My mother married a white man and I immigrated to Australia when I was a child. When I was growing up I was surrounded by asian women who married white men. More often than not I see these women work very hard to earn money, raise their children, doing work around the house and 'serve' their husband. And yet the husbands are disrespectful, lazy and ungrateful. Disrespecting their wife as a woman of race and their culture. These women get treated like a slave when they should highly be applaud for all their daily hardwork. I cried everyday for years as a child growing up and seeing my mother being treated in such a way. And yet she still tells me to be grateful to him. It makes me furious. Just because I am in a 'better' country due to my mother marrying a white men. That doesnt mean that WE are that men doormat. But the problem is, there is not one single person outside of our home who knows what's really going on inside. The reality is even though I was raised in poverty back in Asia but I had a childhood and was happy. And when I moved to the 'free' country I felt that all my childhood was robbed from me and I was locked in a box with tears and aching heart as my daily bread. I felt so alone and hopeless. So dont look badly on these Asian women. Because these women have to be one of the hardest working and strongest women I ever met. All women should be respected. No matter the race or background.
@missymunro76915 жыл бұрын
Men like your mothers husband behave that way to plenty of 'white women' too,white,black,brown and yellow,they hunt out women they can dominate bully and control so 'buying Asian brides' as it's called is just another fork off the bullies track when they fail to trick another 'white' national woman or want to speed up the process and bypass all the effort of dating and having to pretend to be who they are not. I don't think anyone looks badly on any women who honestly just wishes to lift themselves and their children out of poverty and constant struggle, we look badly on horrible dominating bullies like your mothers husband who abuse and trick vulnerable,nice women

Thanks for sharing your story. I was wondering how local people interact with these foreign women in the island. Aren't their children discriminated against at school by other children or maybe eben teachers? If these children are brighter than local children, do these children get jealous of the half Asian children? I live in the States as an Asian woman with English as a second language. When white males approach me, I get an impression of them as overly confident as if they already knew I would be honored. That being said Asian women are more likely seen as "less than" by white men; therefore, Asian women should be graceful to be approached by white men. This is why I think women should be educated(instead of men to be educated) to be independent for their freedom. When women need to depend on men, some men take advantage of them. Unfortunately, we cannot control these men's mentality and their behavior to respect women.

Imagine being a medical student, like me, and getting called a prostitute once a week my your patients and people on the streets. Please don’tV paint the picture that ALL Thai girls are prostitutes, many of us are educated and work hard. UPDATE: it’s been 2 year, I wrote this in my 1st year med school and now that I’m in clinical year (at hospital everyday), I can confirm that it doesn’t get better. I want to clearly state that prostitutes are also most likely educated people and we shouldn’t judge someone by their need to stay alive (unless it hurts others). I want to thank everyone who supports the Black Lives Matter movement, as my school is now looking into the inequalities BAME students face in practice. Great human stupidity is an attempt at self-deception. Especially under the influence of idiotic modern trends. Human nature is an established mechanism, physical and, more importantly, psycho-emotional. And we are trying to deceive this mechanism. Stupidity. People are unhappy, as a result, trying in various stupid ways to become happier, we drive ourselves into misfortune even more. Nature is always higher than human. Don't do anything about it. People are stupid and vicious precisely because they are people. It just needs to be accepted and forgiven. We are far from perfect. Good luck buddy.

I think the video title should be rephrased to Faroese men looking for love in Asia. Clearly, not all, but many Asians, those who come from poor backgrounds are after the better opportunities, not love, while many Faroese men are trying to gain power at home by marrying women who are more likely to take on traditional roles.

@samthepoet1077 жыл бұрын
Then base on what you initially say looking for love it should be looking for caretakers or maids. The single man in the video said it well. He wants a traditional woman. One who would do things for him. Like the Filipina who made the fried fish in the beginning of the video. But she educated herself, has a job and even learned the Faroe language so she wears many hats.

Sofia You are seeing it in reverse. It's the women gaining power by marrying outside of a misogynistic culture that suppresses women. In the faroes they can be whoever they want to be. And the men are just awkward, that's why they opt for a partner that's less hard to attract.

neejohnenjegek Kiv "It's the women gaining power by marrying outside of a misogynistic culture that suppresses women." You are actually wrong. Many of my fellow Filipinas marry foreign men because they see it as a way to get better jobs and a better future for their loved ones back home. You have no idea what you're going on about. Women in the Philippines actually have a much more equal treatment to men compared to any Asian country. They're breadwinners. This is just one way they see to provide for their families back home.

