on most movies and shows they have to lip sync so that the quality of the sound is a lot better than if they were to sing it live, and it definitely doesn't mean that the people can't sing. In Rent (the movie version) everyone is lip syncing, but all of them did their own singing, and we all know they're good live too because most were part of the original cast on broadway
