DIY - How to Make Sage & Lavender Smudge Sticks

In this video, I will show you how to bundle sage and lavender smudge sticks.
You will need cotton string (I said thread; it's a string) and heavy-duty scissors or pruning shears.

You can fold in the top so that there's not a lot of trimming.

I picked my sage leaves, then fell asleep, next few days I was sick - too sick to make bundles, & then when I was ok again & went back to make my sage bundles, some of sage leaves dried up curled & went a bit yellow or brown. Can I still use them? It’s my first time using sage like this & making smudge sticks.

I know that need to put the sage or any herb that is drying in the dark so they won’t change so much in color

Does it matter what type of Sage you use?

Yes. Please don't use White Sage unless you are Native American and have been trained in its tradition. It is sacred to them and is over-harvested because of the interest outside of the culture in smudging. You can use many other plants like other sages, rosemary, thyme, pine, cedar, and as she's shown, lavender. I'm about to make some rosemary and rue bundles as my ancestry is Lithuanian and rue is a very important herb for us. . There is a family story about how my mother and her neighbor were the only two children in the town to survuve among those who contracted Rheumatic Fever one winter due to traditional use of herbal infusions for bathing, drinking, and smudging (she described it a "being smoked like a pig on a spit"). Her aunt and the other girl's mother used traditional Lithuanian herbs. My mother wasn't supposed to survive past 16, yet she married, had children (against the doctor's advice), and lived to be 81. I believe in the medicinal and spiritual power of herbs! But we must always be respectful of other cultures.
