people criticizing madison beer for saying her favorite book is Lolita even tho she herself was a girl being groomed and sexualized from the age of 13 feels......weird. like have we considered she maybe related to dolores in a way or are we just gonna assume the worst of her and also discredit this book that, while heavily portraying pedophilia, does not endorse it in any way and could resonate with a lot of young women who have been groomed by their own humberts

This section pissed me off SO much because they’re basically just getting mad at Madison for being beautiful. Like just Madison existing is apparently “setting unrealistic beauty standards”… so what, Madison should change her face and body to please them? Is that not the problem women are complaining about? If you’re not beautiful you need to change and if you’re too beautiful you need to change. I can’t say whether Madison has had plastic surgery or uses photoshop or not but- I’ve seen plenty of women in person who are utterly gorgeous and have amazing bodies, it’s absolutely possible she really looks like that. The problem is how much society values beauty and makes women that aren’t beautiful feel worthless. The problem is that some girls feel bad because they’re not in the top 10% of beauty, not that those beautiful women exist.

I think she was treated horribly by boys and men, but also by women and girls who should’ve stood by her more but couldn’t because of this inherent competitiveness and jealousy that can tinge our acceptance of beautiful and successful girls/women. she embodies the pitfalls of that kind of anti-feminism, because I think some of the intense attacks come from people who see her living this wattpad dream and want to take that from her or make that dream less appealing by ruining it for her… I haven’t watched the whole video yet, but I’m excited to. Also the whole nepotism angle is soooooo annoying because even if the rumors are true this is how so many artists lie or fudge things to seem like they are more home grown. The whole plastic surgery thing is actually really weird because if you look at it pictures of her when she’s not super glam she looks pretty similar to her old pictures. Her eyebrows look the same her nose was always small with a flat slope and she always had strong bone structure. Her lips are also a lot smaller without make up when she’s talking and stuff. The whole scandal is kind of weird because everybody got mad at her for lying but I don’t think she was.

Clarifying the alegriers drama (as someone who witnessed it real time): Ale was a magcon stan living in LA. She had constant run ins with the guys, not enough to be close or anything but they definitely remembered her from meeting so many times. Hated Madison for whatever reason (at the time she said Madison was rude to her friends). Ale had a fan meet up at the Grove - just a bunch of teens on twitter wanting to make friends. That same day, Madison was coincidentally also at the Grove meeting fans of her own. They told Madison that Ale (the girl who threatened her on Twitter) was there and Madison sought her out to confront her irl. Ale was caught off guard and didn't expect to fight at the Grove of all places, hence the awkwardness. They talked everything out on the spot and were fine after.

The adults who spread her photograph should be in jail for distributing & possession of child pornography that is also revenge porn. The amount of adults and teens who did this are sex offenders just because it’s online doesn’t excuse or make it not as bad. To add a little extra context to the monster high thing (as a 12 year old goth at the time) if you had a subscription to the magazine, the We Are Monster High song was set up as a contest. The magazine had the lyrics and you could send in a video of you singing it for a chance to do what Madison ended up doing. I don’t recall seeing the confirmation of the “winner”. Just monster high posting the music video with Madison. It made sense they went for someone who was already in the industry but I remember how unfair it felt at the time. So I think that’s why there were so many kids with the “it should have been me” mentality.

I even saw her Facebook ‘page’ where ‘she’ took photos holding a white piece of paper with my classmates’ name on them. Me being an idiot 13 year old kind of believed it and was amazed that some up and coming singer affiliated with Justin Bieber was dating some random schoolboy from one of the poorest parts of London lmao. There was even some beef between imaginary-Madison and a popular girl who was pissed that she slid into her boyfriend’s inbox. I don’t know how that entire situation fell apart but a few years later I heard that it was all fake and some girl from our school had made a fake Facebook page. It is absolutely hysterical to look back on that entire situation because everybody in my year group was convinced. I genuinely feel as though most of the intense hatred for Madison, especially from young girls, stems from jealousy and insecurity around physical appearance. I think because she was so young and went from being completely unknown to this huge up and coming celebrity overnight, a lot of people compared themselves to her as Ashley alluded to and wished that it was them getting discovered on youtube by Justin Bieber (even though that's not exactly how it happened). I feel like it just shows how much our obsession with beauty and celebrity, especially in regards to women, hurt everyone. I think it's difficult for people to see her as more than a conventionally attractive, thin white girl and believe that she too can have problems with body image, mental health, and in her personal life. i get the biggest ick when people disregard celebrities’ mental health by saying, “what do they have to be depressed about, they have it all”. well, YOU trying being under the public eye 24/7 and getting scrutinised for simply existing and see how that affects your mental health. yes they have it all, they have the resources to get better, seek help, but dealing with mental health is not as easy as it seems. just because someone has more than you doesn’t mean you get to disregard their struggles. empathy is not supposed to be selective, we should be kinder towards everyone. and criticising for a valid reason is completely different than hating someone for no reason. madison genuinely deserves an apology from everyone

You showed so much empathy for someone I didn't know anything about other than passing drama. I really hope the best for her and that the rest of the internet will apologize for how they treated her. So much internalized misogyny and misplaced feelings from young fans that was encouraged to harass her. And the disgusting way that men spoke about her just because she was a beautiful young woman and was just an object to them! My god i had enormous cringe from the older male news anchor towards the beginning who said she was a "gorgeous girl at 13", and couldn't imagine how other adult men were speaking about her publically. The Dobrik interview is another example of the absolute DISGUSTING things people have done to her. How horrifying as well that her parent was treating her like a small adult and wasnt protecting her. I mean expecially hearing at the end that she has struggled with BPD 😢 I really hope she has an amazing therapist that can help her through all of her trauma & insecurities from that. Gosh i could rant on and on!! TL;LR this is the era of not pinning women against each other (expecially in imaginary ways). Just because Madison is beautiful, doesnt mean she is dumb or deserving of any hate. She hasnt shown any actual problematic behaviors and is a good role model for young adults (or teens!). No more internalized misogyny or letting gross ass loser men go unchecked 👎👎
