It's BS. They are not only selling controllers to OEM etc. But also to end users. And everybody can get access to BACdoor if they pay the crazy money ASI is asking... At least make a "lite" version enabling end users to change basic settings. How hard would that be....? F#@! all this proprietary BS!

That is the route that VESC took as well as a few others. The ASI model was just to further lockdown and restrict. I think over the next few years it will become increasingly clear which model will drive the most success going forwards.

I just bought the asi bac 2000 controller from cyc branch. I'm planning to use it on my QS hub motor and not on a cyc mid drive. Did I just made a bad decision of buying the asi bac 2000? Will it work on my QS hub motor, i suppose i would still need the bacDoor app to adjust parameters, correct??. Cyc said that they will give me credentials to login on bacDoor app. You got me a bit worried now.

I have no idea how or why. As a dealer I am not permitted to share my logon details. They do track them. Not sure how cyc are doing things. It will run the qs fine tho.

Thanks Cap for the video explaining this. Although I love the performance I'm getting, I was more than a little miffed by the fact that I was hamstrung by BAC Door 's secretive processes. If I give you $500 for a controller, I feel I should damn well be able to do with it as I see fit. For clarification I'm using the ASI BAC 855 on my BBSHD. My bike will hit 50mph on a downhill easily, and I still have LOTS of throttle left. I generally cruise at 40-45 and I only go around 7 miles to and from work using a Litespeed 72 volt 19ah battery. The trip usually uses 5-7 volts, I have the field weakening turned down to 30%

I definitely prefer open source technology. But its no different to many other things. If you bought a car from a dealer you would not be accessing the nitty gritty of the engine management chips. Not without spending lots of extra cash. But it should work in the situation you bought it for.

Thanks for clearing that up! Now I understand. I was wondering why the speedometer on my CYC display never really works, nor does the adjustments on the app. I mean the bike goes and is pretty reliable but I’m kind of stuck with the settings. I’m excited for the nxt it would be great to have a plug and play system, dumb it down for regular folks like me. I’m good with the mechanical aspects of mounting the motor etc but the electronics and computer side is a bit overwhelming.

Am I missing something here? They should have 10 different settings at a push of a button. Change from 48, 52,and 72 with a few options each for speed and torque per voltage and notify customer of what each of the 9 or 10 settings permits ahead of time.

I have a the unlocked evaluation kit with the BAC 8000 running at up to 25kw. Your totally right. Its far more in-depth than any other software I have used. The company selling the ASI is suppose to create software for the end user and limit what they can access. ASI wants to supply the controllers and do not want to supply tech support other than to the companies selling the ASI controllers. Allen at ERT has recieved a bit of a bad rap due to many of the people not understanding the above. He has a screen that interfaces with the controller that allows you to adjust a limited amount of parameters. He's a currently working on v2 of the software. I plan on purchasing the v2 when it's available. Allen was a great help with initially helping me set up my current bike. He shared a config file which I loaded on to my bike, and then tweaked it a little.

Thanks for the explanation. It's a shame that 1.5 years later the controller still has issues. I'm on my second controller and had to push my bike home twice yesterday. The CYC stealth is not working out as I had hoped. Where is all of the advertized torque? My old Cyclone, although big and clumsy has way more torque and a simple app. I just maxxed everything and hit save. Perfect.👍👍

Why not to write a mobile app that does what NXT displays does? It would be much easier to set the parameters over BT though. Btw. Are you still working on the display? I didn’t see any new firmware releases.

I have moved on from the NXT. I can't work with the main guy anymore. Not going to air laundry tho. We are working on a number of things to make it easier to change settings etc. Hopefully more soon. If the NXT firmware is updated then the links and files are usually on bit bucket.

Hi, ASI gave me Bacdoor access for a few weeks due to the distributer of my controller and harness do not exist for tuning any more. Are you able to remote tune my product with my harness or is it the same shit everyone else has been saying “their tune does not work with my display” “we can sell you a harness and display” “so we can tune your device”

CYC just released an app on android that allows some programming of the ASI. I do not have any ASI hardware direct from CYC though so I have not tried it with any of my controllers. Most of the information I have gleaned from my own dealings with the respective companies and other people that have dealt with both ASI and CYC. CYC are very communicative via the Facebook group. The only way it would work would be if access was locked to a particular controller perhaps via the serial number. Or a more limited access level login. But thats not an option I don't think.

@@HighVoltageKits yes, cause it's DIY at the end of the day. Bikes are either assembled by a store or by individuals so that's should be no problem at all ... and they will sell more. Don't think the safety issue is a real issue. People are more and more informed ... They should also provide default configuration for BBSHD or CYC... the IP stuff behind all that justification is too much.

What you suggest is well and good. But its not the business model they seem to want. They want high volume oem customers not diy guys to a large extent. They definitely don't want customers of oem companies taking their time. There would need to be big changes at ASI to do this. I doubt that they are making them.

Is it possible to program the throttle and perform a hall test on ASI controller without the back door software. I am currently working on my second bike that's using an ASI controller and my seller was one of the many people who lost their login

The end user should at least have the access to change the battery voltage, wheel size and limit the power level. It is ok for you to have the BacDoor login though? Are you an oem or an end user who paid for the controller and wants to set it up as best he can?

