@HeelBJC2 жыл бұрын
The unfortunate reality is that a large percentage of products that KZbinrs resort to sponsoring for their living because of KZbin's unreliability are more or less glorified rip-offs. Raycon/most tech stuff are super cheap knockoff type quality, nearly any VPN (Tom Scott had a great video on that), mobile games literally designed to steal money from naive children, etc. I don't blame the creators. They need to make a living. But I do respect the hell out of the ones like Ashens who choose to perhaps sacrifice a bit of income to not do so (whatever their specific reason for doing so may be). And I'm going to make a "right after posting" edit that this is certainly not ALL youtube sponsors. Obviously stuff like Audible, Squarespace, etc. are legitimate businesses that don't have any more problematic sides to them than any business.

You can always tell cheapo RGB by how short the red cycle is. The reason being many of the cheap LEDs cant actually display more than 1 shade of red because you can't add or subtract red or blue light from equal outputs (cheap RGB strips have only 1 light of each colour and white in each source) The oranges also often look muddy and undersaturated as well.

Actually most modern PC motherboards allow for that kind of 3.5mm jack in practically any of the holes. The software usually asks you what you've plugged in. Makes me wonder why they have different coloured audio ports but yeah, mic and audio output should still work on any recent desktop I think
@JamesThorWolf2 жыл бұрын
I can explain the multi audio ports, most motherboards have built in sound and amp circuits (like the old sound cards) these days, and can drive low impediance speakers just fine. so if you have say 7 small studio montors and know how to wire up the 3.5 jack you can hook them all up for true surround sound. Tl;dr they have a built in amp for multiple speakers for the 7.1 surround setup
@irreverend_2 жыл бұрын
@@JamesThorWolf yeah I know why there's multiple outputs, I meant it doesn't seem relevant to still colour code them on machines where the audio driver just asks you what you've plugged in, since you can plug it into any of them

Same here, I write with my left hand, and mouse with my right hand, and always have. Mousing requires less precise movement than writing, and mouse-on-the-right is the default in many public computing environments, so I would imagine this scenario is quite common.

I’ve actually found that old OEM keyboards are nice and cheap keyboards to get. They usually have function keys(often separate volume and mute buttons) and actually feel pretty decent to use. I use an old HP keyboard from around 2012 on one of my systems and it’s perfectly fine to use. You can find them really cheaply in thrift stores and yard sales.

I’ve found the same, but with OEM mice. I bought a basic Dell mouse at a second-hand shop (that pretty obviously hadn’t been used yet) for C$3 or something and it’s served me faithfully for at least five years now, longer than any other I’ve had.

I brought one of the gaming mice today after watching your video : It rattled badly, so I took it apart to find the weight which they had put in there to make it feel more "premium" was just a screwed in (in my case not: Broken ) piece of metal with no function. It did give me the ability to see what sort of switches they used for the clicks and they appeared to be good. Most fun was the mouse wheel, it works great as a spinning top. I broke the casing too much trying to get the 3 screws out two under the rear glide pads and another under the central sticker to the left. I would have taken it back to poundland but I could do with a USB cable as that was perfect to the mouse PCB with all 4 cables exposed, or I could use the PCB as just a colour changing light. Thank you

A USB cable requires quite different internals (to convert the analog signal to a digital one) so I'm guessing the Chinese knockoff maker here just tried to copy the exterior of the Microsoft headset. Probably for the best since a cheap ADC would sound a lot worse than just sending the analog signal to whatever audio input you use that's probably part of a more expensive machine.

Incorrect: 3.5mm jacks are still widely commonplace, mainly for high end motherboards that support inbuilt 7.1 surround sound chipsets, of which many still require both 3.5mm ports and the use of a single USB connector for power. The only time 3.5mm will no longer exist, is when headset manufacturers no longer create products for it. Though a huge shift has already happened to purely USB powered stereo and 5.1/7.1 headsets

yep. those cheapo Logitech 2.1 sets are actually not that bad at all. Sure, a nice AVR + decent speakers destroys them in terms of sound quality, but if you set the bass knob correctly, they are MUCH better than most of those 90s/2000s micro hifi systems.

Mini rant - I'm glad you point out how having the single 3.5mm jack makes these kinds of headphones near useless on modern PCs (or even slightly less modern ones) due to the need for a MIC input for the microphone to work at all. I ran into this exact issue when I was able to finally upgrade from a dated Macbook to a proper tower PC. All I have are headphones with inline/built-in mics due to gaming consoles using that kind of setup for ease of use or keeping manufacturing costs down (a bit of a stretch, admittedly) or what is most likely the bigger reason being that 'gaming' brands could now just market their headsets across all consoles. Granted that IS handy especially if you have multiple consoles that you need a headset for but it quite literally ignores the use on a computer! Ok, rant over. I do want to say that I'm enjoying your content, especially the Poundland stuff like this. Some 'dollar/pound/etc' shops (at least in the US) don't have any of these peripherals so it's cool to see that the stores that have prices a little above the $1 point do stock cromulent and useable accessories!
