label. His more intimate and personal songs are mostly inspired by his own medical history, and other life experiences (such as losing friends to suicide)

I love that the first line he proper sings (not just raps) is “Cower at the man I become, when I sing at the top of my lungs”. So powerful, and also so meta.

Good Reaction. You must see the tale of Jenny & Screech (trilogy - full story) or the tale of Jenny, Screech and Violet in that exact order. It will be great to appreciate Ren's storytelling side. But there is more, much more. See "Chalk Outlines", "Losing It", "The Hunger", "Diazepam" "Money Game", etc... The lyrics are the best!

So much of what happens in this performance is not about mental illness but that nagging voice of doubt that we all have that can prevent us from reaching for our maximum potential. There are several other performances available plus some great songs with The Big Push where he and others sing and he plays various guitars as they busk in Brighton.

Hope you go down the Ren rabbit hole. He contracted Lyme disease that went undiagnosed for years that put him through physical and emotional hell. He is from the UK but is in Canada right now receiving treatment. He just turned 33 yesterday or the day before. Not sure how much of a fan of rap you are, and sometimes extremely fast rapping at that, but he is definitely a breath of fresh air amidst all the current music stagnancy. If you want dark storytelling to the extreme and only listen and react to one other song, I would recommend "The tale of Jenny and Screech (Full version)" ... the 3 songs all stitched together into 1 presentation

Great reaction. This is the kind of artistry that gives "broken" people hope. Ren, through this performance piece, has become to a lot of people exactly what he stated in the song, "...the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope". So powerful, so impactful. The song structure itself is incredible. It starts off as a battle between his positive (Angel) and negative (Demon) aspects, the negative then makes an overpowering last ditch effort to reign supreme, tearing free and trying to take control, but ultimately fails as the final act, being the "God" aspect, emerges Triumphant, though still acknowledging and accepting that it will ALWAYS be a battle because we are all "a coin with 2 different sides". It's a beautifully cathartic and raw musical masterpiece. Ren is truly special. Welcome to the Ren rabbit-hole, it's a trip worth taking. This was the 4th take he did and yes, it was done live. Wait until you hear some of his other stuff, especially his storytelling ("The Tale of Jenny & Screech"). You haven't even touched the breadth of this young man's talent yet. The pig character represents the doctors and therapist who have essentially butchered him for years through their misdiagnosis. He literally thought he was going insane because he was told repeatedly that the pain and symptoms he was experiencing were all in his head (psychosomatic). Turns out he had Lyme's disease the whole time and it ran rampant through his system for 10 years, even to the point of causing brain damage. Ironically, if Ren hadn't gone through what he has, would he have ever made this work of art? There's no question that his suffering has shaped his music, he was forged in fire, and now he's finally getting the recognition he undoubtedly deserves. I've said it before, I'll say it again, Ren is special.

Welcome to the RENaissance. ❤ His elocution is amazing, but he can speak very quickly. Thankfully, he pins the lyrics to all of his music in the comments. He got his start busking on the streets of Brighton, so he started as a one man show and had to draw in his own crowd. He's got some great recordings of his busking days, especially with the Big Push. All of his music is great, but from here, it's typically recommended to move on to Chalk Outlines ft Chinchilla (live) and The Tale of Jenny & Screech (full), which was originally released as three separate videos. And from there, my recommendations include: Losing It. The Hunger. Power. What You Want. Genesis. And last, but very much not least, his two latest releases: Sick Boi and Illest of Our Time, both of which go hard.

He's been going though a living hell on and off for over half his life now and hopefully with our prayers he'll be back better then ever. Here are a few of my favorites Ren singles. Plus since you're a rocker I'll give you some songs by Ren and his band The Big Push. 1) "The Hunger" kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4XCl3-vqad5g5Y where Ren shows off his Rapping Skills in (Beast Mode). It's mostly just fun smack talk. 2) "The Money Game part 2" kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6DRhGyVhq-Vppo over 7mil views. A commentary on corporate greed and government corruption. 3) "What You Want" kzbin.info/www/bejne/oKPNoWd6qpWle8U A tribute to late 80's early 90's rap that has a Beastie Boys vibes. 4) Ren - "Blind Eyed" ft. Sam Tompkins kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpupkH2Kl6eNoLM Ren gives us RnB vibes mixed with touches of Jazz on this, ending with some sick bars. NOW THE BIG PUSH FAVORITES 😁 1) The Big Push - Watch Out (live busking performance) kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmG8gYVqrL1lqMk 2) The Big Push - Sweet Little Lady (live striped down version) kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZikg3aYZZZmmdk 3) The Big Push - Why My Woman? kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZOVnmiid8h9bJY While I prefer to recommend live performances, I need to recommend the music video for "Why My Woman" because it's just so damn good. I hated Rap till I came across Ren and his lyrics get you. From Rock to reggae with so many genres he can play, sing and produce anything. It's a great rabbit hole with so much talent that's got all music reactors buzzing. The Big Push from Brighton is Ren's band and all brilliant guitarists, writers and singers. Art for sure!! It's been dubbed Bardcore 😁 Ren's struggled since he got Lymes disease at 16 is finally hitting people now is so good to see now. This is live and forth of four takes with close-ups added to the end. With not much money he's made some of the best music and videos I've seen for a long time. No CGI 😁🙏 The tale of Jenny and Screetch (full) is awesome and a modern Shakespeare tragedy. Subbed and love you reaction 👍👍👍
