Good Lord! This is the first time I ever felt sorry for Ike. Dang! I don't know what to make of it between Ike and Tina. I don't think he was as abusive as was claimed, but I also don't think she beat on him like that. Wow. All I know is that at the end I wanted to start crying. And with everything going on in the world, I'm emotional anyway. Wow! Great video, Ashley. Got me 'bout choked up for that man.

This was great and it makes sense. I feel bad for Ike and Tina. She was truly a woman scorned, I believe, and she ruined poor Ike. I do believe that she loved him and that love turned to hate when it wasn't returned. I believe he loved her, too---platonically and professionally. SMMFH. Great video.

I read that Tina said she didn't see the movie when it first came to the big screen. It wasn't until awhile later that she finally watched it and when she did she told the producer's of Disney that it was the furthest from the truth. Disney response was "They wouldn't believe the truth." If people really know anything about Hollywood biopics' they'll know that they're known for adding too and taking from. If I was Ike back then I would've sued Disney for defamation. Regardless if he signed the contract or not. They defamed his character and caused him to lose out on money!

Oftentimes the anger, addiction and destructive behaviors we see is pain that has been unvalidated, unanswered and unaccounted for.

Where are some people getting that this video is portraying Ike as a saint? I’m confused, no where did Ashley say Ike was a saint or a victim alone. He was an abuser and a victim at the same time, as was Tina. It seems like some people just can’t see Ike as a complex human rather than a deranged animal. Tina deserves all the compassion and criticism that she gets. And so does Ike. I think men aren’t given the same understanding as women, in my opinion. Great job as usual Ashley! ❤️

It's not that we see him as a saint. We are now seeing him in a totally different light. Yes he was an abuser, but me personally I need to know why. This was an eye opener. We have only seen the movie & it made him look horrible!
@ibrahimgalla Жыл бұрын
I don't think people see Ike as a saint. It's certainly not mentioned here in any of the comments. Rather, Ashley has shown people the other side of the picture/story which completes Tina's side. He is now seen for the human that he is. Talking about his childhood and life experience has given an insight to what has probably shaped his behaviour and why he did the things he did. Nobody is excusing or justifying them, but we now have a better view of what might have led to them. In Psychology, people's behaviour are consequences of earlier life experiences (most of the time). His basic xter might have been to be good as was seen in the numerous times he went out of his way to help people but that is not to say he did not abuse Tina himself.

Admitting to hitting someone in a MUTUALLY abusive & toxic relationship is admitting to YOUR part. People love playing the narrative of how a man should never hit a woman, regardless to whatever abuse that she causes... that's not how life goes. Tina had EVERY opportunity to leave Ike, just as Ike had the same instances to leave him. They BOTH chose to maintain that situation as long as they did.

Soooo Ike still doesn't get a pass because he treated Ann Thomas different and all the other concubines after well too... he picked on Tina because he knew she was indebted to him for her career. Also to add ... Yes the movie did take literary license but....... because people know that, many think that he was not abusive or minimally abusive. Actually, in reality, the violence was far far worse. He's given her black eyes. Broken her nose. Thrown scalding hot coffee in her face(Which her late son, Craig, witnessed.) He beat her with a shoe stretcher. He beat her with a coat hanger. He busted her lip on more than one occassion. He hit her with a boot. He also broke teeth. So, these weren't slaps, these were punches! Another bit of trivia, one of Ike's wives before Tina I think it was Lorraine, but dont quote me. Anyway, one day Ike was digging in his ear with a Bobby pin. And the wife was walking by and accidentally hit is arm. This caused him to jab the pin deep into his ear and it hit and ruptured his eardrum. Oh yeah...... AND Tina got pregnant in 1970. She said there was no way she could have another of that man's children so she terminated the pregnancy.

Right about the abuse. It's disheartening when people say relationships aren't all bad they just fight sometimes. Abuse is a no no. People should walk away the first time someone lays hands on them. DV is not ok. Sad example: I used to go to a small business owned by a couple that was together for over 30yrs. One day, the wife came in with both eyes swollen shut, cuts and bruises all over her face, and she was limping. She wore a scarf and sunglasses while working. (Her husband got angry and took his anger out on her) I asked her if she needed me to help her in any way. She shook her head no and put her head down in shame That was the last time I went in there.