I look forward to having children with her and further enjoying good family life and blessings for the future. I applaud the courage these women have to travel to such far destinations from their family and homeland and the work they do to knit together hope for men who's lives are lonely and sometimes lost. Just like any relationship no matter what the nationalities involved, it takes time to get to know each other before marriage, but negative comments that have been put here are uncalled for and aim to tarnish even the good relationships. I suggest if you don't have anything positive to say, then don't say anything. From the content of the heart the mouth speaks. Evil words, evil heart.

Yes exactly, it doesn't matter how it begins as long as they are kind to each other. There are many good signs showing: the women speak of greater equality, they choose to follow their family members their after visiting and seeing the situation for themselves and still say years on that they prefer it, the single man expressed concern for not hearing the voices of these women enough, the 100% Filipino children who came with their mothers are treated well enough that they prefer it... There are other marriages that do not go well, but that is true around the world for all marriages. Humans are always a mixed lot. The conditions overall seem to be decent and humane for everyone involved, certainly better than in many other places in the world. It is a good sign that the divorced Thai woman was able to buy a home and a car, that she likes her job. The fact that she was able to get a visa and can choose to make her home there indicates the laws and conditions are much more fair than in many other places. I have no doubt it was hard for her--divorce always is--but we can only judge if the laws and conditions are fair and humane.

As a filipina myself, this is a difficult subject to to talked about. But seeing as i see a lot of prejudiced comments being thrown here, i’ll try to give a perspective about what its really like. There are women who seeks a better life than what our country or our men can offer. Poverty, lack of education and sometimes pressure from family to provide for them makes it an easier choice for some to try and marry older foreigner men who they think can help to better their lives. And most of the time it does happen. These women gets to immigrate in their husband’s country where access to health, education and most importantly a higher salary, these things are greater than the slums and hardship theyre used to back home. It is a culture happening even now. Even family members urged their daughters or nieces to marry men like that because they think our own men are no good compared to foreigners. They think being white also equals to better bank accounts. And while you see these women as opportunists or gold diggers, their story is not for you to judged. BUT i know women who learns to eventually love their husbands and are very loyal to them, love is quiet thing that grows within them, when i asked them how, they told me that their husbands are equally loving and caring, 2 qualities that warms a woman’s heart. I know women who raised their children and give them the childhood they never had. I know how these women provides for their family back home by their earnings they get abroad. These women are generous, selfless and they have a kind heart. It is very unfair to automatically assume the worst of them just because of the choices they made. As if they have options and opportunities like those in the rich countries in the first place. As if its not hard enough as it already is to leave the comforts of home and settle in a different country with a different language and an even different culture or weather and much worse, leaving the people you love behind in the pursuits of having more. When someone offers you a much better quality of life than what you had back home, wouldnt you want to grab that immediately and hold on to that hoping and dreaming against all odds that it is finally your answer to all your problems? These women feels that way. Their circumstances are very different from yours so you dont get to raised your flags as if you are so much better than them. You’re not.

I went from business to business to ask for a job and i have to say that I was never jobless for more than a week or so. Yeah, of course you learn to love people you are surrounded with, that goes for your coworkers, neighbors etc, that’s just a bs excuse to convince yourself that you didn’t do anything wrong. I admire the Thai woman. She's strong and independent. I'm happy for her. I am Filipino but man, I kinda cringed when I learned that Mary Joy's mom and sister also married Faroese men. However, I'm not judging them or anything. I think MJ is an amazing, smart woman. I think that like most Filipinos, they just wanted a better life. A better future. I hope people realize that we are not all born with equal opportunities. Not all of us can afford to follow our dreams and marry who we love. A lot of Filipinos are born poor. There isn't anything wrong in wanting to have a better future as long as they are not hurting anybody or breaking any law. It's their life and they should be entitled to do whatever they think will be good for them.