I got into the asi platform by pure fluke. My stock one crapped out and I thought why not try a plug and play kit. The rest is history. I actually managed to get my login to bacdoor from asi. I just called up and asked with respect and politeness. That and my British accent usually opens doors in Canada lol. I did however buy an evaluation kit so I guess in the end I paid for my access. There is no way I would buy another ASI at anything other than OEM. They have a business model and anguish usually follows most single user attempts. I use the setup and parameters developed by Alan Hu at ERT. I have learned loads but its amazingly hard to dial in for certain motors. I guess to answer your question... absolutely 💯 those things should be possible. If you buy an evaluation kit tho. Its up to you with engineering support to achieve this. Most buy from a 3rd party kit supplier whos job it is to ensure you can change the things like voltage and wheel size etc. Hope this explains things. Good question! Cheers 🍻

@@HighVoltageKits I guess you were a bit miffed that anyone could get the latest 855 with BacDoor a lot cheaper than you paid for the evaluation kit. Forgive me, but you come across very smug in your video now that Cyc customers have had their login blocked (mission accomplished?). So it appears it does not matter if you are an end user as long as you pay the extra, and buy the evaluation kit (available on the website to the end user for $700) that includes login details. By the way, you can change the settings on a washing machine, not a very good comparison/analogy.

I'm sorry you miss the point about the washing machine tho. Of course you can change the settings. What world would it be if you bought a washer and then had to configure it to work using the factories OEM code platform. It would be ridiculous. Which is my point with CYC. The ASI model has CYC supplying a product that customers can use in a simple reliable way. Currently they are struggling with this and that struggle has led to this situation with the logon. I did not create it but I get asked often about it so I explained it. I suggest making less guesses maybe. You don't know me and have no right to judge me. I have helped alot of people with CYC motors. I bought two Gen 1 motors from CYC and I continue to work with the system and help where possible. Mission accomplished? Are you trying to provoke me or something. I don't have the time or energy to play games. If you want my advice or help with the X1 just ask.

@@HighVoltageKits In your video you suggest that ASI only give login access to the controller and help documentation to oem, but I do not believe this is true because if you pay enough for the controller and kit off them directly then they will sell to anyone, and give anyone login access. You yourself are proof of this as you are not an oem, and nobody special (apart from the English accent, lol) yet you got access and login because you paid for it. Why do you suppose that other end users should not have access to the login to be able to settings such as battery voltage etc, but yourself, also being just another end user, should have. Should ASI revoke your user access because you are not an OEM, or are you special. My point is, it seems not to be if you are an end user, an OEM, a re-seller etc, but about if you pay enough for the login details. Thanks for the offer, but Cyc have excellent customer service. Getting back to the ASI user access, the pc BacDoor program doesnt need a login. You need a usb serial cable and it is also advised to use a usb isolator. More details and info on the ASI can be found on the enless-sphere forums.

ASI give access to people who they THINK will become OEM customers. If you buy one they assume that this is what you want. ASI sell an evaluation kit for a seemingly expensive price which only a small part of that just over 100 dollars is the actual OEM cost of the ASI controller. So CYC as an OEM customer would pay about 100 US per unit of BAC855. So if you buy from CYC you are paying about $200 or whatever it is they are charging. But that does not get you access to bacdoor. The fact that ASI have obviously not given CYC a new logon or permission to hand it out to users should confirm that I am correct. The give away should be in the term evaluation. If you buy direct from ASI you are buying the resources needed to evaluate the use and operation of their controller with your motor. This is an industrial level process. Just because you can buy an evaluation kit and ASI will sell one does not mean you should. ASI will assume that you are building a replicable product and not in general a one off machine. I know of five or more people who have bought evaluation kits and tried to use them with motors for one off ebike builds and failed even with the paid for engineering time from ASI. CYC are struggling so that should tell you everything you need to know about who should be using bacdoor and who should not. I could be OEM. But I just recognized that my skills are in design and ergonomics and 3D printing. Onscreen graphics. User guides. Stuff like that. So I never followed through with the OEM part of buying an evaluation kit. If you buy off CYC you have no rights to BacDoor on the phone app. If they could lock down the PC app as well then I bet they would. CYC are apparently working on their own app that will do the things you mention like change the watts and amps, select a battery. Ideally this would be ready to go before they start selling the motor with the 855 to customers. But its not CYCs fault that the issues with the stock controller required a complete redesign. But creating an app like that is hard work. I know this becuase I spent the last year working with Alan Hu of ERT to develop the NXT display that will do the things you mention. I have a BAC2000 sat here for my Gen 1 CYC that I can change the Watts and amps via a touch screen interface on my bike. My BBSHD uses the ASI via the same touch screen interface. I don't have to use bacdoor. I would rather not as it is one of the worst apps I have even had to use. I can't wait to see the app CYC make because I know what is required to get the ASI running well. I do concur that CYCs customer service is 1st rate. Without it they would have been dead an buried long long ago. In mmy first video review of the CYC Gen 1 I said that the best part of the Motor package was their willingness to engage and listen with the ebike community. Have a good week!

The bac2000 runs the cyc at close to its full potential. The nukular 12fet is also looking a good option. Both would need the right frame and drive train... IE strong 💪

ASI are shooting themselves in the foot here. You have a company like CYC and maybe others who depend on ASI to function. If ASI are now locking their business and frustrating their 3rd party customers then CYC will eventually jump ship and ASI could go from a small company to no company at all. I bought a BAC855 ASI kit setup for a BBSHD and it is fantastic, but has no way to change the settings even though I paid over £500 for it. Only reason why I got it was because it was plug and play. If another company used a different controller that was plug and play but also allowed customisation then ASI would have never got my money. Open source is the way to go, or at the very least sell a key and a licence agreement saying ASI is not responsible for any damage caused by the controller. Otherwise someone else will sink them.

I think ASI have many business partners that use their controllers successfully for many projects. CYC are just one single OEM customer. ASI do not need CYC to be successful. They are a bigger company by some margin already. CYC are not operating within ASI chosen model. Its frustrating but that is their choice. You are correct tho. There are other options. The nukular if you can lay your hands on one is an option. Cheers
