"Fogerty is quoted as saying the song was actually written for his then three-year-old son, Josh. He’s also said that the reference to the parade passing by the door was inspired by the Dr. Seuss story, "And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street."

From San Francisco, ccr for their love of country blues and elvis type of hillbilly rock they loved growing up. Creedence- like a religious reverence, Clearwater- describes the type of music, and revival- means they are bringing it back. Thanks for the reactions.

I believe they are from San Francisco, CA. Other reactors have said that this was based on the imagination of the song writer's 3 year old son. He had just gotten off the road, and his son was telling him about all his (imaginary) friends in the back yard. As only a 3 year old can.

Asia & BJ, their "Proud Mary" and "I Heard It Thru The Grapevine"(11 min cover) are next for you!! edit - back then songs had to be short(about 3 mins or less) or they wouldn't get played on the radio! ☹

@@charleserickson8119 Agree !!! The statement is 100% true of AM radio in the 60's but then came FM Radio in the 70's and they started playing all the LONG songs....somewhat as a rebellious act towards AM radio's attitude. We're no longer comparing apples to apples.

The song's lyrics, filled with colorful, dream-like imagery, lead some to believe that it is about drugs. According to the drug theory, the "flying spoon" was a reference to a cocaine or heroin spoon, and the crazy animal images were an acid trip. Fogerty, however, has stated in interviews that the song was actually written for his then three-year-old son, Josh. Fogerty has also said that the reference to a parade passing by was inspired by the Dr. Seuss book And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street.
