I love Trader Joes flowers. Our TJ's donates their leftover bouquets to a local nursing home. One day I brought a friend to TJ's, who has some mobility problems. I was helping her shop, but then an employee stepped up and offered to assist her, allowing me to do my own shopping.. Before we left, the employee gifted Shirley with a bouquet of flowers! Thank you for this really good tutorial. I am now a subscriber (and sharing this).

WOW! Makes me tear up. What a sweet story! I hope your friend felt really special. Good for TJ's. I had 4 surgeries on my leg due to an ankle break & staph, and I was truly amazed how many very good ppl there are in the world; they went out of their way to help me, give tips & sometimes tell me their own story. That said, I can't imagine how hard it must be to have permanent mobility problems. I'll pray for her. ❤🙏

Pretty display. I tried this a couple months ago. It turned out well but it bothered me. I usually use flowers from my garden. Then the light bulb went off. I started thinking about the cost and carbon expended to bring flowers from columbia and just the blatant consumerism. Um, I'll stay with flowers from my own yard.

if you strip the leaves off the stems of your greens before placing them in the water, it helps to keep bacteria from forming in your water that then shortens the life of your flowers... beautiful arrangement!!!

While this was a great instructive video, please don’t encourage people to go to public spaces and randomly cut branches from bushes! I’ve seen beautiful old holly bushes destroyed by a woman repeatedly whacking branches for her personal use! She insisted that they were “public bushes” and she had every right to cut as much as she wanted:(

Using the pkg that sometimes comes w flowers, removing all leaves that would be under water, & changing water almost daily helps prolong their life. If flowers look the least bit wilted, I recut the stems bc it's the angular cut that really helps them drink the water - therefore, you can make the cuts close to the previous stems. By the time they look shorter, I just change to a smaller container.

You are giving the stems a fresh cut but there is no water in the vessel.... the ends will close up within 2 minutes and water can not be absorbed well after that, Fresh cut ends need to go straight into water. Keep your stems clean under the water. The arrangement will last much longer with these simple things. Have been a florist for more than 30 years. The basics are important.

I have always dreamed of learning the art of flower arranging but always figured it would be unobtainable until I either grew my own or had the time and money to invest in taking classes. This is so affordable and you make it seem so accessible and stress free! I’m definitely giving it a go! One question, you mentioned browning petals. Is there a reason not to just pluck them out of the flowers? Also your organic, free style is my favorite. He made the world a playground for us to enjoy and admire so celebrating it’s natural beauty through free, organic floral arrangements is so fun. I love Kiana Underwood of Tulipina in SF. Do you have any recommendations on where a non-florist could buy deep vases? The ones I bought from Michael’s are way too shallow.