It must be down to the fact that they will marry whoever is willing to bring them there, whiteout even knowing the person, that will put any woman in a dangerous situation, put together the fact that they will completely and fully depend on their husbands, as soon as the situations get bad they really don’t have a way out, they are trapped, they don’t have any money, they don’t speak the language, they don’t have any friends or families, I mean it’s only obvious they will be more prone to entering abusive relationships that might end them in a woman’s shelter

I would love for them to be together more often, but my mother in law is happy where she is in life at the moment. furthermore, I live debt free and will retire in 3 more years. so before you make ill informed, generalized comments online towards complete strangers , perhaps you need to think before you post.

I cringed when at the dinner table, Mary Joy reacted standoffish-ly to her husband showing her affection by putting his arm around her. A part of me felt bad for her, because in looking at her wedding video, you see how young she was and that she had her entire life ahead of her. It seems like she didn't get the chance to "live", in the sense of making use of her youth to forge for herself the type of life she truly wanted. She got to marry, and leave the Philippines and have children. So, those are good things; but at what cost? Poverty makes people desperate man.

Mary Joe does not love her husband, she basically "sold"/ sacrificed herself to help her family. Obviously she comes from an impoverished family and married him for money, a better economic situation to help get money to her family in the Philippines. Then later got the other women from her family to the Faroe Islands. That's why her cousin said "love is sacrifice", because they all didn't marry for love, but for $$$. Sad.

People creating relationships out of necessity is nothing new, these men want companionship and a homemaker, western women want careers and a more elaborate lifestyle, for them that island can feel like a trap. but for women who live in a place that is more chaotic the seek the quite life this works for them, they want to be taken care of, they seek security. If it works, great, loneliness or uncertainty are both equally stressful and make a person unhappy, if 2 people can work together and at least find mutual benefits then so be it.

"...................................... If the women aren't there, it's difficult. You can't invent a woman. So, yeah. you have to find the woman elsewhere. And the easiest way is the Asian Countries......................................" I am Filipina who once dated a Western man and I see where these Faroese men are coming from. This is an honest, practical and realistic point of view. Most of us dream to settle down and have our own family. According to BBC, in recent years the Faroes have experienced population decline, with young people leaving, often in search of education, and not returning. Some of their Faroese women have proved more likely to settle abroad. So what about the men left? They have to widen their options in search for a wife so they turn and look beyond their island for romance. That's when interracial marriage favors them. And for everyone's information, the Asian women are not just plain housewives. Some have come in are very active in the labour market, which is good for Faroe Island's economy. Stop this hypocrisy about "Mail-Order Bride", "Golddigger", "Marriage for Convenience", blah, blah, blah. Everyone, any race or skin color, is capable of Fraud and Scam. I don't see anything wrong if a woman will see a man beyond his good looks but his capability to stand for her, emotionally, physically and financially. If interracial marriage works in Faroe island and what makes it as it is now, who are we to judge???

I hate to point out the fact that these women seem to come from a specific demographic in the Philippines. I hope people who watch this don't generalize everything they say on here about the Philippines or about Filipino women. When she said that the Philippines was more "patriarchal", that's her experience and not a generalization of the country as a whole. They paint the Philippines as this country with absolutely no opportunities and a very dangerous, unsafe place to live in. One of the women even mentioned that the "Faroe Islands is the last paradise on this earth." Not to knock on Faroe Islands, it seems absolutely beautiful but I just wonder how many other countries and "paradise" has this woman seen or experienced to be able to make such a bold statement? These women seem to come from the same social class so their experiences and knowledge are all they know within their bubble and does not speak for all Filipino women. With that said, the good thing about Filipinas in general is that they truly value putting their families first no matter what. They would sacrifice personal happiness if that meant their families will be well taken care of. They are known for their nurturing, caring, hospitable ways along with personal cleanliness and having a home that is always in order. These Faroese men are looking for the "traditional" type of woman that these Filipinas truly embody. That is why many of these types of marriages work for the most part and is a win/win situation for both counterparts. That is if the men are actually good human beings who treat their wives with respect and not just treat them as personal maids and sexual slaves.

This is why I am so blessed to be a Singaporean, I am secured. I reject white guys because I prefer cats. Cats won't hurt you and they are way more interesting than a pale white dude.

They can go to university anywhere in the Nordic area -- but most go to Denmark. (The Faroe Islands are together with Greenland and Denmark proper part of the same state. Everybody there speaks Danish as a second language and English as a third.)
