Used to leave for work at 4am a few years ago. This wasn't in the UK. Naturally, the streets were empty, but some traffic lights still worked (as in, they weren't on intermittent yellow). Twice I've seen drivers give in to the compulsion to have a little look, see no one is coming, and just go through the red. Both times a police car came out of nowhere, chasing after them. Running red lights is never a good idea. Even when making way for emergency vehicles, be extremely careful. Doing it cause you can't be bothered to stop? That is downright criminal.

Excellent use of the horn by Ashley! The police should have done a better job of checking around before going through the red light, as they were even more of a danger and reckless than the first car. To catch one illegal red light runner, don't go about risking other people's lives. A small child could have been crossing at the same time, and would not have been visible at all to the police car at the speed they went through.

Just be happy a red-light jumper was caught. Had the red-light jumper not jumped the red light the police wouldn't have had to do that manoeuvre in the first place. Additionally, police drivers (even "standard grade" drivers) are highly trained which is they're afforded the exemptions that they have. They drive at excess speed and breach red lights day in day out and are used to it. The joe public are not. The police driver would off assessed the crossing on approached and would of known that there was only one adult male crossing. The pedestrian noticed the police car prior to going through the crossing due to its blue lights and shortly after it’s siren. They're trained to a much better standard then your average road user. Do not use this as an excuse to bash the police.

Some blue light vehicles sirens are triggered by the horn, so if they want to change the tone, hit the horn, turn it off, double hit of the horn (or something like that), hence the horn use. @@davidacseager It should be but there are absolute minimums in UK Regulations, they are never allowed to be on for less than 3 seconds for stopping, and 2 seconds for setting off, however there is no fixed fomular for speed of road there bloody well should be, but there is not. it's recommended that on a 60MPH road the amber for stopping should be on for 5 seconds but again recommendation not regulation... If you do find an amber breaking the regulations report it to the council immediately as it is something they can be sued for should it cause an incident.

@@davidacseager possibly, although generally my speed issue isn't too bad, especially around junctions. I think it's the bite point where the lights start to change and deciding to keep moving and braking is where I need to work on. But, you've given me something to think about.

I see people jumping red lights almost EVERY TIME I get stuck at traffic lights, it's not just one car either, it's usually 2 or 3, it's become "the norm".

They were so desperate to overtake the learner car that they didn't care if it meant running a red light in front of the police...

What usually happens to the driver in this scenario? do they receive points? a warning?

been on the wrong end of a red light jumper, he had his kid in car too, he got his car turned inside out for his trouble ,bent the chassis and cracked the dashboard on my car , his drivers seat was shoved to passenger side, they was extremely lucky they got out uninjured,its not worth the consequences and the hassle that follows, stop for the red

Wow indeed. What did it even gain him? Nothing. And then seemed to have the audacity that the police car wasn't even wanting him.

Even if I hadn't seen the thumbnail for that video, the way that blue car pulled out from behind the police was absolutely foreshadowing nonsense ahead.

Good use of the horn to wake the pedestrian up.

It's quite alarming how many people do this in general, but the ones who do this directly in front of Police - they are very special drivers. These are the ones that when caught doing something stupid, usually turn up with some bald tyres, no insurance, MOT expired, or maybe even drugs in the vehicle - or all of the above. These are the drivers that seem to stick out like a sore thumb by their own stupidity. It's nice to see the Police around when this happens.

How oblivious can someone be to not only miss a red light that’s been on for ages, and a police car right there?

I agree the car should have been stopped however I can`t say i am impressed with the police car jumping the lights and putting people a risk in the process it`s a good job the pedestrian was alert. There is just too much of this police madness I am sure that they could had caught them with the number plate.

Learner driver 10/10 - slowed for the Red light and warned the pedestrian of the incoming police car.

Did your student beep the horn to warn that ped that was crossing or was that the police car that beeped? If it wsa your student then that was very well done and fast thinking by them. What a plonker in the blue focus. How can you not see a marked police car right there and it wasn't even like the red light was a close one, it was red for ages.

Seems like a good use of horn to me as from my perspective it is clear the pedestrian had stopped his scan of the road at the first stopped car and had not noticed the police vehicle. Had that not been the case I would have expected them to not have begun their attempt to cross as it looks to me like they most definitely saw the offence occur so they should have easily anticipated the police response if they were aware of their presence. I know encountering an almost identical scenario myself as a pedestrian but having noticed the police vehicle in the queue already I just held back and turned my attention to the police car anticipating they would likely move to intervene which they did. It is not exactly a difficult connection to make that police are likely to respond to when an offence is blatantly committed right in their face after all.

Totally fair use of the horn. To be honest i thought it was the police cars horn as he turned the sirens on. He didn't check that the crossing was clear before firing across it, well in my opinion alone they didnt.
@ibs50803 жыл бұрын
Like others, I was rather worried for the pedestrian. As for the guilty blue car, words fail me. What were they thinking, not only for blatantly running the red light in the first place but also for doing so right in front of a police car. Did they honestly think there would be no consequence? Plus they also seemed to take a long time to pull over. I would have loved to have heard the resulting conversation.
@RandemGamorUK3 жыл бұрын
I do wonder if they saw the red light, either way glad the cops went after them. The driver of that car could have ended up running that guy over on the crossing if it was a bit differently timed. - That said the cop should have also been more careful there as I feel if it wasn't for the cammer sounding his horn to alert the guy crossing then the cop could well have run him over.. \o>

Reminds of the time I was behind a police car at a busy roundabout. After a while he got impatient and got his blues going! Obviously other traffic stopped for him and off he went. He got round the roundabout and then turned his blues off again. Handy that! 🙄

I think he was distracted one way or another (hopefully not under the influence of anything), he left his right indicator on prior to running the red and obviously wasn't the brigtest spark when they were clearly trying to pull him over - moving over to lane 2 then turning left etc 🤦♂️

i think that was the problem.. the police. the blue car was mirror watching the cops and not the road and failed to see the lights, i dont think it was deliberate.
