He became disenchanted with the music business and retired at 27. He has started gigging again and has released several albums in the past 5 years. "Never Gonna Give You Up" is the debut single recorded by English singer and songwriter Rick Astley, released on 27 July 1987. It was written and produced by Stock Aitken Waterman, and was released as the first single from Astley's debut album, Whenever You Need Somebody (1987). The song was a worldwide number-one hit, initially in the United Kingdom in 1987, where it stayed at the top of the chart for five weeks and was the best-selling single of that year. It eventually topped the charts in 25 countries, including the United States and West Germany.[6] The song won Best British Single at the 1988 Brit Awards. In 2008, Astley won the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Act Ever with the song, as a result of collective voting from thousands of people on the Internet, due to the Rickrolling meme.[7] The song is considered Astley's signature song and it is often played at the end of his live concerts. The music video for the song has become the basis for the popular "Rickrolling" Internet meme.

What I think I know of Rick Astley (I'm his gen) is he was a runner/gopher/teaboy for the music co. and got a chance to sing a song. He brought a bag with his own clothes and did a video for the song. The song was a big hit and Rick Astley followed up with some more and was all over the UK charts in '87 '88 ish. He was on that road of fame and fortune when he turned away and prioritised his family life instead. 'Never gonna give you up' respect Rick Astley. Very '80s pop machine stuff at the time, but classic legend now.

There’s a video on you tube that is about the making of the Rick Roll where they interview Rick Astly and the others involved in writing and producing this song. It’s pretty cute. This was a hit that almost never was and I think it has almost become more famous the second time around as the Rick Roll. This song was huge in the 80s. His voice was certainly unique. You didn’t expect a voice like that coming out of such a baby face. I love his voice.

Rick Astley was a true find in the 80s. He blew us all away with that big voice and awesome dance moves. He also benefited from the powerHouse production team of Stock Aitken Waterman who boosted many other people's careers at the time with their signature sound. True euro-pop an irresistible sound

Few tidbits about this video: They had practically no budget, so all the clothes you see him wear are actually his own. The guy playing the bartender spent the entire shoot being drunk or hungover. The girl behind Rick (on his left, viewer's right) didn't know all the choreography for the dancing, which is why they keep cutting her out of frame. If y'all want to hear him more comfortable, listen to Together Forever. Video's less awkward and his voice is a bit more controlled. This song and video were basically a test drive.

In the past. That's what Gina meant, Steve. Asia must have been Rick rolled in the past. That's why she knows the chorus
@StevesFunhouse3 жыл бұрын
@@RobertoDAndrea ... and, Asia has clearly indicated that she's heard the song before, but just didn't realize that by the name. You know, people DO hear songs without knowing who did them or what they look like. It happens to her a LOT. Again, that is NOT being "Rickrolled", SPECIFICALLY because the person who sent them the link INTENDED for them to react to this song. Rickrolling is when you follow a link, thinking it is about one thing, but when you get there, it is something completely different. In fact, you've definitely been Rickrolled if and BECAUSE you are given a link to something totally, NOT MUSICALLY RELATED AT ALL, and are sent to this specific video/song. Clearly, everyone is hoping this silly notion is real, but the song IS what the requester wanted them to listen to, and Asia OFTEN knows the songs presented to them, but doesn't realize it until after they start to play it. I've seen her do this on several songs and occasions over the past couple of days alone, and this also happens to most of the reactors that I subscribe to, like Jamel_AKA-Jamal. Does that mean that she or they've been Rickrolled all those times? Of course not. Jokes MAY BE funny when they are real. This is just some childish wishful thinking. Give it a rest.

@@StevesFunhouse All they were saying was that she was probably rick rolled at some point in the past, and that was probably what gave her exposure to this song enough that she recognized it. They weren't saying that this was a rickroll, or that the people requesting this song were rickrolling them. It was just conjecture about where she might have heard the chorus in the past, which is perfectly reasonable to guess. If it's not clear enough, they were saying that at some point Asia had probably been sent a link that she thought led to something else, but it actually was this, and hence she recognized this song, even if she didn't understand the meaning or purpose of a rick roll.
@StevesFunhouse2 жыл бұрын
@@peterlewis2178 That's an assumption, and I don't DO assumptions. Had they been Rickrolled before, they would have mentioned it. You've read my other posts, I assume, so you know where I stand and what I think about it. It needs to stop, this spreading of "little lies" to make yourself feel important. This is how rumors get started and someone WILL eventually get hurt over these things if we don't nip it in the bud, and I'm not waiting around to call offenders out. Not anymore! I've seen probably close to 50 reaction videos (or more) where they pull this same HOAX. It's very annoying, it's NEVER true, it's childish and NEVER makes these people more popular.
