That may have been the most honest reaction I've ever seen from anyone - When Asia heard the refrain about abuse, specifically when the singer's character started fighting back. BJ is still grooving and Asia is just staring open-mouthed at the screen. Exactly what the band was going for. Excellent reaction video.

Yeah, the harsh realities of this world; can only provide one with the evidence that true horror is nothing more than what the most unimaginably depraved & vile aspects(that are all too often on full display, in those most unfortunate individuals amongst us) of the human experience truly consists of. It isn't even remotely pretty, it isn't something which any of us wish to have to consider or ponder; yet it is, and most depressingly so, simply what these unlucky wretched souls have experienced throughout the entirety of the lives they have been given... Personally, I just cannot fathom how such a despairing level of abject torment & utter hopelessness would feel... but it certainly doesn't look like it is a psychological scaring which could ever be easily overcome; or even a thing that could be long tolerated before it would induce a real psychotic break in it's victim... which will lead to them unleashing all of that built-up psychological torment & emotional pain upon any & all of the innocent people whom were unlucky enough to have been within their striking distance at that specific horrifically momentous moment of their breaking! Thus the unknown factors behind many a mass shooting, or insane "hostage taker & police standoff" type of incident which we have all seen are clearly just occurring more & more often over these most recent few decades... damn. There are so very many parents whom should never have become parents... totally self-serving, with wholly selfish motivations; and an uncaring, unloving, unconcerned, unthinking, un-empathetic, unfeeling, & ultimately just inherently irredeemably irresponsible to the point of being completely indifferent, neglectful, and unfathomably cruelly abusive... there are monsters raising innocents... and it can absolutely turn those poor innocents into future monsters themselves... Unfortunately, this type of cyclical abuse pattern in the familial settings is just an inevitable form of societal dysfunction; & it is one which has always been endemic to humanity's experiences, since the very beginnings of our tribal & societal formations... it is one of the harsh realities of existence; and it is just another form of darwinian filtering; necessary for separating out the weak "chaff" from those possessing the requisite strength of character... those innate genetic traits which grant them the necessary strength of will, & emotional endurance, which shall enable them to have a better chance at perseverance over such truly daunting & terribly adverse familial conditions... All of it can be such depressingly sad facts of this life for so many; & yet, just objectively speaking, it is clearly juat a simple fact of life for some experiencing this world's more harsh conditions... it is that way for all too many of those folks we all share this world with everyday y'all... so maybe take this into consideration the next time you see someone out there whom seems on the verge of snapping... it can absolutely all suddenly turn into a true horror show; and this kind of sudden transformation of your world into something like that out of horror movie ~ an utter slaughterhouse of carnage, leaving only a bloody hellscapes of death & destruction... that is actually something which can occur in the blink of an eye.

@@Eowyn187 《\|//|\`°•.•°}{♧¿?¡i!~[]◇¤₩x×X》 So sorry my man... I just couldn't be bothered with actually having to exert the effort required to attempt & read your entire comment... TL:DR & all that jazz, ya know... Ha. Heh, Jesus, WTAF man? Are you actually being for real my man!?? I mean true enough, this entire illogical idiocy of how folks today are so wilfully ignorant, it would probably be absolutely hilarious to me too... That is, if it weren't so very pathetic & embarrassing. The vast majority of fools in this day & age are just objectively such pitifully incapable, weak-willed, & irredeemably ignorant fools; that they are now little more than easy prey for the corrupted elites... The general public in America has become so hopelessly lazy, thin skinned, & misinformed as for them to have literally become nothing more than pansy-ass, weak-willed fools; in other words they've all become clueless marks & easy pickings. A majority of Americans today are so complacent & compliant that they have effectively been rendered into unquestioning sheep; proletarian scum whom are basically just absolutely & utterly worthless... On top of all that, they are also the biggest damned pansy-ass, psychologically fragile, & self-entitled bratty twats I have ever even imagined possible. A total lack of Intellectual curiosity, & a mentality of utter laziness are precisely some of the reasons why, just objectively speaking, a vast majority of my fellow American citizens are uninformed, uneducated, & wholly unenlightened... So, pretty much just abject imbeciles, there is simply no widespread understanding or knowledge of the basics: scientific methodology, mathematical theory, proper english & classical literature, world history & historical accounts, artistic design, or even current geopolitical events... What is there of any real substance in any of the shallow meaningless "academic teachings" which are being passed off as an actual higher learning education; what does it even take to be seen as being "knowledgeable" these days man. Very little. Today's population tend to know nothing precisely because they are generally so spoiled that they cannot ever be bothered to even actually read anything which has more than three sentences to it... This shit is all just so pitifully sad. Hell man, "pathetic losers" doesn't even come close to adequately describing just how low so damned much of this country's populace has truly allowed themselves to sink: Weak-willed fools, ignorantly small-minded, arrogantly misinformed, stubbornly misguided, wilfully ignorant... Basically, that would accurately describe around 80% of my fellow Americans currently; that is, insofar as I've bothered to discern anything about this matter anyway... This conclusion is clearly only veing based upon my own anecdotal observations though... So here's to hoping that I am just terribly mistaken about all of this! So I guess y'all can be "clever"... and reply with that sarcastically derivative [TL:DR] type of bullshit all ya want... for, honestly, that type of stupidity shall only make it all that much easier for those in power to readily identify the truly irrelevant individuals amongst the overall general population. So, y'all have fun... being nothing.

