Cool fact. Bette Davis herself loved this song, in large part to the fact that her grandson all of a sudden thought of grandma as being cool and relevant. Bette wrote Kim and the actual composer of the song to tell them how much she loved it. They then exchanged gifts as the song went on to win awards, etc.

Bette Davis starred in movies from the 1930's-1980's. She was not to be trifled with and she went toe to toe with powerful movie executives to get the roles she wanted. Like her contemporary, Katherine Hepburn, she portrayed strong, unconventional female characters. Great reaction!

Ok I googled: Kim didn’t write it but made it famous. “…..written back in 1974 by Donna Weiss and Jackie DeShannon. “They got the idea for the tune after seeing Bette perform in the movie Now Voyager. it was later revived in 1981 by Kim Carnes and spent nine weeks at no1 in the charts and won Grammy Awards for Song of the Year and Record of the Year. At the time Bette was 73 years old and wrote letters to Kim, Donna and Jackie to thank them for making her “a part of modern times.”

It is pronounced Carns- I know you guys wouldn't know that - she has a great voice - You need to watch some of Bette Davis' movies. One of her most famous lines is "Fasten your seat belts, it's going to be bumpy night" from All About Eve. My favourite movie of hers is Now Voyager.

Betty Davis was known for her eyes, they could burn a hole through you. She was one hell of an actress. I was a young kid in the early 60's. If you like really dark creepy movies watch What ever happened to Baby Jane. Also that co-starred Joan Crawford. I kid you not its really creepy.

I've always been a sucker for the raspy voice of Kim Carnes (pronounced as one syllable - "carns"). Like Stevie Nicks and Bonnie Tyler, I have always been a swooned by those sultry raspy sound. She does a duet with Kenny Rogers which is one of my favorites by Kenny "Don't Fall In Love With a Dreamer" which is so powerful and moving songs. And Asia nailed it - yes her eyes were seductive. Hence the spy comment. That look that if you look into them she can get away with whatever she wanted to.

This is a song about a beautiful woman who is basically a maneater. To illustrate her beauty & wiles, the songwriters reference old Hollywood glamour -- Davis' expressive eyes, Jean Harlowe's golden blond hair, and Greta Garbo's dramatic sighs. The reference to a spy describes a woman who is always hard to read herself but who knows how to expose any man's weaknesses. Some of the lines in this song are the best maneater lyrics ever -- "pure as New York snow"; "off your feet with the crumbs she throws you" - An 80s classic that was the #1 song of 1981 and the #2 song of the entire 80s decade (behind only ONJ's "Physical"). I know I'm late to the party but I just discovered your channel and am loving it!! x

As well as being one of the greatest actors on film, she changed film. She was out grossing her peers at the box office, including John Wayne and Humphrey Bogart, and used this to get a wider range of roles, there by single handedly changing roles for women, expanding them. She changed film forever making a wider range of stories and plots for all film goers. Legendary. I was 16 when this song came out, what's not to like. Was a big film person when I was young, big Bogart fan, also Peter Lorre and others. Better Davis virtually help kick start the careers of Bogart, Claude Rains and other favorites of mine. Better Davis, gotta love her.

To me is this, Bette Davis eyes can look into one's soul. She can read out those whom she is not the one to be disrespect and played with, just because she's a woman who wanted to make a difference in the quality work as an actress, The Star. She been into the movies since the 1930s on up. She fought the big time studio head honchos of everything she works hard for including her salaries and creative freedom. Majority of her movies are on the serious side. Very seldom she does a comedy which based off a Broadway play call "The Man Who Came To Dinner" which she star along with Ann Sheridan and Monty Wooley. Definitely checkout her movies, pick a date with a big bowl of popcorn or snacks and see her in actions. Great reactions yall👍🏾✊🏾✌🏾

Bette Davis, one of the best and influential actors ever to appear on screen had begun her career on stage before sound movies existed from 1930s onward until death1989. Davis was known for her forceful and intense style of acting and gained a reputation as a perfectionist in her craft. She could be combative and confrontational with studio executives and film directors, as well as with her co-stars, expecting the same high standard of performance and commitment from them as she expected from herself. Her forthright manner, idiosyncratic speech, and ubiquitous cigarette contributed to a public persona that has been often imitated and sung about lol. She admitted that her success had often been at the expense of her personal relationships. She was married four times, divorcing three and widowed once, when her second husband died unexpectedly. She raised her children largely as a single parent. Her daughter, B. D. Hyman, wrote a controversial memoir about her childhood, 1985's My Mother's Keeper. Extremely strong and independent woman that wouldn't take a fool lightly and called a out what she thought was unfair or unjust behavior particularly towards her career and work - tough woman but God she was fabulous.

"Bette Davis Eyes" was a MONSTER hit that paved the way for the sound of the 1980s. It spent nine non-consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, beginning May 16, 1981. That duration at #1 made it the #1 song of 1981, narrowly beating out "Endless Love" by Diana Ross and Lionel Richie, which also spent nine weeks at #1 that year. "Bette Davis Eyes" was also the #2 song of the entire 1980s, behind only "Physical" by Olivia Newton-John, which spent 10 weeks at #1, and was also the #1 song of 1982. ("Endless Love" was the #2 song of 1981, and the #3 song of the entire 1980s.) P.S. 'Carnes' is one syllable. The 'e' is silent.

8:20 .. you asked. so i've loved this song since i was a wee lad and it came out. i never delved into the why BDavis reference. i think BDavis meant something to Kim. a strong female. so i feel Kim wrote this song about a dream girl and added that she has Bette Davis Eyes.. powerful... but for me this song got me cause of the great music and Kims unique xlnt voice. great keyboards. i have made a cover of this song and the music is great. many praises for the xlnt sound of the keyboards and the vocals, and great notes and composition. this song rocked me in California and in the Caribbean when i went there in the 80s. a worldwide loved song.

Bette Davies actually had very clearly recognizable eyes. And she who was highly talented played in movies, but also theatre, together with the very best actors and actresses of that long time period from the 1930ties till the 70ties and her very last movie appearance was in the very early 80ties. And she was one of those for that time rare "strong female characters with attitude" - so to say - in Hollywood which wasn´t always advantagous for her actor career because she often got certain beefs with certain mighty film producers But her from everyone admired tremendous craft in acting and having such a long lasting actor career made her to an all time Hollywood Icon.
