Your side-note about family-channel youtubers going on tour with small children reminded me of that: in 1763, Wolfgang Mozart's parents took him and his similarly talented older-sister, Maria Anna, on a tour around Europe when they were 7 and 11 for 3 years. The kids had gained some notoriety the year before when they played for an empress in Vienna, and their parents we cashing in on the attention. Just a historical reminder that parents have been going on tour to capitalize on their children's fame for centuries. *[I'm typing this only a minute into the video so as not to forget to post it]*

Simplynailogical talked about these tours on her podcast because she was constantly asked to do them. She said she always turned them down because she had nothing to offer an audience on a stage beyond the little one hour show things she did at vidcon, so it wouldn’t make sense. And every time, these companies always told her it doesn’t matter, because kids will pay for it anyway. I wish more influencers were just smart, good hearted people like her 😕

I just wanna say I'm so glad that we're finally recognizing how the tana situation was a lot more complicated than just "idubbz uses racial slur to own dumb youtube female" bc there's so many parts of that whole thing that just seem wild nowadays. Like, why did we all just let a bunch of white influencers lead the discussion on use of racial slurs like they had any semblance of authority on it? And why did the internet as a whole seem to think hypocrisy was a mistake that somehow excused any and all retaliation (up to and including trying to end her whole ass career)?? And, i get youtube was up in its anti-femoid bag back then, but people forget that less than two years before the idubbz incident, another female youtuber, Christina Grimmie was literally shot and killed at a meet and greet, but everyone treated tana's apparent anxiety around the situation as completely unfounded. Not saying her reaction was totally warranted or that she didn't have her own clown moments too, but that public reaction and subsequent discourse was the whole ass circus.

50:53 Immigration lawyer here. I used to do a lot of entertainment visas, and I’m chiming in because you’re right, they make it complicated on purpose. ESTA isn’t a visa. It’s a substitute for a tourist visa available to nationals from countries that have specific agreements with the US. Getting paid in any way by any entity in any location while working in the US requires an employment-based visa. Any unauthorized work can get your ESTA revoked and future immigration benefits denied. There used to be an exception to this, called the “showcase exception.” This allowed bands to perform at SXSW for official SXSW events. Problem is, it doesn’t make financial sense to come to the US to do just one show. Look up the band Soviet Soviet. They were detained and sent right back to Italy because CBP found evidence that they were going to play unofficial events.

The reason I like watching Ashley Norton is because I feel like I'm getting the point of view of someone who's a normal person, while everyone else on youtube is trying too hard to be an absolute whacko.

i went to go see tana in 2017 when she did the “tana and friends tour” i was 11 or so at the time and i still have my video of when i met her 😭 it was pretty awkward and i spent $150 on that.

i for some reason or another missed every aspect of the peak vlog era despite being in the right age demographic for it! learning the tea starting in quarantine has been a wild ride for me haha. with that said, i am so unsurprised that the sleepver female answer to magcon had WAY more production effort put into it
@itsangeline Жыл бұрын
i was a legit CHILD when i was a magcon stan idk what i was doing gushing over vine boys and to hear that the original lineup only existed as long as it did is surprising lmao. i was also a lights out tour girlie (it was a dark time) for a little while so i can concur that it’s the next generation’s magcon. i didn’t know the logistics behind each organizations but i do remember when magcon first fell apart and bart being corrupt. i also didn’t know the details about caleb omg

I have held this in for years and now I can mention it lol: James Charles was supposed to come to my hometown during his tour-which is an odd choice because my town is mid-sized, 3 hours outside LA, and Republican. There was a giant billboard right outside my dad’s office window with James Charles’ face on it for weeks and everyone was joking about him coming to visit. And then it was CANCELLED. It was both relieving to everyone he wasn’t coming cause people found him annoying and saddening that we’d missed out on this very surreal experience
@saf21276 ай бұрын
That is, indeed, absurd. I wonder if your town had a demographic mix where they figured there would be a lot of James Charles fans (teenage girls) with middle/upper class parents who could hypothetically afford tickets.

This video is good because I don't recall ever hearing about most of these people who were apparently the most popular youtubers in the world at the time (i was even in their initial target demographic at the time) and it scares me but I'm so captivated by the history I can't stop watching

I’ve seen Dan and Phil’s two tours, and most recently I saw Dan’s solo tour We’re All Doomed. It was so good. It had humour (was a comedy show), it had theatrics, fun audience interaction, impressive lighting and fun props and effects, and it had a meaningful conversation about mental health that really resonated with me. It’s also been so nice seeing the videos of him meeting fans on tour. I wasn’t able to get a meet and greet, but you can tell in all the footage of him meeting fans that he really does care about his viewers. He almost seems as happy to meet the fans as they are to meet him. He’s been saying this is the happiest he’s ever been and I believe it when I look at him. I watched this video because a fellow Phannie on Twitter actually mentioned it lol. Good video. Seeing what other creators have done when given the opportunity to tour really makes me appreciate all the effort, creativity, and heart that Dan put in to his show. I’m going to subscribe, so I’m glad I saw you recommended and can’t wait to see more from you.

poor caleb, that actually makes me so sad and i don’t even know who he is. what a roller coaster of emotions, and the worst part is that because he’s banned from making money in the US for 10 years, he’ll probably never have another opportunity to do a different US tour :( truly a horrible situation for him, trent should be ashamed

Loved this video so much! Exactly my kind of history analysis! Although thing I was wondering about was the strange music at 33:56 & 50:53? It's v weird cos it covers up the sound of what you are saying, I'm not complaining, it's just a tiny thing, but interested if there is a reason

Rhett and Link's Tour of Mythicality was honestly awesome!! They had an existing huge and talented team so that kinda sets them apart from other KZbinr tours, but since they have a lot of music and entertainment in their background, it really felt like an amazing show that fit with the existing channel.

i went to the girls night in tour! i was in middle school (6th or 7th grade i think) and obsessed with all the girls involved. looking back it was definitely cringey and profiting off of my insecurities, but dammit i had a blast. i remember my mom was very against allowing me to go, she rightfully recognized that consuming this content made me feel bad about myself (why did i, a 13 year old, not look just like these women in their 20s!!! the pain!) but gave in because i was already lonely and sad enough, and this show brought me genuine joy. stupid and bad for my social development sure, but it made an otherwise very lonely 13 year old excited to choose an outfit i thought the girls would approve of
