Efficient Judo your videos are instructional and comprehensive, my kids rely on your judo lessons to effectively train from home. Hopefully I can bring the kids to train with you one day in person.

When tori attacks with certain ashi-waza, such as Kouchi Gari, Sasae-Tsurikomi-Ashi, or Hiza Guruma, the sole of his foot makes contact with uke. Why is this foot orientation important - as opposed to using the top of his foot in dorsal flexion? TIMESTAMPS Kouchi Gari @ 0:30 , Sasae-Tsurikomi- Ashi @ 0:57, and Hiza Guruma @ 1:00
@EfficientJudo3 жыл бұрын
I'm struggling to understand how you would be able to use the top of your foot in dorsal flexion with techniques like Sasase or Hiza-guruma while being maintaining the correct body and leg positioning and movements? Judo is whole body movements, foot orientation is often determined by optimal leg / hip movement. I can see how a technique like kouchi could be performed that way in certain variations e.g. like the Lunging kouchi-gake demo we've shown - but with this style of attack, the leg / hip action is different from a classic kouchi-gari.

@@EfficientJudo Thank you for the response - I am struggling to understand too, but now I have a good idea of why my foot sweeps keep failing! :-)

Whats the difference between o guruma and harai goshi
@EfficientJudo3 жыл бұрын
O-guruma is a wheeling motion over the leg, Harai-goshi is a hip throw where you throw with the hip and the leg is used to sweep the opponent. Compare how the outstretched leg behaves in each throw, and how tori's hips are used, you'll see it's very different.

Is he holding his gi so his body won't hit the ground so hard?
@EfficientJudo4 жыл бұрын
You always want to keep hold of the gi so that you maintain control of your opponent to make sure the land flat on their back and to keep control as you continue into groundwork.

I'm a barely 5'5 female, i cant do a pull up. I strongly encourage this move on arrogant racist pricks. Works like a charm every time. If you're in six inch heels and a dress; you can still pull it off. Just be prepared to go marvel hero stance after!
