It is a “poor man’s salad” if you will. It grows very hardy in the south. Also Elvis was a great showman in his day and always clowned around on the stage. He was very personable, humble and loved relating to his audience. I witnessed that at the Norfolk scope Colosseum in 1975. He simply amazed us! Obviously the sticking of the microphone in his mouth was just him goofing around on the stage. We miss him!

Elvis was very spontaneous on stage. He directed the band with his movements, didn't have choreography planned ahead of time, never did the same song exactly the same way twice, changed the order of songs, took requests from the audience, etc. His musicians really had to pay attention. I'd love to see your reactions to these fun ones: (1) Elvis - Love Me Tender, Kissing a lot of Girls (7:41); (2) Elvis Presley - Love Me - 9 April 1972, Evening Show (1:52); (3) King Elvis Presley "One Night" Live in Las Vegas (2:35). (2) and (3) could be done in the same reaction because they're both fairly short.

Margaret Taylor Yeah, even after the show he & the guys would go to his room & sing gospel. When he was at Graceland he would sit at his piano and just sing whatever popped into his head. So he sang even when he didn"t have to. I think he sang more than he talked.

Lord help me. LOL. When I was little we were poor as church mice. We walked the dirt road picking polk and wild mustard greens. Dandelion greens and wild onions. Made a great supper. Polk had to be picked young and tender in the spring. You don't pick it with the berries in it. That makes it poisonous. Even young and tender you boil it then pour that water off rinse the leaves then put it on to boil again with other greens or by itself with fat back to season it. Left over is great in your scrambled eggs. It had lots of iron in it. All types of greens are very good for your blood. The ladies were crazy for him. His "gyrations" as the critics called it was what the ladies loved.

We love it here in Arkansas. We have a lot that grows around our pond and the crick that feeds it. My 11yo daughter loves it mixed with scrambled eggs. We have an elderly lady that lives close by. We always have a big potluck in the spring. Poke salad and eggs, ham, white beans, cornbread, fresh sliced tomatoes and onions, etc. MmmmmMmmmm good.

It's actually "Poke Salad Annie." Pokeweed is like a native weed in the Southland. It is edible if cooked but poisonous if eaten raw. American Indians ate it and also poor Southerners back in the day. I don't think many would touch the stuff now.

To piggy back on some comments here, Elvis's drummer was one of the best in the World, but he didn't actually play according to what the rest of the band was doing. He watched Elvis moving around on stage and followed his lead. They had great chemistry together. So the stage movements you see him doing fed his drummer.
