What is something social media would tell us is normal that you want to remind us (and yourself) ISN'T? 💫

Seems like big houses is one. The list is long and would love for others to share. Making parenting look easy…I don’t even have kids and I don’t believe that. Making a productive day appear like no glitches occur. I agree with hair. Everyday make up that looks like you are going to a special event.

You and Christopher have a home that you own that’s a big thing many people don’t have so, even those people who live unrealistic TikTok lives probably aren’t owning their homes

I think it's okay to own a house, but it's not realistic for many people. So, I need to remind myself often that renting is totally normal.

I’m trying to stop so I don’t watch a lot of my favourite channels anymore - I can’t keep up - but I don’t need to! So far in 2025 I have been very good at not shopping - in stores and online. My real influencers are my grandparents and my parents 🥰 They were incredible role models, so loving, naturally organized, very brave, and their lives still inspire me so much. My children and my true friends also inspire me in many ways. I just come to KZbin for fun and it always amazes me to see all these young people on social media who are convinced they've "invented" and "discovered" things... that already existed before long before they were born :)

This is a masterpiece- it’s not easy to keep a clean home - and not possible to match 99% of what is on social media. But if you aren’t buying the loads of junk influencers are pushing - you can achieve just about anything with a clean home. You won’t have clutter- you won’t have unnecessary debt and you will look pretty and feel good. ❤. The restock and makeup videos should never influence anyone. What we should be influenced to do - is wake up, take care of personal hygiene (appropriate for our planned day) tidy our homes- and get on with whatever we have to do. And take time to enjoy and care for what we have- which will free up our cluttered brains. ❤❤. Your home with the mugs in the sink and the baby proof coffee table is absolutely lovely.

This was so helpful and inspiring Ashylnne. My husband and I work full time (mostly) outside the home and we have 3 children (13, 9 and 2) with VERY different needs in this season and most days I feel exhausted and overwhelmed. I think social media can make it look like people have these perfect routines that keep everything flowing and organized and real life does not always go smoothly. Last week the toddler had croup and other family members had the flu and reality check... our Christmas trees are still up LOL! My goal now is to have them down by Valentine's Day... while it is stressing me out, we are all healthy again and still enjoying the colorful lights around our home (which has been nice) and they will get put away eventually. :) Again, thank you for this!!

What you mentioned with the jeans is really interesting. I think it’s just important to wear the jeans (if any, or other trousers, skirts, whatever works for you) that you feel most comfortable in. And also, the type and cut of jeans might depend on the body type, proportions etc. But most importantly, what you feels most comfortable wearing is usually most flattering, cause what you feel like, you emanate, most of the time.

If you live somewhere with good public transport you don't need a car at all, but realise that's not an option for everyone. We have a school aged child and still haven't bought one, and have never had one so don't have anything to miss. We're lucky we live a 10 minute walk to the supermarket and 15 minutes walk to the train to work. There's so many car adverts that come up, it's ridiculous! Thanks so much for this vid and keeping it real. Feel a lot better about our messy home! Social media is out of control! Over consumption is so bad for the planet 😔

Yes, thank you!! I loved this video! The haul videos and 2 hour + morning routines are some of the worst. I'll watch someone declutter their overflowing closet / closets, dressers, etc and then in the next video they're showing a clothing haul. WTF?!?! lol And who really has time for a 2 hour morning routine? I work from home, don't have to be up and working at a certain time and I don't even have time for that. There are definitely a few other things that bother me about what "influencers" are trying to pawn off as "normal" but I like to stay positive and ranting feels negative. I say wear what you want to wear, decorate how you want to decorate and do the hobbies that you enjoy. Live for yourself, not what's "on trend". Anyway, thank you for your honesty Ashlynne!! Have a great weekend! 💕✨

I love your beauty routine more than I enjoy watching beauty hauls with every cosmetics product every made (which usually goes to waste because if you have 10 of the same products it's almost impossible to use up even 20% before they expire). I think the 'influencer' culture is built on our perfectionism, even perfection in minimalism although it's a bit controversial. I'D LOVE to have two perfect skincare products that I use daily and don't even need drawers because they're on display where they're easy ot reach.The problem is that to find (or believe that we've found) those two products you 'have to' try hundreds of things that don't work that well. And it's a never-ending process, there's always something new that might work better, or your skin ages and requires different treatment. So I think the problem is our idea and aspiration of 'perfection' (to each their own) in any area (not just cosmetics), while in fact we'd better stop at and be happy with 'just fine'.

