I really like Rojo Brillante because it's crunchy but I'm not sure if they will frozen in the winter in Bulgaria. I'm looking for other crunchy varieties. Have you compared other varieties with Rojo?

I would love to know how you take care of you persimmons from planting to harvest. What type of soil do they prefer? What fertilizers? How often do you water? Any special recommendations?
@amandaa84723 жыл бұрын
Hi! I have a question. Where I live, we have two persimmon varieties that you can buy, and it seems to be Fuyu and Hichiya, but I have read and heard from many sources that the Fuyu is the one that can be eaten firm while the Hichiya has to be super soft, but in my experience it's the opposite? At least with the Hichiya looking one. It is astringent and bitter when unripe, yes, but when it gets some little brown spots (which I've heard is sugar culmulations?) but is still sorta firm, it is perfectly fine to eat. I prefer them firm. The peel is also edible on these. But I've always heard that the Hichiya can only be eaten soft, and people don't tend to et the peel. So this might be another variety, but I don't know which?

Yes, persimmons are an amazing fruit that many people don’t know about or have never eaten! But it’s outstanding!! Fuyu can be eaten in any stage, firm or as it’s softening, until it becomes a super soft, super sweet creamy pudding! You can freeze the soft creamy fruit to eat or to bake with at another time! I also bake with the crunchy stage & it’s outstanding!! The Asian culture also love & value Persimmons! They dry then whole for future consumption(great snack👍🏻🤗)!! **Trying to limit the birds & rodents is the biggest challenge of ALL!! Liset -- what does your family do to limit/discourage the birds & rodents? I would love your ideas!!

We hang up shiny strings that reflect lots of light to deter birds from eating them, but its hard to protect our fruit from animals 100%.

Hello Question… We have a five year old Fuyu tree. Last two years we’ll have flowers & become small fruit but eventually drop all of them. Baby fruit has brown on top. We live in California and it gets lots of sun. Is this normal to drop fruit?

The thing that gives the persimons/kakis (family name is persimon, but the fruit name is kaki) the drymouth/astringent taste are called tannins.

Hello! Fuyu persimmons do best in zones 7-10. Fuyu is a Japanese variety. However, there are American varieties that will be more tolerant of the cold in your zone 5. Look at all those stinking persimmons! Never met one I didn't like. Saw a video a while back of an Asian lady with some beautiful fuyu trees. She never spoke but picked a fruit and broke it open. All juicy and yummy looking. She tossed it over her shoulder and shook her head no. I was like what? No what?!! 🤣Anyhow she picked another that was obviously dehydrated and when she broke it open it was thick and gooey much like a full ripe American persimmon. Shook her head "yes" and I was thinking oh yeah, I get it! Persimmons just started coming in around here. Gotta try that this year if I can refrain from gobbling them up before they get there! 🤣

La variedad para comer sin necesidad de que este bien maduro es 'Fuyu" Usualmente, son redondos como una calabaza de Halloween, pero hay muchas variantes de "Fuyu".

You keep saying how soft persimmons are for baking. They are as much for eating fresh as the hard ones are. When persimmons get soft, especially the astringent ones, they develop a better flavor than they have when they are still hard.
