Jackson Browne started his career writing songs for other artists such as the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (he was briefly a member in 1966) & the Eagles (Browne co-wrote "Take It Easy"). But in the 70's he started recording his own songs. He had a lot of hits 70's-80's such as "Rock Me On The Water", "Here Come Those Tears Again", "The Pretender", "Running On Empty", "Somebody's Baby", "Tender Is The Night" etc.

As far as I'm concerned, Jackson Browne is one of the best singer/song writers of the 1970's. Check out - "The Late Show", "For a Dancer", "Your Bright Baby Blues", "The Only Child", "Love Needs a Heart", "Looking into you", "From Silver Lake', & "Something Fine". All good songs. "Was I unwise to leave them open for so long?" I really like how the guitar solo resembles tears falling, fits and starts at first, building towards a wail. The bass line really grooves in the chorus too. David Crosby and Graham Nash sang the backup vocals and Jesse Ed Davis played lead guitar. Browne wrote the song in 1971. The years he sings about could well be the late 1960's filled with wars, riots, and assassinations, take your pick. Jackson Browne is also well known for writting the Eagle's classic "Take It Easy" together with Glenn Fry. When you're ready for more from him, check out "Running On Empty", "Fountain of Sorrow", and "Late For The Sky" among many others.

On CNN's History of The Eagles, Glen Frye talks about living downstairs from Jackson Browne when he was writing this song and how he'd do the opening phrases on his piano over and over and over, then he'd write some more and then play up to that point over and over and at that moment, Frye realized what it takes to write songs - persistence, elbow grease, hard work.

@@laudanum669 So sorry to hear this, as I know how it can be having said the same for many years. I thought I had lost her, but also concluded that if she had changed into quite a different person that I had known, then I was at peace with the universe driving us in different directions. We had both went on to have marriages that ended in divorce, and I had arrived at a place that for the first time I felt ok on my own and wasn’t too concerned with investing in another relationship when it all came together for us. I think that my indifference towards cohabitation added a great deal of patience and prudence to my overall outlook. It was effortless for me to take a “go with the flow” relaxed attitude towards any dating by then. I hope that you find a positive and enriching environment where you can have balance and truly thrive.

Ol' Jackson Browne has had a long, varied career. Most of it he has been in front of his band on the road, but he has done a lot of supporting work for others as well. BTW Jackson Brown had the basement apartment under Glenn Frey's apartment (Before The eagles) and Glenn said he could hear how Jackson would work out a song which helped Glenn learn how to write songs. Also it was Jackson Brown that started writing "Take It Easy" but then got stuck on the lyrics. Glenn then took it and he began with the lyrics " It's A Girl My Lord In A Flat Bed Ford"

And his other hits were on the radio so much when I was a kid but it was one of the artists that I really never got tired of hearing because it's just so good. And now that I'm older, I can see what a brilliant songwriter he was. And I played music for years and I really appreciate the arrangements and of course his voice is lovely. His album Running on Empty is phenomenal but the single that I bought in high school that always made me feel emotional and I've seen other people recommended here, is called Load Out / Stay. It's about after the show is over and the Roadies are packing up all the stage gear and the arena is now empty but he's telling them please leave my piano to be the last thing cuz he just wants to keep playing it. And then it's time to get on the bus and travel to the next town and then do the next show. But then the second part, which is side B of the single, and there are KZbin videos that put the two back to back with just a slight Gap because they're meant to be one continuous song on the album is during the show and he's saying hey people stay please stay, make us play a little longer and you can hear audience noise in the background and stuff and it's a lot more upbeat. It's just a wonderful and emotional composition.

Browne is part of the singer/ songwriter genre. And one of the best. When people wrote lyrics that meant something.

Jackson Brown is a genius philosopher who can express his thoughts and feelings about a subject and put it to music better than just about anyone else. You absolutely have to hear Running On Empty, That Girl Could Sing, Love Needs A Heart, Somebody’s Baby, Lawyers In Love,The Loadout/Stay and many others. He was Glen Frye’s (Eagles) roommate and gave them a song (Take It Easy)that became one of their first hits. This Dude is ALL THAT AND MORE.

So happy you’re on to Jackson. I’ve been a fan since forever. This song is a vibe and it sounds as good today as when it was released in 1978. Please do “Here Come Those Tears Again” next. I think you’ll really like it. ❤️

There was a dynasty of musical artists who hung around together, wrote songs together, performed on each other's albums, and served as friends and confidants to each other. A partial list: Jackson Brown, Linda Ronstadt, Warren Zevon, James Taylor, The Eagles, J D Souther, Waddy Wachtel, and while not a musician, Dr. Hunter S Thompson.

Jackson was deep with the lyrics,..but ohh could he make it catchy huh?,..have you singing along,.foot tapping,..dancing with your girl,..swinging her out and back again,..incredible song writer,..Asia and BJ,..just sit back, close your eyes and imagine its 1972,..home from school,..laying back in your bed,..radio above your head,..blaring out Jackson,..just takes me back I swear,..it so trips me out when I hear you young people say, ohh its a new song,..or a new artist,..and it's someone I use to listen to 40, 50 years ago,..I'm so happy your getting hooked on this old music,..old for me,..huh old like me😉,..Somebody's Baby,.Running On Empty,..Stay(which is an oldie from the early 60's, just on the heels of the 50's,.had that 50's sound like songs the Platters did,.Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, Jackson is doing a cover, I use to hear and see other groups on Midnight Special,.Johnny Carson do a cover of it, think maybe Linda Ronstadt even, besides Jackson), Pretender(humpff, such a good one, beautifully done, composed),..I swear when you hear his songs,..and see him perform,..I just looks so effortless,..you can just picture him coming up with these songs so easily,..like breathing in air,..do enjoy,..do keep going,..Godspeed, Peace ✌

This was a huge hit in the early 70s and was always on the radio for years afterwards. JB had a string of hits back then and was as popular as Elton John, James Taylor, Steve Miller, and Jim Croce.