Thanks Ashlynne for the real ness! I suppose in general it’s the feeling of people having their lives together when in reality stuff can be a hot mess. I see people with their own homes, fulfilling careers, happy families etc, and it makes me feel like I’m failing somehow, so I put pressure on myself to be fitter, more put together, more organised, more productive, and it’s just not sustainable. Things aren’t easy at the moment and some days it’s just a relief to get through the day, so at the moment I’m just doing what I can. Here’s to living a realistic, genuine imperfect existence.

I've always liked your hair. You style it in such a cute way! Oh.. and I've found it's impossible to do everything perfectly. If I'm doing my hair, getting dressed, journaling, making my breakfast, I'm forgetting or don't have time to drink all the water, take my meds, exercise, or something else. I can only do so many "important" things in a day.

Thank you for this video so much! I feel like it is incredibly important to all of us to be reminded about how social media is impacting us and making us feel miserable for not having or achieving certain things. My experience is as follows: we all know it deep inside but we very often just get caught up in that vision of having a perfect life because everyone else seems to have it all together. But apart from influencers showing as a curated version of their lives there is also a case of globalization and perspective and we also seem to forget the cultural differences and accessibility of things everywhere around the world. Somebody like me might be watching us based influencers while coming from Eastern Europe and comparing myself and my life and my apartament to theirs just in general doesn"t make any sense but i still sometimes do it. Like for us it's normal for a family of 5 to live in a 50-60 square meters apartment with one bathroom, two tiny bedrooms and half a kitchen, we do not often own a dining table and the living room also serves a purpose of being the parents' bedroom. Now that i moved to western europe my friends and family also get infuenced about how i live and dress and all the things i have and they see it as something to look up to. But on the other hand they don't see behind the scenes as well. Some of the things i have are hand me downs, some are preowned, i do have a macbook but it's 11yrs old and i worked very hard to get it, i don't go out much or order takeouts to save money. An extremely organized and aesthetic apartment serves it purpose for me because i struggle with adhd, anxiety and depression episodes and it's much easier for me to funcion this way and pull myself out of it and have a clearer mind. But even though i seem to have my shit together mostly i am still a mess inside and even just being consistent with what helps me (like quite elaborate homemade meals every day) i still sometimes overdo it and end up with burnout. I am actually in it now and your video made me fell a bit better so thank you again!

This is a VERY good video that you did! Thank you for sharing with others that the internet is not real! I was born in 1984 and grew up before the internet and the smart phone came along and changed the world. I think back a lot about back then and really see how much less stress we had! The comparison game is to a WHOLE new level! And it's not good! It's awesome that you are not like everyone that has to get a bigger car/SUV when they are adding another kid! I drive a 19-year-old Camry and just don't get it while one would want to be strapped with a house payment size car/SUV payment every month!? Everything you said it straight on! I live frugal and minimal and have little to no wants. Makes life wonderful and less stress!

Thank you for this video on par with your usually inspiring and realistic content! For instance, I love that you keep in clips you've recorded even when Oliver is chatting in the background, it feels like something most content creators might edit out. Social media totally feels like such a prison and my experience on it gets worse as I get older, I'm just over it. The things I see on there barely make sense to me anymore. So grateful for every creator that I do follow who make beautiful and/or useful content and make community the focus of their work! (Also... what do you mean Oliver is crawling and sitting by himself?? Wasn't he born yesterday?!?)

To be honest I just don’t understand why people get influenced by influencers. I’ve always lived my life as I wanted and not being influenced by anyone. I do pick up an idea sometimes, like f.e. some trays in my fridge or some baskets to put stuff in, but that is only because I can’t oversee what is in the bottom of the fridge or just because I love certain kinds of baskets and not because someone else likes it. Only the bottom of my fridge has 2 trays that I can pull out to get to the food and the rest of the fridge is just loaded because I can oversee these shelves. I always had some cheap plastic containers with stuff in my cupboard and I just love those white rope baskets, so when I found them rather cheap I changed some of the containers by baskets. I still see those kind of baskets when I go shopping but I don’t need anymore so I don’t get them. And already from a young age I never cared about fashion or clothes, I just wear what I like until it’s completely worn down before I replace it with something new that I really like. And I wear the same things over and over again. I just don’t like to live in a showroom nor do I like to wear lots of makeup or different clothes.