I have LOVED both part 1 and 2!! So informative with information I had never heard…I also love that you gave so much humanity to Ike and his character because nobody is all bad or all good. Yours and husband’s impression of Ike and Tina was too good lol!! Just such good work on this, I started part one knowing I didn’t have time to finish it right then because I had so much to do…well I made time lol, made time for both parts back to back! ❤️

Disney owns Touchstone Pictures which releases "mature" movies like that one without the Disney name on it. So they own that division of the company that released What's Love but the same people who make the animated movies and live action family films are not making the movies under Touchstone too. It's all different production teams. These are how the big studios work, not all one person behind the reigns anymore. Yes executives greenlighting stuff but that's pretty much it

Their relationship was fraudulent and very toxic from the start; They cheated together and with each other while they were in relationships with other people. Can’t say I feel sorry for Tina and what she endured throughout her marriage to Ike. She slept with someones man and living in her house all at the same time. IRL that can get you hurt real bad. And Ike cheated with Tina and had babies on her with her coworkers, all in her face. They say how you get them is how you lose them

Tina is my girl and everything 💃🏾. I admire her wisdom and strength but this all makes sense now. Certain things weren't adding up and watching this confirms it. Tina pointed the bad finger at Ike the entire time and he pointed one back. I think both of them did they dirt and Tina is not 💯 percent innocent. I still love Tina but she needs to own up to her part too. She never explained her part🤷🏾♂️

My mom used to go to their concerts and yes there was some serious rumbling going on… seconds before going on stage like backstage fights….everyone does side with Tina but I believe she did some dirt in the name of love just to hold on to Ike … that’s why she was scorned… which is why I believe she moved overseas and became a citizen to forget about her past …and some of the things she maybe embarrassed about.

I was actually practicing with Ike Jr's band to be an Ikette back in 1997 or 1998 but there were things happening that made it where he couldn't book at the time. Audrey was a lovely, hard working woman and did emulate Tina and sang for another band called Black Angel. (Before she came I did backup for them.) I think all of our pinnacles pointed to aspire to be "another Tina," but really, she's in a stratosphere of her own. Which is fine - it gives us permission to find our own stratosphere🙏🏽💜✨✨

There's a story Charlie Wilson told in an interview about how he and Stevie Wonder recorded "I Ain't Gonna Stand For it" at Ike's studio but for some reason Stevie couldn't get the tapes back (Maybe payment for studio time) and they had to re-record the song and the one they re-recorded is the one that ended up on "Hotter Than July"

Ashley I almost cried when you told the part of Tina being in the closet on the floor in a fetal position and Ike picked her up and preceeded to hold her and tell her he was sorry. I was truly choked up. You are definitely correct when you say that no one knows the truth but them so I took my tears back...lol. I think this story was my favorite if them all. Oh and although I like Tina Turner, I do think that Chaka Khan can sing circles around Tina. That is just my personal opinion. Keep up the awesome work that you do.

First of all…LOVE LOVE LOVE this channel. Secondly, now everything makes sense. After the movie came out, I read a few articles where they interviewed Ike. I’ve seen some interviews of famous people who were around them, and they’re responses to their interactions with Ike and Tina were guarded. Then Miss Robbie has yet to fully tell her story as an Ikette. Also, the lyrics to WLGTDWI makes even more sense now.
@BrownSugarBaby1992 Жыл бұрын
Miss Robbie said this didn’t happen with IKe. She said both of them were toxic. Tina lied on this man and theres plenty of people that backed it up too. Judge Brown hates Tina because she said ugly things to black poor kids. Tina was also a pimp in TN black people knew Tina. The white side makes her seem like a victim. She was a terrible woman!

I mean………whenever I hear someone talk about Ike and Tina that actually knew the both of them they all say the same thing. “Yeah Ike was giving it to Tina but she was giving it back just as good. Tina was NO meek little lamb. She was just as bad.” The only people that fully demonize Ike and anglicize Tina are folks that weren’t there.
@wandac36762 жыл бұрын
This was A LOT! Boy oh boy...so much to unpack. I will say, at the end of the day, it's always people that were around a volatile couple that say they have nothing for the woman when they didn't do anything to speak up about the violence when the relationship was going on. That is so weird to me.

Your voice, emotion, hand gestures is the best of storytelling! Thank you for shedding light on the most likely reality of the relationship between Ike & Ann - thank you for all of the time you spend on the research & putting it all together - you never disappoint!! I can totally see Ike being the shy type of man you describe - you could always tell he was the quiet, intelligent type & I get why Tina was in love with him! And I get why she beat the sh*t outta him as there's nothing quite like the pain of unrequited love! and to have to feel it whilst seeing the one you love sharing himself w/all these other women! Whooosh!! Them is fightin' scenarios fo sho!! I know a lot about the entertainment industry - just as it has always been something I have paid attn to - like a lot of people - but I'd always be the one friends would ask questions about - what was the name of that song? or who was so & so married to? You get the idea. But I always learn at least one - usually several tho - new things when I watch your content!! 💫👌🌹🌺🌻
