Mel Jones is joined by Nasser Hussain and Dinesh Karthik as they discuss the fourth day of the five Ashes Test between England and Australia. Stuart Broad's guard of honour in his final ever match was a major talking point as he hit his final ball for six, while Australia made a strong start to their chase of 384, reaching 135-0 before rain brought about an early end to play.

I think Australia's 1st innings is proving itself to be smart given the context of a 5 match series. They could have turned over the strike more but soaking up the extra 40odd overs is showing in the performances of English seamers & Woods apparent injury

The whole narrative around this series has been framed from an Englush perspective. DK saying Broad not getting Warmer was "anti-climactic". I think Warner hitting a century in a chase of 380 is very "Climactic" but you'd have to see the game from a non english perspective to see that.

It'll be 2-1 I think. 2-2 would've been fair... BUT... is there any such thing as fair in cricket? Is it fair that Australia has cricket weather 9 months of the year to England's 3 months. Is it fair that England uses (normally) a moving ball? The result is the result, but it's been way closer than I thought it would. I thiught the Aussies would DOMINATE the English.

@@thiru_asc1 I always thought in a sporting competition between 2 sides, or 2 people in an individual sport the best usually wins? Maybe I am wrong. No one should lose a test series at home. And England have managed to do it for the fist time in 21 years. They had to win the third test as they were soundly beaten in the first 2.

Warners angry reaction at getting out in a similar way in the 1st innings, it was a warning sign for England. As the ashes has gone the australian's top order was going to eventually get it right. Dave has now faced alot of balls from each of the pace bowlers and now thats only benefiting him. I agree it is still England's test match to lose BUT .... Warner at the last chance saloon, thats exactly where he wants to be mentally to score runs.

Broad retired prematurely. It should rather have been Anderson's farewell Ashes. Anderson was rested at Headingley and ECB should have given him an offer to retire respectfully in the 4th Test at his home ground in Manchester. Anderson's replacement (Tongue or Robinson) would certainly have taken more wickets in the 5th Ashes test which England must win to level the series. Broad is fit and still performing well. So he could have retired at next Ashes in England in 3years' time. ECB is not proactive on Anderson-Broad issue and it should be held responsible if England could not win Oval test and lose home Ashes series after 22years.

Agreed, broad is certainly bowling well & good enough to play on, the next ashes is 2 years away, he could've played after 2 years as well provided rest & recovery, but jimmy was not in his best rhythm throughout this series. But now he's decided to continue for a while & let's hope he gets his rhythm back, or else josh tongue can come in.

Well played england, 2-2 overall, but easily could've won the series..3-2 or even 4-1, think of stoke's drop of lyon at edgbaston & the rain interruption at Manchester, could've should've, but its fair to say England were the better team throughout this series.

The same was said about Mpumulelo "Pommie" Mbangwa when he began his commentary career over 20 years ago. Pommie does commentary all over the world, including in the IPL and does a brilliant job in the commentary box. Dinesh is a good cricketer who has been in and out of the Indian setting for a long time, since his under 19 days. I do not think one can be chosen to represent a billion people if they are not good enough. He was selected to play for India in the 2022 T20 world cup, and currently plays for RCB in the IPL. That should tell you something. This is Dinesh's second stint (I believe) with SKY. This broadcaster definitely believes in his abilities, so cut him some slack!
