I feel like people don't understand that friendships don't, can't, and ultimately shouldn't be the deciding factor for a position at a company. We'll probably never know for sure what the specifics are, but it seems like a simple matter of them not being able to fit in Ashley as a full time employee despite there being a shared sentiment of wanting to continue working there, and you can't just intern forever. If anything, I feel see it as him having wanted to stay on board but things not having worked out that way for whatever reason, hence not saying everything is sunshine but still parting amicably. Not sure how people would derive any maliciousness from the situation.
