It's awesome that you have several types of persimmon trees, but kind of sucks that you're not exactly sure what type some of them are. I'm still jealous! Thanks for sharing and enjoy them!

We love non astringent varieties but they drop most fruit because of the non stop rain.

I have about twenty varieties in my persimmon orchard ages 4-7 years old. Overwatering and too much nitrogen can cause fruit trees to abort fruits. I barely water my trees. Only water them lightly every week. Astringent variety need the frost to activate sugars within the fruits. Leaf curling usually mean there is a fungus issue. Spray with a mixture of water, baking soda, dish soap in a garden sprayer. Spray three times a week during cooler time of the day.

Thanks for the tip with leaf curl, I’ll definitely do that. Good thing is that I only have one with leaf curl and it is isolated. They stop dropping fruits after the 2nd year but will monitor the watering for sure.

Where did you bought all the trees so cheap?
@TreehouseVineyard
@TreehouseVineyard 4 ай бұрын
I bought the bare root plants from Ison’s nursery, they were on sale for $16 each. The mislabeled Hachiya and some of the Fuyus are 50% at Harris nursery during summer. This is during 2021 before inflation, they were 4 feet tall for $20. The rest are from Bob wells nursery clearance section when they were moving locations. $10 each but they were just sticks and I had to pot, shade and nourish them for a year before planting them in ground.

They get tall and big but I will be prunning them based on Dave Wilson backyard fruit height where you can easily harvest them.

Hana is really difficult to work with. But I'm surprised my Hana finally has a tiny bud pop out afyer waiting 2 months plus. So I am excited. Tyty arrived 3 days ago and it's a dead three brown and black when scratched. $87. Tyty said to plant anyway. Ridiculous. Anything to keep customers money. Not responding to email I said I'm not planting a dead tree. Isons is better.

Tyty looks like bad news more and more. I’ve never tried Hana Fuyu, is it just a different foliage than regular Fuyu?

This is the problem when you buying certain variety, just to find out few years later it’s not

It's common with nurseries to mislabel. You have to wait for the fruit for confirmation.

My experience is that it is a common problem if you buy from the big box stores. A reputable nursery seldom have that issue. They have to be credible to be profitable. Over the years, I returned four mislabled fruit trees to the big box stores, some after two years later, with labels and receipts on hand. Some trees are much larger that I could not(or willing to) dig them out. Guess what, the store managers would not send someone to get them back either.

I agree that most big box stores mislabel a lot of what they sell, however Harris Nursery and Bob Wells Nursery are both local East Texas nurseries that has been around for decades and still mis label a lot of of plants. I also have mislabeled muscadines from Ison’s nursery which I ordered online so it can really happen but not as common as the big box store. It really becomes a problem when you are expecting a variety to help with pollination and needed up getting the opposite.

I wouldn’t buy clearance plants anymore because bringing them back to full health takes a lot of maintenance and time. I would spend the money for more mature plants knowing this now. It’s also good to hunt for bargain fruit trees which usually happens late summer when people slows down purchasing them.

I wish that was the case. But I taste tested them and they are astringent. Same shape as Hachiya.
