Fundamentally people who ask that question have a very limited comprehension of SA both as a space and as a place. As a space, Cape Town can be alienating to black people because the City has been curated for the experiences and interfaces of European Centric experiences modified in an African context. Yes it's beautiful, absolutely as a space but as a place it doesn't resonate with a progressive South African experience especially for the black South African experience. Johannesburg is the epicentre of the African experience, it is the richest City on the continent and it's province accounts for two thirds of the South African economy. Joburg is also progressive, inclusive and accommodating to all experiences and realities both black and White. Joburg is true and honest to the South African story. Wealthy blacks, Asians and Whites. The fastest growing black middle class in the world since 2000. The space is continuously being developed and everyone is doing business with everyone. Joburg is the authentic South African experience.

@luthovellem👏👏👏👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌 💯 I'm in Cape Town and grew up here, and this city sees and treats black people as subhumans. Cape Town is the Western agenda with corrupt officials hiding behind European investors. Corporate racism is thriving, and there're private companies here that are getting rid of black and brown people in management positions because here black and brown people can't get paid almost what white people get paid. I also can't wait to move to joburg, I don't know when but next year I'll start applying for school for my kids

Lol grossly exaggerated. 😅. Gauteng doesn't make 67% of SA's gdp (which you said two thirds.) It makes out 1 third of SA's gdp. Which means 33%. Exaggeration will definitely prove no point.

As a Joburger I enjoy CT for holiday, it is certainly beautiful, but also much more Eurocentric as others have mentioned. A black colleague of mine lived in CT for a few years but moved to Joburg and remarked on the wealth distribution in CT being predominantly white, whereas in Joburg it is normal to be black and wealthy in Joburg. She by far preferred Joburg as she felt more "at home". That’s not to say that CT is racist, it’s just not a very welcoming city people-wise, compared to many other cities in SA.

Lovell video, South Africa has 9 provinces/states and what's more fascinating is each province is so different from another boasting it beauty and uniqueness.. whilst Cape Town and Joburg are most popular, there are lots of other not so big cities but has much beauty( no doubts) comforts and has all the conveniences that you can find in big cities schools, health care, houses, malls, restaurants, those who are into nature/rural countryside outdoor activities. There's just a plethora of options one can think of. There are provinces that can be suitable for retirees as they offer super comfort, luxury but at a slower pace.. Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape and Kwazulu-Natal. Personally i like Durban more the weather is the best , laid back, best private schools in the country, always warmer (thanx to Indian Ocean)

Its funny how it narrows down to the people nucleated in these cities, Joburg people (Joburgers) perceive Cape Town to be small, cold and 'opressive' with a bit of closed off people, lack of opportunities and see Cape Townians as 'self centred' people who live in a bubble, Cape Town people (Cape Townians) perceive Joburg and fast paced and chaotic, crime ridden and 'boring' because of not being placed near a beach or a major tourist attraction, they also seem to see Joburgers as loud and flashy, these reasons fuel quite a bit of tension between opinionated people staying in these two cities, often time the negative comments for Cape Town is often from people in Joburg and vise versa

I've lived in both cities, the reason why CT is generally more expensive is due to the property market. Cape Town property is more expensive whether renting or buying and because property is probably our single biggest expense CT then becomes more expensive, on average. Also JHB has a greater variety ito of price, which makes JHB more accessible to lower income people. But other than that the cost of everyday things are the same in Durban, Cape Town or Durban.

I love Gauteng in General as a Pretorian and there shouldn't be rivalry between these two lovely cities because they both serve different purposes. CT is a city with better quality of life and has many natural beauty that you will marvel at hands down, however its not good for business especially when you want to establish yourself and you are looking for opportunities. More so when you want to build a career opportunities are more available in JHB. JHB is the melting pot of everything, if you work hard in creating connections and network i can guarantee you that you will have more opportunities coming your way, JHB people in general are so warm and welcoming, and they are so free to share information that will open opportunities with you. People in JHB are not much scarce mentality because of opportunities that surround them. One last thing is that you will never run out things to do even on the budget.