Your house does look like it's been curated and although it is very nice, for many of us it may not be attainable. It's not a critisism, but worth mentioning in the video, especially as it falls into a category of unachievable/unrealistic lives on social media we see all the time.
@wilhelmina8843
@wilhelmina8843 Күн бұрын
My ordinary house probably looks curated too if someone were to stop by but it is totally attainable. It’s done by highly decluttering and doing five minute pickups/straighten up sessions about 2 times a day and cleaning up the kitchen as I cook (or right after). Highly decluttering and tidying up looks amazingly curated without trying to. And remember, she is of course going to pick up and put on makeup before she does a video. That’s exactly what I would do if I was going to have guests over - and that’s what we are, her guests. (Though my version of putting on makeup would be more like changing out of PJs and running a brush through my hair and brushing my teeth… but you get the point) And there is nothing wrong with having a curated home - curating isn’t a bad thing at all. Decluttering is totally a form of curating. Get rid of the things you don’t want/need so you can keep the things you do want.

Love this! I only decant if it is something I like to keep on the shelf plus in storage. I think of it like toilet paper. One on the roll and some stored. Otherwise no decanting for me, either. For jeans, I like to get something on trend, but pick a middle of the road pair that's not too extreme. They usually work longer that way.

Some that truly amaze me are the cost of products they’re hauling! For instance; I may like a shirt they’re un-boxing, so I’ll google it and when I see the price is $250. ( all their items are extremely extravagant) I’m like WHAT!!!!….I could nor would I ever spend that much on 1 item, I’m too cheap. lol

Love this! Watched it twice! I definitely feel the fine hair part.. I’ve always felt like I’m the only woman without voluminous locks. Lots of good reminders in this time when we all have windows into other people’s curated lives. Thanks!

I loved this video. I don’t post comments often, but this one truly deserves it. You made us see you and your life in such a different and realistic way-as if you're just as human as we are. You put your heart into it, and I bet all of us could see that ❤

I appreciate this topic so much. This year im trying to get a better handle on spending vs. Saving. I feel like I was falling into the consumer trap especially with clothes. My wakeup call came during my annual purge I donated 4 trashbags of clothes some still had tags on them or I realized I didn't really like the item. So now if I see an article of clothing I'll pop it into my cart and I make myself wait 5 days to see if I really want it. This has really decreased my spending. As for a clean home like you I try to keep a tidy room but I have spaces that seem to always be dumping grounds for things I need to tackle later 😂 I work full-time and I gotta rest at some point lol

Loved this video! A couple I follow is all about keeping up with the trendy stuff, and I’ll see her unbox SO many clothes and accessories and never see her wear them. She bought sunglasses on Amazon for a dupe for an expensive designer cuz she wanted to see if she liked if before buying the designer ones. To me, why is that needed? If you like the Amazon ones, why do you need to get the fancy ones cuz they are trendy? Don’t get my wrong, I love their vlogs but I def see them over consume a lot

Yes! Same here. Small house. Kids share room. One small room is a mix of music room/office room/toy storage. Both of us drive old paid off cars. It’s the way to go! Saves so much money

I saw a video much like this where the commentator referred to influencers' "cleantok" as "performative cleanliness", and that was a pretty good point! There's nothing wrong with tidying up, organizing the shelves, mopping the floors, scrubbing the toilet, etc - I mean, by all means, do it! It's hygienic! 😃 But it becomes a performance for the sake of being admired by strangers when your whole focus is to have a clean and tidy home. There's a saying that talks about how people would rather clean a messy home than clean up the mess inside of them, and I can relate to that. When past trauma resurfaces, I become a cleaning and tidying addict. Since organizing and cleaning experienced a boost during the pandemic, maybe it's just a symptom of the chaos we all feel inside? "The world is out of control, but at least I can control how my kitchen looks at all hours of the day" ?

Loved this video. It's great to have a reality check and hear your thoughts about the perfection presented on social media. For me at the moment it's seeing perfect gardens, I love gardening and have moved into a home that needs a garden overhaul. Your video reminded me that this will be a process to enjoy creating my garden and not to compare what I create with those perfect pictures I see on social media (and which may be AI!).

Well done, such a necessary reminder to detach from Social Media! Let us be honest: you must be putting so much effort in your "normal" videos! Because most of the time, your home looks pretty perfect! Thanks a lot for that. I take this video as a great motivation. PS: Oliver is sooo cute!

I've been watching your videos for a while now, but don't always comment. I really love this one. And as a wife and a mom of three working a full-time job, I can definitely relate to the struggles. This video is the main reason why I choose to not spend hours scrolling on social media. Thank you for putting this video out there, I'm sure a lot of people could benefit! 💜

Social media doesn’t show the sheer exhaustion parents often feel, chronic illnesses, bad days, bad weeks, bad years, and so on. It’s vanity of vanity, so many people trying to outdo one another…and so what if they outdo someone else. Big whoop. Who cares???? I want the self-satisfaction of outdoing how I did yesterday, and trying to just celebrate my small wins. Life is a series of ups and downs.
