Here are some questions for you: 1. How were you able to get cards to stand by themselves without holding them in the video? Did you use stands for the physical cards, or were images of them put in the video through computer editing after you recorded it? (As an example, the "Summon Gilder" card is standing by itself on 24:18) 2. Is the type of editing that you did for this video (circles around key pictures, sections, etc.) going to continue in future tutorial videos? That's the first time I noticed all of these special effects, and I hope that those effects continue in future videos. 3. For the Illusion Magic's Dice Power, can a wolf be spent to downgrade an opponent's single power side dice 2 levels, or do you have to downgrade 2 different dice? Also, can you still use a Illusion Magic Dice Power if your opponent only have 1 dice on its power or class side left in his active pool (and would that dice downgrade 1 or 2 levels in that case)? I'm getting confused since the wording doesn't mention if a single dice can be targeted twice, or it must be 2 completely different dice (and the keyword "different" isn't in the sentence, too.) 4. Is the old tutorial for "Ashes: Rise Of The Phoenixborn" from 5 years ago going to be left on this channel, or are you deleting it since this new version is coming out too (and to make sure viewers won't get confused about the 2 versions on your channel and think the older tutorial video is the one with the rules that should follow with Ashes Reborn)? 5. Is the lantern with a candle lighting on the back table a new addition to the Watch It Played set , and is it a new décor item we can expect to continue to see in the future? (It might have been in past videos, but I just noticed it in this video for the first time.)
@WatchItPlayed3 жыл бұрын
1) Those are the physical cards. Do you really want to know all the secrets of how it's done? Isn't it more fun to wonder? :) 2) Only in some cases. It's a lot of extra work, and while I find it helpful in a video where there are a lot of smaller details on cards that I want to point out (I also did this in my Guild Ball series), I actually prefer for the video to be more organic and natural - the way a real person would teach you the game - and less "special effect-sy. It's an aesthetic/feel that I think is important for what I'm trying to create. 3) With the Illusion dice (and all other effects), it will help to take the wording quite literally. In that case it says "lower TWO dice", so that means you couldn't lower 1 dice 2 times, because then you wouldn't be lowering TWO dice. That's not to say that there might not be wording inconsistencies in other places, but I think following that general rule will help. Also, although I do my very best to answer all rules questions, I avoid individual card effects (it's just more than I can handle across all the videos I do, and comments I have to respond to). Here's my quick answer on this one though. The general answer is you resolve effects as fully as you can and ignore things you can't. So if the opponent only had 1 die left, I'd say you lower it by 1, and then, since there is no other die to lower - the effect stops there. That's not an official answer though. For an official answer, that's best for PHG or maybe the BoardGameGeek forums. 4) Good question, but I haven't decided yet. There is a related game play series, and I'm not sure I'm ready to remove that part of the Watch It Played history from the channel... and the rules video supports the way that game play was played. I might instead just have to put a note in the description of the video - pin a comment, etc. 5) It has been in recent ones, but as for whether it's staying or not, let's find out together! I know I didn't answer all of your questions fully, but I hope that was helpful overall!
@ashes-live3 жыл бұрын
For your question about Illusion dice, Rodney is correct that you do exactly what the card says as fully as possible, and ignore the rest. You can find the rules for resolving effects on p. 14 of the Reborn rulebook, and p. 17 specifies what to do when something affects multiple elements at the same time. The technical timing of this effect is that you choose two dice to roll down, then roll the first down, then roll the second down. If your opponent only has a single die, you can still roll it down but you'll only roll it down a single level (because choosing the dice to affect happens as a chunk, not after you've already rolled it once).

@TheAlmightyGameGenie3 жыл бұрын
Just a heads up, if you do end up getting expansions down the road, two deluxe expansions (Law of Lions and Song of Soaksend) add 2 new dice types and are needed to play expansions using those dice types. This won't affect you if you're starting with just the core, but the only expansions you can get without needing to get atleast one of these deluxe expansions are Children of Blackcloud, Frostdale Giants, Duchess of Deception, and Roaring Rose. All the others use one or both of the deluxe expansion dice types. Happy gaming!

The new Ashes Reborn ruleset was designed in conjunction with the redesigns of many older cards. @@Muhd_Akmal Your first advice was to buy the Reborn core set ($50 MSRP), but that's more expensive than getting the Upgrade Kit ($30) and you'll get less value overall since you already own a 1.0 core. At least if you buy the Upgrade Kit you'll have a bunch of new cards to experiment with *and* you'll have duplicates later for further deckbuilding once you buy Reborn expansions, not to mention you pay less money overall. The new core set really only makes sense for people who are completely new to the game and don't own any previous product.

I’d go with the upgrade kit and then just buy the new packs as they are released.

You didn’t mention how to play Strike between rounds.

I quite LITERALLY laughed out loud at that one. Well done :)

This game seems complex. I’m sure it gets good after a couple of plays.

Yes, I think you might find (especially given your prior experience with games), that once you started playing, things would click pretty quickly. The player references, and the icons/text on the cards guides a lot of the process, which is great.

Not to be complaining, but were people clambering for a second edition?
@Muhd_Akmal3 жыл бұрын
Yes fans of the game even made their own fanmade expansions for the game!
@jeremydelaporte37703 жыл бұрын
I don't know if they were "clambering", but the entire project was only revived because enough players committed to buying the minimal amount of product for PHG to be able to cover development and production costs. So there are at least enough people who wanted to revive the game to justify making it again, and potentially growing beyond the original.

Brings back dark memories of my addiction to buying MtG cards. I get afraid when I see card games that have that sort of theme, I spent a lot of money and have almost 5,000 Mtg cards. I went through the 12 steps of MtG Anonymous and I wouldn’t want to go to the dark again...LOL.

I had that MtG addiction too Frank! I appreciate games like this that just give you all the cards in a set, rather than making you hunt.