@isoboy1000
@isoboy1000 5 ай бұрын
@@pietervorster5690 Thats your opinion but is not true, Cape Town is becoming a digital nomad capital; which means the renting business will boom but it gentrifies the living spaces the locals used to enjoy and because the dollar tenants are coming to town most locals are going to be relegated to properties away from the tourists areas which will further cause the economic disparities we are already seeing in Cape Town. You can even check the exparts who are coming back to SA they are equally choosing Joburg because of how real estate is being overpriced, they realised that they don't have to live in Cape Town to enjoy it. Gauteng has most young population, Schools, tertiary institutions, corporate businesses and upward mobility in Joburg is more faster in Joburg than in Cape Town. Those are ingredients that Cape Town lacks but yes quality of life is better in Cape Town but younger generation choose to make money then retire in WC. My conclusion is, Gauteng in general will never run out of new generation of younger people seeking opportunities yearly and to add on that it's not only a certain colour of people who are making it here but all people of all colour, i can't say the same about Western Cape in general. We need that melting pot as a nation to succeed.

Cape town is a marvel of a City having the indian Ocean to your left and the Atlantic to your right, also features the most south western point in the continent of Africa, the cape of good hope it's also rich in history and was ranked the 2nd most beautiful city in the world after NYC it was previously No.1

As a South African, I love the beautiful scenery of Cape Town and the world class restaurants and other cultural places. But I don't care much about the people there. They are cold like the weather 😂... I'm kidding, they are not cold, they are just not as welcoming and as warm like Joburg, Durban, Mpumalanga and other provinces. Plus theres too many Europeans who are still racist and as a Joburger thats a big No, dont wanna end up fighting during a holiday trip.

@@AshleyinAfrikaShout out from Durban. Have you learned any South African languages? I think it helps block out the negativity from The West since most of us can't understand them anyway. And our TV series are African centred anyway

Hello Ashley and nice comparisons between Johannesburg and Capetown and being l live in coastal city in the USA Capetown will be nice place first time to visit for coastal and nature but l read there is train to take to Johannesburg 😊but the high altitude l must take care like getting rest and drink water like high altitude Denver and Addis Ababa and being an older person is a factor for me. But still sounds like two awesome cities.

Just skipped car hijacking last week in Johannesburg, but my car didn’t come whole. I have been in Cape Town for over 25years, tried to relocate in Johannesburg, but I couldn’t take it and had drive back to the mother city just after a month of being in JHB.

She's black so black people are going to assume she's South African without even thinking because in general most SAns wouldn't think that a black person would leave USA for SA and there's very very few African Americans in SA. In terms of your question, she actually looks American.

I can't stand it when people say stuff like "You look South African" or "You look Tswana," Zulu, Xhosa, Tsonga and all that. It's not cool at all, i know you trying to be nice and complementary but there's just something weird about those phrases.

Im from Johannesburg but Cape town for me is good for holidays. I went to Cape Town in April for a Holiday, tge weather there is not for me, even Table Mountain is beautiful but at the same time not a fan of having such a big Mountain around me..i prefer a place where the sun can hit the whole city. CAPE TOWN the sun hit the other side of the city then later move to the other side because of the huge table Mountain also the city is slow

Been pondering my relocation more intensely since watching this video. Being a So Cal native who grew up on these beaches I simply cannot imagine living my life and not having instant access to the water. I’d be in Joberg feeling like something is truly missing from the core of my soul. It seems as if colonizers have constipated the most beautiful geographical location where my DNA ancestors derived and it may just be the time for the winds of change to begin to blow through like a colonic and flush out the old encrusted dried up fecal matter and the parasites it hosts so that the original purpose and plans can begin to flow again. Being a highly spiritual person and an entrepreneur, I see a problem and solutions. Capetown might just need some bold Cali girl energy to come shake shit up & get it poppin. Let me go head on and get my Cape for Capetown & turn things around. Every beginning has an end and every end has a new beginning.

The big three cities, Cape Town, Joburg and Durban are all very different. All have pros and cons. Joburg definately the most diverse, people from every province is here. Cape Town is mostly people from E Cape and W Cape, Durban mostly from Kzn. I like them all in their own way.

Cape Town is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world if not the most. Black peoples from all over Africa, white peoples from every corner of the world, coloureds, Indians, Chinese, Jews, Muslims, Christians, gays, Muslims, lesbians etc. Just because you come to a city and the majority is not black you find it shit

I'm from Limpopo and live in Johannesburg and have been to Cape Town. My opinion is the cities have diluted African cultures and first you pick it up in the various diluted languages. Try rural Limpopo i.e. Venda, Lebowa etc
