Hi ninja waffle. Your obviously an expert and I look out for your uploads that lead the way. Are you really a ninja? Or are you just waffling? There are so many armchair ninja that it is easy to be confused about who is good and who is armchair ninja. regards Graeme

If they only have a tee shirt on; as in many hot countries, then grab with one hand the collar to the arm seam in one grab. The other hand grabs the wrist or just above the elbow. The alternative grab to a tee shirt grab is the back of the neck... Stretchy clothing is harder than a tee shirt for controlling a resistant aggressor. We dont usually have this problem as judo people are nice

A firmly planted foot indicates a person on balance. The leg is swept in Osotogari by taking the person off balance, and then sweeping the leg out from under them. The sweep is so strong if your body is correctly placed, that it wouldn't really matter if they were partly on balance, as it would still sweep through their calf and displace their leg. Balance breaking makes it more efficient / easier. True hiza guruma's wheel action around the fulcrum of the knee More ashiwaza than other category

Yes thanks for that observation. Next time I do this video will think more about the text siting. Not a pro at youtube... but getting better. Looked at it, and I can still see the feet in almost all techniques. This really isn't a individual how to type teaching video, more a throw recognition video.

Very impressive action. Your foot sweeps were amazing. Every time you engaged, you'd position yourself differently & down he'd go. How much confidence this must give you. Not to mention stress relief & exercise. Question, aren't you supposed to yell when throwing? Seems like it's missing. Either way, bowing to you both for this.

Those formed of judo incredible amazing and unique and very impressive and powerful I still wish I could have had been doing this in karate it could have helped but I still think it is a powerful form of judo judo and karate are different but they're all the same but their own right both forms of martial arts are impressive and incredible and unique in their own unique way and Right style I still wish I could go back to those days when I ever started taking karate I could have been doing this as well it's all about improvements to make it work 🥋👊💪😉👍👊🥋

@PsychosocialGR True; still feels like a sweep to me, with a committed drop. The kata version is a yoko sutemiwaza. The variation shown here is a sweep and yokogake name seems most appropriate to this waza.

Very nice videos but rushed so much to the point of losing educational value (if that was the intention). I still like it because it provides a nice overview. I used to rely very much on speed and even strength. My latest coach (67 yrs old, 8th dan) said if you think you know technique, try it slow. It was quite an eye opener :-)

In my opinion the Osotogari is as much a real sweep/reap action with the legs/body as the others...If the break balance forwards is light wrist action upwards, the receiver flies through the air effortlessly, because they resist backwards, and the attacker goes with it, in that direction. (Just like the video shows) The sweep is possibly more close to a vertical plane than a horizontal plane. True it is called a reap, which is still a vertical sweep.

A "real judoka, " might not walk away from a fight; in many circumstances I have had to intervene in fights by other people to prevent serious injury or worse to youth scrapping. In some cases a coward walks away. In some cases a good person walks away. A good man or woman will see sense in action, rather than talk and not be afraid to help others, when inaction would allow an injustice to continue. Drunk people can do stupid & dangerous things. Who better than someone trained to be gentle?

@mcgocken
@mcgocken 11 жыл бұрын
Nicely done. Only a big part of the techniques shown arent really sweeps. You cannot sweep a (frimly) planted foot, like in O Soto Gari, and you're not sweeping when you're blocking, like in Hiza Guruma.

Perhaps Osoto gari wasnt the best example :) By a 'planted' foot I mean that the foot is on the floor and there is more or less weight on it. Your point about proper kuzushi is ofcourse true, however I wanted to point out that with 'real' sweeps little force is needed, Real sweeps are for example De Ashi Barai, and Okuri Ashi Barai. OSotoGari is not called a Reap without a reason.I might be nitpicking over names, and Im sorry for that. I mean no disrespect to your technique.

probably not. most of the people i have trained with have no problem being thrown. Breakfalls are a important of judo training and good throws give you a chance to practice. But part of the reason I preach on breakfalls so much is that when i first started training breakfalls i was not tucking my chin like i should, my sensai told me and told me to tuck my chin, and i thought i was. Well finally he realize he would have to show me the hard way, so he threw me and i have tucked my chin ever since
