The Philippines wasn't even colonized by Britain, but somehow they managed to create a territorial dispute between Malaysia and the Philippines over Sabah.🤦‍♂️
@user-tv4ih2kq6r
@user-tv4ih2kq6r 3 жыл бұрын
Actually Britain did during 7 years war about 2 years, it was the occupation of British Manila altho these whole scenario is irrelevant to the disputed territory. The disputed territory is about Sulu sulatanate having the control all over the Sulu islands, southern Palawan, and North Borneo. But dont get me wrong, I still think it is suppose to be part of Malaysia.
@itsourtubenow9729
@itsourtubenow9729 3 жыл бұрын
@@user-tv4ih2kq6r if it's part of Malaysia, then why did they continue paying rent to the sultan of sulu after gaining independence?
@user-tv4ih2kq6r
@user-tv4ih2kq6r 3 жыл бұрын
@@itsourtubenow9729 well... it was only part of the treaty between the sultanate of Sulu and British empire on 1878, but it stopped already since 2013. Plus even if so, the Spanish empire doesnt have sovereignity over the north Borneo territory, only southern Palawan and Sulu islands were annexed.
@lindsaymartinez5341
@lindsaymartinez5341 3 жыл бұрын
@@user-tv4ih2kq6r You do know Philippines was not completely captured for over 300 years Sultanate of Sulu joined the PH government after the second world war And BTW the British only rented the North Borneo from the Sultanate of Sulu and guess what? The Britished turned over North Borneo to the Malaysia instead of the Philippines
@user-tv4ih2kq6r
@user-tv4ih2kq6r 3 жыл бұрын
@@lindsaymartinez5341 Firstly, its 333 yrs. Secondly, why would Britain turn it over to Philippines, which is a Spanish Colony instead of Malaysia which is a British colony? The treaty pretty much just implied that they (north Borneo) already agreed to be part of Britain and the "rent" is just an agreement that they will be funded for the development of the state, could be requesting for its autonomy as well but that is already beyond agreement. Plus the sultanate of Sulu (north Borneo, Sulu islands, and southern Palawan) and sultanate of Maguindanao (south western Mindanao) were Spanish-Dutch buffer states in east indies until Britain came so both sultanates were annexed by Spain except for the north Borneo which is part of British east indies. This isnt even debatable, the Sultanate of Sulu was clearly just splitted by both Colonizers not either.

The reason behind Yemen's claim of the Kuria Muria Islands is because they were administrated by the British protectorate of Aden. Today Yemen is the successor state of the protectorate of Aden, that's why they claim the islands.

Two other disputes between Japan and North & South Korea are the Liancourt Rocks (Dokdo/Takeshima) and the Sea of Japan/East Sea naming dispute (not really a territorial dispute or a dispute that anyone but ultra-nationalists care about but still a conflict). The Liancourt Rocks are definitely a bigger issue though, with Japanese citizens regularly holding protests whenever a Korean politician visits the islands.

5:23 It's wrong the lands of British India got independence but the princely states wanted to be a country and after some peaceful annexations there was four country's India,Pakistan,Kashmir and Hyderabad which is now the state of Telengana.(a state of India) India not wanting to enclave a country,annexed Hyderabad but India let Kashmir be Independent . But at the time Kashmir's population was 74% Muslim But 26% Hindu. (you can see where this is going) The Muslims of Kashmir wanted to join Pakistan but the Hindu ruler wanted to be Independent. Pakistan eventually backed the Muslims of Kashmir and all in war a go. The Hindu ruler wanted help from India and said "if you help me i will join you" and India said "ok" and you know the rest of the story Lot's of wars, 1971 Bengal resistance, the 2008 Mumbai attacks Bla Bla Bla.

The issue of the South China Sea is a really serious one. China have been trying to turn atolls into island to claim the land around it, not just to access the fishing and mineral rights, but also to restrict trade shipping in the area. That's why you often hear of the US and AUS navies conducting "Freedom of Navigation" exercises in the area to establish the precedent that the area is still international waters

In the 2008 state exam, we were asked to answers questions regarding the recent clash between Cambodia and Thailand. I am Cambodian and somehow my race, Khmer have had a lot of conflicts with Thailand and Vietnam. A lot have changed over the years but the scar is still new. The bleeding just stop some years ago. Vietam invaded or liberated cambodia in 1979 and only left in 1989. Before that, we already had over 300 years of continous war. The same with Thailand. The last small clash was in 2008. From a very young age, we were taught to remember the "empire" we lost to the Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. We were taught to remember the pain which makes some students become extremist. Well, now that I grow up, I can only blame my own country for its own downfall. We can only learn from it and keep moving forward. One thing I am sure is that territory is no longer as important as it used to be unless it provides political pretext which can be exploited to advance the interested party's agenda.

The video doesn't mention the Afghanistan-Pakistan border dispute called the "Durand line" which Afghanistan doesn't recognize and serves as the root cause of on-going the war on terror. It's a complex topic, but it's a worthwhile subject to tackle in the interest of spreading general knowledge, and Asian territorial disputes in particular, with far-reaching ramifications. It will also be one more reason to justify a Part 2 to this series.

First, the island is Singaporean Secondly, the Limbang district is not forced to give, the Sultan give it to Malaysia and Malaysia protect Brunei And third, Philippines has no right on Sabah Why? Cuz Sulu itself say they have no power on Sabah when they give Sabah to UK Philippines also dont reconize Sulu Sultanete In 1963, Sabah decided to form Malaysia along with Sarawak and Singapore ( Singapore no longer a part of Malaysia in 1965)
