Written by a composer and lyricist. Tried to get Patti LaBelle to do it but she declined. Check out the Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes version. Interesting history- "If You Don't Know Me by Now" was originally written for Labelle (a trio led by Patti LaBelle) but they never recorded it. Much like the issue with "I Miss You" and The Dells passing on it, the song's composers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff gave it to Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, which featured Teddy Pendergrass as lead vocalist. In addition to the single release, the track was included on their debut album I Miss You.

“You’ve got it” is from the same period and an amazing track also. But yeah Mick Hugnall simply has an amazing voice. He is truly gifted, I remember seeing Simply red live once and was amazed how little difference there was between him singing live vs the recorded stuff.
