I love how as the fight progresses, the animation gets more insane. The whole fight is consistently animated beautifully, mixing that 3D camera and incredible 2D animation to create some of the best sequences in the series. Those insane motions that Ash and Alain do when they send out attacks almost look as good as the fights themselves. The series probably will never look as good as it did here, and its a miracle we got something that looks as insane as this does.

Daniel Lee 0 seconds ago Ash was definitely coolest this season. He may have been serious and stronger but one of his weakness was that he was too focused on battling. Losing at Kalos League taught him that winning wasn't everything. Alola helped him find what he missed at Kalos by connecting with Pokemon and friends in new ways. He was able to win the Alola League because of that. Journeys Ash reigned his XY passion and seriousness for battling as well as adding his willingness to have fun and enjoy the world in front of him. That is why he is much stronger and on par with champions from other regions.

To be fair, alain’s charizard is actually pretty busted. Maybe if this was the games, but the anime functions more on a similar way that shonen anime function do with type advantage not being as relevant, and pokemon are very individualized in the anime too. Even the battle scenes of this season impressed me more than many of Journey's matches at the master tournament. The pacing in the fights was great, this episode was one of my favorites in terms of fight scenes. It's a shame not to see Greninja win with Ash, but it doesn't matter too much anymore, I appreciate that this loss contributed reasonably to Ash's character development. And, win or lose this match, throughout XY&Z season, to me and until now, Greninja has always been extremely cool and strong

nobody is talking about how op Alan's team actually is. the animators really gave him only gen 6 ou pokemon barring unfezant and non mega metagross while Ash didn't even use his best team i.e team with his aces like charizard, sceptile, infernape etc and stuck to his gen 6 team.
