Ashes of Creation Dungeons (Everything We Know)

Dungeons in Ashes of Creation are going to be INSANE. There is so much to look forward to in Alpha 2 and I'm particularly excited to see the friction in open world dungeons.
I love the idea that you have to work with and around other groups and how that could lead to potential (wanted or unwanted) PvP. Some people may not like this but I've always believed that player friction in MMOs results in amazing gameplay for everyone involved.
It requires us to make decisions about our next steps and really think through the short-term and long-term results. Risk/reward is what MMOs are all about and Ashes if making sure that all of your decisions carry weight and forces you to think through everything you do.

First of all, great content, great video, keep up the great work. Steven has said that dungeons will change with story arcs, also that Dungeons change with time. At night a passage may open, in winter snow may block a corridor. As the Story Arcs evolve, so too will the dungeons, as the stars move across the skybox the dungeons will change, perhaps corruption will fill a corridor and make it temporarily impassable. Think of the dungeon as a spider web of corridors, some open or close at night, some open or close with seasons, some open or close as surrounding nodes level (or delevel) and as the story arc progresses. Imagine a Dungeon you enter one week, has a different layout the next week when you go back to visit it thinking you know what to expect. Imagine a Dungeon on one server, having the same dungeon on your sever, but the dungeon, the mobs, the layout, is all completely different, because on your Server the nodes are different level and the story arc has progressed along a different path. I would guess there to be only 1 Dungeon per 5 nodes. The level and progression of these nodes determining the entrances, the layout, the mobs and the depth of the dungeon. Sure, that's only 17 Dungeons in 85 nodes, but you're not counting the castle nodes, so were at bout 20 Dungeons tbh. Now if there's 30 people per level and these dungeons have 5 levels each, that's a dungeon capacity of around 3k concurrent players. if 1/3rd of the Server can be running dungeons, I'd assume that's more than enough. You don't need a ton of dungeons, if every one of them is constantly changing ;) Looking forward to seeing more of your content. Pen.

Thanks Pen! I'm super pumped about how story arcs will develop and feed into changing the world. I love how it is going to keep all the content in the world fresh, dungeons especially. We'll see how many dungeons there will be, it's really tough to speculate at this point but maybe when Alpha 2 comes out, they will set some expectations on what there is in the world in A2 vs. what they expect to have on launch. I 100% agree that with the dungeons changing through story arcs that we won't need too many dungeons. I personally love exploring and it's my favorite part of MMOs. I think that's why I haven't really been drawn to an MMO for a long time because most of them don't feel like this unique world that is full of mystery.

To prevent zerging world bosses just scale them based on players hitting them or in the area. And not 1:1, scale boss stats exponentially or scale frequency of AOE attacks. The main downside to open world dungeons is it encourages larger guilds to camp them.

You cant really. Dungeons and really the entire AoC world are PvX battlegrounds. If players are in the same zone/dungeon as you, they are likely to be much the same level, have the same party size, and be expecting you. There aren't going to be a lot of gankers or carebears.

Non combatants attacking corrupted should make them combatants. It is dumb that corrupted individuals get debuffs for defending themselves in this scenario

Remember when everyone was 100% sure the game was a scam to just grab money and it would never release. Now it's so far into development I hope we can be sure we get to play in this fantastic system.

I'm sure we will get to play it. For 6 months below it tanks and shutdown. Just like every other MMO that began on Kickstarter and was in development for a decade.

Dudes not a dev so he wouldn't know? But alpha 2 this year if it's on schedule. Release is probably another 5 years away based on my experience with tech, MMOs, and what I've seen shown.

they need to add a mythic+ dungeon system, dont know why more mmos dont just copy that awesome system

The only reason you have "Mythic+" Is because they made the base dungeons in wow boring, soloable, and shallow. I'd rather Ashes just makes THE BASE DUNGEON hard, and either a player can do it, or they can't. No more solo content, no more shitty weak enemies. Playing classic wow the dungeons needed you to be careful even in a full group and even at low levels. Then I play cataclysm and you can solo or 2 man them, then I go to retail and it basically brain rot easy. We don't need Mythic anything. We just need the base version to be HARD and engaging and not cater to the low IQ idiots.
