The Bible holds particular animus for two foreign gods in the Bible - Ba'al and Asherah. Today we're going to look at Asherah in the Bible and in the archaeological record. We'll look at the evidence from Ugarit but also at sites in ancient Israel to see what the evidence can tell us about who this figure was and how she was understood by both the religious elites and common day people of ancient Israel.

The Asherah Pole is the caduceus. The earliest forms of the caduceus are a single papyrus stem entwined with a serpent and a tree or a branch with leaves entwined by a serpent or winged serpent/dragon. The Asherah pole was also represented by a stone pillar, again entwined; and of course the brazen serpent of Moses. The caduceus is, in turn, a basic form of the Tree of Life. The serpent imagery has nothing to do with a serpent of evil (as misguided Satanists would have us believe) but rather symbolizes the universal life force or Kundalini, which is indigenous to the old Goddess Religions. Just my own Pagan beliefs, as I venerate both Goddess and God. Thank you all so much for the excellent video :)

@Yaz This is where most people come unstuck :) With all due respect, Kundalini is the energy which everybody shares. You would not be able to walk or animate your body without it - the Life Force of the Universe - so all I am saying is that it doesn't matter at all what one's opinion about Kundalini is, one has it, whether one accepts reality or not. So the art and science of cultivating Kundalini energy is not by any means a limiting factor on what Religion one chooses to be in ay any given stage in one's evolution. The evidence is quite clear though that Kundalini is indigenous to the Old Goddess religions. Furthermore the symbolism which is shared across cultural divides and continents leaves no doubt that we are in fact looking at a once universal way of living. The Goddess and the serpent - hmmm.....how many goddesses are associated with trees, serpents and fruits and phoenixes? Actually though the head of Medusa or the gorgoneion hierogram contains within it the most prominent of Ophidian symbols aside from the Ouroboros. In depictions of Medusas' head, we clearly see the caduceus and winged serpent or pagan dragon of the ancients. This naturally leads to the more detailed tree of life glyph and all of the interesting associations on it and around it which may lead the seeker to a greater sense of awareness of their place in the universe. Blessed be

@zeph6439
@zeph6439 2 жыл бұрын
@Heavy Metal Pulp Actually, the dragon or winged serpent has nix to do with horror and such in pagan thealogy. In ancient symbolism, when (let's use the Native American analogy) an eagle joins with a rattler, one can understand this as being symbolic of the joining together of the Yin or feminine principle and the Yang or male principle of the universe. The Asherah pole or caduceus of the healing arts embodies this symbolism. While it may be true that the Faeries have been changed from Titan to Tinkerbell, there are so many varied nature spirits and Old Gods that applying sweeping analogies isn't really real. I guess the idea that every living human on earth possesses the dragon or Kundalini and that nature spirits aren't weak and powerless in the greater scheme of things makes some people who exist within a self-limiting paradigm feel really uneasy.

I don't really buy this etymology. It is true, that East Semitic _/š/_ often corresponds to West Semitic /h/, but in the case of _Ašerā_ the s-sound does not separate from the h-sound. It might be, that Ašerā becomes Aserā or _Aherā_ , but certainly not by dropping the as-. As a mnemonic that does work, though, if it is factual.

I came to this video after reading about 'Asherah' in week 48 Torah portion called Shoftim (Judges) - Deut 16 :18 to 21 :9 The Word says in : Deut 16 : 21, (ISR Bible) “Do not plant for yourself any tree as an Ashĕrah near the slaughter place (altar) of יהוה Yahuah your Elohim(God) that you make for yourself. Could Asherah be a counterfeit of Yah's Holy Spirit worshiped ?

Because every city state had a king. The kings and queens of these kingdoms were worshiped as patron deities even after their deaths. Human society loves to put people on pedestals. If you looked at Mount Rushmore and didn't know that these were former presidents you'd think that they were four gods.

To my understanding, Ishtar is another version and name of this so-called goddess of fertility and is where the word Easter comes from and worship of her included a springtime orgy where the following year at least some of the babies conceived would be sacrificed and they would paint fertility eggs red with the blood. The Easter Bunny is symbolic of how fast rabbits reproduce, and on a side note also why "playboy bunnies" exist but I digress. Easter is only used one time in the entire KJV Bible and comes from a Greek word that means Passover not Ishtar worship and probably was translated that way because of the culture of the time of the KJV translations were already steeped in the tradition of calling Passover Easter. Anyway, Thanks for the video!

Asherah (She who walks on the sea) is the Holy Wisdom (Hagia Sophia) - the pre-incarnate Christ whom Eve was modeled after. She came from the Father just as Eve came from Adam. The Divine Feminine is the 'second' person of the Trinity not third which the Holy Spirit is. Spirit means 'life' which is symbolized by androgyne or child, Wisdom is his/her mother.

I don't think Asherah is Yahweh's consort. I believe she's his mother, instead, and "Asherah" is being interchanged for "mother goddess." At some point in mythology, I think Baal and Yahweh got into conflict, and Asherah took Baal's side, alienating Yahweh, who then refused her. But, that's just my theory.

