why don't they just lay down pipes under the asphalt and apply heat.Same concept they use for homes to heat the floors so your not walking on cold floors.I get it maybe a bit pricey but its cost alot less than a plane crashing and people dying.

Because plows and salt are several orders of magnitude cheaper. A home is 1000-4000 square feet, well insulated and is in need of heat even without the floor so there is relatively little energy waste. A smallish international airport runway is 8500*150=1.3million square feet and not only uninsulated below but directly exposed to convective and radiative losses from above, then you add in evaporative losses and the heat capacity of H2O. Your talking about enough energy for 50,000 homes for a single runway.(most airports have more than one) The mechanical stress and strength needed is also an issue commercial runway concrete is around 2 feet thick and reinforced, continuously supported by a bed of several feet of well packed crushed rock. A home floor has such low loading that one inch of plywood spanning framing member on 1.5 to 4 foot centers is plenty.
