Marshall Tucker is criminally underrated. They are definitely right up there with The Allman Brothers, Lynard Skynard, and CCR for being one of the best that Southern Rock had to offer.

100% right! WE wore them out in the late 70s/80s ----- With our cheap Beer beer, bandanas, and rowdy softball game attempts...beer runs and vibin' to the tunes always seemed to distract us Lol

Toy Caldwell, lead singer and lead guitar, was only in his mid twenties when this became a hit. He was a two tour Marine Corps vet of the Vietnam conflict. Two Purple Hearts. Looked like a baby face but had that voice built in the jungles. He suffered from war related mental health issues and died pretty young of drug and alcoholism addictions. Watch this live. You’ll see the age in his eyes and playing style belying his kid looks

Toy lost both his younger brothers within a month of each other to car accidents and as PT L said he was also a United States Marine Corps Vietnam War combat vet (WIA). That's him singing with incredible soul and thumbpicking that beautiful Gibson Les Paul of his. Thank you for everything brother. Rest easy.

A little over a decade ago I was in the back room of a bar in Oregon, playing poker with a few dozen other folks. This song came on the jukebox, and a large man in a camouflage vest and a red Budweiser hat exclaimed in a loud voice, "Man, if you don't like Marshall Tucker, you can get the fuck out of here!" And we all silently nodded, because yeah, if you don't like Marshall Tucker, you CAN get the fuck out of here.

The MTB is from Spartenburg SC, a short jaunt down I85 from my hometown, so as a kid growing up in the 70's I grew up on their music. Saw them live in late 80's and had backstage passes to meet the band after the show. Typical rural S.C. boys, down to earth, friendly and humble.

This is southern rock at it's finest. The flute solo at the beginning & end is great especially in the live version. Love their music from the 70's. Some of their other big hits were "Fire on the Mountain" & "Heard It in a Love Song". Southern rock fiddler Charlie Daniels did quite a few collaborations with them.

The live version has an extra verse and a beautiful guitar rift from Toy Caldwell. It was the first appearance on the Grand Old Opry by a southern rock group. It's my favorite version to listen to even though, because it's an old black and white recording with a 1 second miss in it, it is absolutely beautiful. Even if you don't react to, you owe it to yourself to view it.

This is the Grand Opera House in Macon, Ga, not the Grand Old Opry. The night the version you refer to, Wet Willie and the Allman Brothers played as well. The individual appearing at the beginning and clapping is Wet Willie's lead singer, Jimmy Hall.

Hi guys. I don't care what kind of music someone likes. Rock, Folk, Blues, Country, Jazz, R&B, Soul, Rockabilly, Great guitar. If you like any or all of those, you are going to find something to love about Southern Rock. It truly is as American as anything else. For another great tune, check out little Feat's Dixie Chicken. There are a lot of video versions of it on YT, and they range from about 5 minutes up to about 12 minutes or more.

The more genres in a song the more I like it. This song means everything to me.I went through the worst time of my life. Separation. Divorce. Smear campaign. Mostly missing my kids half the week. Destroyed me I say now God had to build me up from scratch. I was a shell. So I’d given up everything that reminded me of my life prior. Music was the last thing to go. And the first thing I brought back. I was finally ready after 5-6 months to go out again socially. Went out with my best friend since high school who was the only one there for me and her husband. I automatically went to the jukebox though I hadn’t listened to music for months. Played this song. A table next to us started singing along (way younger than us). We started singing along. Something in my soul changed that day. I was out of the darkness and into the light. Don’t know how to describe it. God smiling down on me I guess. God showing me it was gonna be okay. And I was.

My second favorite Southern Rock band after The Allman Brothers Band. Where as The Allman Brothers Band were more blues influenced, The Marshall Tucker Band were more on the country side, but like all Southern Rock bands, they could cover all genres, and mash them into one. "Can't You See" is a true classic, and it's writer, vocalist and lead guitarist Toy Caldwell is a true legend - and his unique style of playing guitar was always phenomenal to watch as his thumb picking style was incredibly fast,he was known as the best. Another great Marshall Tucker Band track to listen to,and one that highlights regular vocalist Doug Greys unreal style, and Toy Caldwells great guitar picking is "Asking Too Much Of You" it's worth a look and listen.