In the ancient world most gods would have a local manifestation, usually because a local temple was dedicated to the god. By saying "Yahweh of Samaria" the author is calling a blessing from the temple of Yahweh in Samaria, specifically, and mayhaps would bring an offering to that temple next time he was there in order to make good on his blessing.

Most religious individuals in modern society currently assume that their religion is correct, that all other religions on the Earth are wrong. Additionally, such individuals normally assume that all historical religions, that seem to have died out at some point during human history (based on archeological evidence of the past religion existing, yet not existing today), were simply bogus religions, and have always been totally bogus religions. However, if ancient religions and deity figures (such as the ones believed in by the ancient Greeks, or the Egyptians, or the Norse/Norwegian/Scandinavian people, or the ancient Mesopotamians, etc.) were totally bogus, then why are there Pyramids in Egypt, and why are there other archeological artifacts such as cuneiform tablets describing the various deities of historical religions? What causes an ancient religion to die out over time, and for new religion(s) to appear, based around seemingly new deity figure(s)? One potential explanation is that "the Gods and Goddesses" of the Earth are part of some kind of race of intelligent beings, that reside in some alternate place, ex: "heaven" (or the 4th dimension, or something). If such a place exists, and the race of beings do not have a totally stable society, then over time it is conceptually possible that there can be power struggles in "heaven", including war and overthrow of leaders/kings/rulers/governments in their society. This concept does seem to be supported by the Christian Holy Bible, which claims in Revelation 12:7 that there was "war in heaven". The concept that war can exist in heaven at all, means that there is a society of beings in heaven, and they do not always agree with each other, such that there are occasional power struggles and war in their society. If one assumes that there is a 4th dimensional race of beings, and that their society is not fully stable, such that there are occasional power struggles and subsequently resulting overthrows of political power in their society, this could help to explain why there appears to be so many Earth religions that have died out in history (where both the religions and their associated God/Goddess deity figure(s) have also seemingly died out along with the religions). In theory, anytime that there is a successful overthrow of power in this 4th dimensional society, whoever the new winner(s) are, they tend to set up one or more new religions on the Earth, based around them, rather than the former God and/or Goddess figures that ended up losing (and presumably either ending up dead, or imprisoned, or disempowered and made to live in exile [possibly on the Earth, as implied what happened to Satan and his supporters in Revelation 12:9], or something else). Asherah is an interesting case, as it seems that she may have been a well esteemed Goddess at some point, but somewhere along the way, she seems to have fallen out of favor and become hated, presumably by whatever new God figure that apparently gained power. None of the existing Earth religions seem to be very clear about explaining the full nature of "heaven society" and how it works. All of them are vague at best, although both Christianity and some other past religions (like the religion of the ancient Greeks) do at least partially describe various power struggles between the various God and/or Goddess figures.

Most High had nothing to do with your claimed idol which is because we have evidence of the Israelites at Lachish when they have an Egypio-Nubian admixture clear ancient evidence of the Exodus effects in the bronze age. So you have some explaining to do trying to conclude that a Iron Age culture would have had Origins with the same idol that was found 1st in the Neolithic with GHASSULAINS worshipping idols before any Israelites errored to worship it as that's why Jerusalem fell as said 1 Kings 11:33 Because that they have forsaken me, and have worshipped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the children of Ammon, and have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in my eyes, and to keep my statutes and my judgments, as did David his father. So pay attention "Later, such “sacred trees” were common in the Levant and the Near East. In the Bible and Ugaritic texts, “Ashera”, often symbolized by a tree, was the goddess representing fertility, endowing life and prosperity to her followers. Sometimes, she is also referred as the wife of “El” and her cult was mentioned several times in the Old Testament. The Bible also disapprovingly references asherim, cult objects relating to Cannanite worship. In the Mishna, redacted in the early 3rd century C.E, she is represented as a living tree, tree stump, or a wooden sculpture. The Ashera in Eilat was dated by radiocarbon analysis to 4540 B.C.E. Easy, she was more important than he was. You don't build monuments and profess mass marketed hatred for people or things not popular with the people. Nero, Trump, Asherah all more popular with the people than with the elitists. So to prevent that one must vilify on mass scale
@Eden_jasper
@Eden_jasper 21 күн бұрын
These are not nearly equal or logical comparisons. Nero was an emperor and didn’t require any kind of popularity, and his hatred was pretty much only from the peoplegroups he attacked (early Christians and colonized regions), Asherah is historically significant but fictional, she represents early stages of Judean religious traditions and was purged as part of the reforms of King Josiah. Lastly, Trump is a real person and his sweeping tax cuts for the rich and the media circus he creates make him very popular with the media and the elite as well as those he claims to politically align with. The media only reports such negativity for him because by fanning the flames from both ends, they all get to make money whether that media outlet is fueling hatred or support. Trump is popular with “little people”, but the he is much more popular with American capitalists who want his reduced regulations to wholesale rape and pillage earth with less red tape

It is possible that such idolatry existed some time, when people worshipped something as God's wife, but it proves nothing. It clearly contradicts the biblical idea of one God.