@@RaduRadonys It DOES matter when it causes people to have misconceptions about the artist or the artist's family. I'll be the first to agree that any song (like any other work of art) is not limited to only one point of view or interpretation (that's the reason why art is so beautiful and diverse). If I hear a song or look at a painting or read a novel that makes me feel one way or another, I also know that those feelings are my own and I don't try to project them onto others. In this case the band even explained the metaphorical intention behind the lyrics. Does that mean people can't find a personal meaning to the song? Of course they can. Just remember that your personal interpretation is just that....personal.

People are gonna take it how it makes them feel but Taylor is right, David said the same thing in an interview about what the song was about but wasnt surprised people would interpret it different from the original reasoning for the song. Now songs like "Daddy" from Korn have no way of being mistaken what they're about.

David Draiman has the perfect voice for metal! And having this song as my intro to the band 🔥🔥🔥 Their catalog is full of BANGERS like this! The lyrical content about the family 'violence' is in reference to 'society' and the system being the abusive 'mommy'. It's not his mother. It's the 'machine' and how it takes advantage of the little people.

This song fully describes my childhood and how I was raised by women. My own mother neglected and abandoned me at a young age. My step mother abused me physically and mentally for over 10 years before I finally retaliated. Didn't kill her but did hit her back. I've been messed up my whole life and feel relieved a band put into words something I never could. Child abuse is real people and didn't want my kids to go through same as me but they did as well by their own mother. I was able to save them from enduring as long as I did but regret they went through it at all

Abuse warps you. As someone that has lived through abuse this song when first heard I reacted like most folk, like you folik did. I was like "this is awesome" until the part speaking about abuse came in and I realized that, to me, it's a glimpse into those of us that have been abused. The first part is what I show everyone else, the "I'm fine, I'm normal" face and the lyrics discussing abuse represent the anger, pain and fear I never showed anyone else.

there´s also "that" song with Korn that does actually speak of actual abuse from a first person perspective. That is a song that hits hard. Take that mommy part of this song and multiply and you get the idea. Do it if you like, but be aware, it´s a real song about real abuse.

It´s also so interesting watching people slowly get that "mommy, don´t hit me.." they´re digging the music, grow hesitant and then WTF??

I love y'alls authentic reaction to the realization of exactly what that song was about when y'all heard the words that gave it away. But what I think y'all missed was the fact that it WAS actually a GIFT that was given to him. Think about this: he was abused in ways that are indescribable. However, the gift that was given to him is what he turned the abuse into. He took all that abuse, all that hate, all that violence, and turned it into something that millions could enjoy as a positive attribute in their lives. A relatable circumstance, a common ground, a reason to gather and celebrate together in love and harmony. He didn't allow that demon to bring him down. Instead, he used it to lift others up. And that is The Sickness.

Someone has probably already commented on this but at their concerts David Draiman and Disturbed speak about drug addiction, depression, and where to get help. Their song Hold On To The Memories is beautiful and I always cry when I listen to it. Also their cover of Bridge Over Troubled Waters is amazing. Paul Simon loved their version.

The gift is the rage he feels after years of abuse. The demon is the part of him that is starting to fight back, which she opened up by her abuse. Its a very powerful song, thanks for the reaction. I love this album, it was my introduction to Disturbed.

Yeah that middle part about the mom is very rarely played and never on the radio. I was a little shocked yall were playing that version. I gotta tell yall its been so much fun watching people who heard "Sound of Silence" then we slid The Sickness in there and these people in these streets not even knowing what to do. Like when they heard "Snuff" then Slipknots other music. 🤭🤭

yeah, it's sad. I remember the first time i ever bought this album and was playing the cd in my car and heard that part for the first time. I was like "why arent they playing this on the radio when they have the song on?" Honestly it makes sense nowadays but when i bought the album back over a decade ago i never understood why it wasn't being played. It's such a powerful messge
