Aaron's got a bit of a reputation for building tough street and race cars so it's no surprise his own car is just that - a near perfect blend of a tough street car that also runs 8 second quarters on a drag strip!
In this episode of Haltech Heroes we travel to Queensland's sunny Gold Coast to check out Aaron's twin turbo Torana and his workshop - ASG Motorsports.

I like this machine as the thought process is taking a path less traveled. Sure it’s another LS but it’s not just a conversion slapped in for a skid, the idea of utilising the cooling effect of E85 negating the need for a charge cooler is spot on. Big turbos operating in their efficiency Island don’t need a cooler on E85, it’s not quite methanol but close enough. Good quality throughout this entire build, keeping the stock intake and electronic throttle just demonstrates the ability of this workshop. Hands down the best I’ve seen 👍

I like his methodology on not needing a intercooler, plenty of turbo, good fuel, water/meth etc... lovely machine👍

@@Aseutester No. But it's running e85 which is basically same as running high octane race gas with meth/water injection. Check out the latent heat values of water/e85 and gasoline.

i really love these videos, you guys are doing better and better every episode, my friends car i tune has a stock ls3 intake manifold and we go 7.60@184 @3400lbs, single 210lb bosch injectors on e85, your buddy here might want to look into them, drop in on ls3/ls7 intake

So no intercooler, is he running a extra injector at the merge to cool the air? if so whats that like to tune?

Funny theres plenty of data showing inter-coolers are VERY useful, maybe not so much in a drag car cos you can just use the E85/ menthanol can be used to cool stuff but theres a reason OEMS and alot of race trams use them and fuck the trans brake and bump button cables hanging down around the knees looked untidy with the rest of the super slick build

If it doesn't start very well.... an old mechanic told me to pour a bit of fuel into the distributor and it will fire right up!!! But if you have efi... you just cover your bearings with lapping paste when building the engine and it makes it easier to start,,,!!! Is this true???

Nope just e85 does the cooling jobs same as a big radiator

Ok Tim, I run E85 and an intercooler on my Turbo FG XR6, and it is an integral part of the tune. Cars tha don't run intercoolers are typically low compression, or have conservative ignition timing, eg 15° max @ full noise, or, both. The down side of low comp and timing is, that either a overly large engine is needed or large laggy turbos are needed (or both) to make power, and the spool response wont be as much fuun on the street. Mostmcars running e85 also run an intercooler, and this allows higher compression ratio, and more agressive benifitial timing, (mine is +30° @ full noise), so I can run a smaller turbo to make the same power = faster spool response. Higher compression and timing makes for better throttle response and fuel economy when off boost.

Take the plates off it and show it as a race car, your just giving the cops etc a strong reason to give modified cars on the street a hard time. That car is not legal anywhere in Oz for many obvious reasons. Go do another skid on public roads and film it geniuses.
