I remember trying to watch this all those years ago as a young teen, and I knew that this was not for me because of his abusive behavior--it's honestly disgusting. All this is really toxic and lowkely looks like a fanfiction. And there's also a forced kiss sequence if I am not wrong.

But as I grow older I realized how toxic almost all of the relationships here. All the bullying, the cheating and the fighting for the girl even though they were best friends. Okay so: I watched this summer 2014 and I remember loving it. It started my kdrama passion and I would recommended to everyone. I listened to the OST, I cried my worse heartbreak to those songs and fell in love again, and all along, the songs accompany me. In a nutshell, this drama was extremely meaningful to me. Fast forward 2020 watching this plus other clips, I realized how terrible everything and everyone are!!! Ugh! From the classmates to the F4, to poor Jandi, the only guy I kind of endured is the orange hair guy but even he isn’t doing anything to stop violent Jun Pyo!!! The only reasonable one was the model and he was beaten the crap out of. This drama is terribly toxic and I would not recommend it because we shouldn’t normalize abuse, jealousy and violence

This drama was based on 90s Japanese manga comic "Hana Yori Dango". And back in the 90s, this storyline hasn't become basic yet. That manga was one of the first which portrayed rich guy and poor girl. After that, other mangas and dramas followed it and this plot became common. Also, this drama was one of the first dramas which made Hallyu wave and K-drama popular, that's why it might not be the best by today's standard, but it's a legend.

Everyone is talking about how Jun Pyo was abusive, overcontolling, possessive Jandi shouldn't have chosen. him some people also went has far as making F4 as F3 .I know that he shouldn't have beaten Haje and pulling Jandis collar was bad ,but why is no one talking about how he changed? Haje even kidnapped Jandi in the later episode, he was send by Jun puys Mom to create all this mess. Jun pyo was first abusive but later he totally felled and changed for her. I think almost all commentaries are related with the fact that we don't have to justify this type of behavior, because in the reality the guys who have this kind of problems don't change because of one person, they change because they realize that something it's wrong with their behavior and it takes them a lot of time to make real changes (no like in the dramas). This type of dramas can make you believe that you can be in a relationship with someone who has a lot of problems and for love, you can resist everything and ¡NO! Maybe he loves you, but the way he loves it's not in a healthy way, so you have to avoid it prioritizing yourself and your stability.

As the show, "Boys Over Flowers", goes on it gets better. This is on netflix. As well as the Chinese remake "Meteor Garden", I believe, which is just as awesome! 🤗 I hope everyone will enjoy these ! ughhh stop complaining!! 1. Frist of all, this drama came out 11 years ago. The mindset was different. If you watch recent dramas, you will see the difference. 2. Partriachy was a normal thing in every East, South East Asian family. We even have a word to describe it as a character of a man. So what you now described as a toxic relationship was a normal thing in asia. 3. Why were this drama so hyped? Like I said, IT WAS 11 years ago and with the 'patriachy' thing, it was like a fairytale for ALMOST every girl, that their boyfriend is a powerful man, who treats everyone like dirts except for his girl - his one and only love. It's like every other teen series, there's only one special girl. Everyone want this special spot. 4. Jun Pyo never violent Jandi when they were in a relationship. He hurted her emotionally but not physically. Plus, again, with the mindset back then and the fact that the main male roll has the An-Asshole-To-Everyone Character and he's rich and good looking. It is logic that he has to hurt the girl and still being forgive. 6. 11 years ago, people didn't like that instant-noodle hairstyle of him either.

@@Leira4 I personally don't think it is smart to interpret a story without knowing the context. The key word is "judging with context". That's what most people here are missing. It's just not fit, very judgemental with a bit of ignorance when using only the point of view in 2020 without considering the one in 2009 to judge if a relationship healthy or not. I cannot say, that my grandparent's or my parent's relationship were toxic just because in 2020 women can talk back to their husband if they want. And just like that, my mom and my grandmother shouldn't say that I am insolent just because I think I can talk back to my husband. I read the comments and there were a lot of them saying how they cannot stand this drama and their toxic relationship, one even said that he/she didn't understand why the drama was so hyped. All of these kind of comments didn't show any deeper understanding of culture, the way people think and act in the past, ect.. they just complaint and judgement, and this shouldn't happen, because it could/will turn the originally purest, nicest intention into something very very dark. That's why I wrote the comment. That's why I said stop complaining. I would say that Junpyo is very controlling, I wouldn't say he's abusive (because he has never hurted Jandi physically). It's 2020 and I am definitely gonna stay away from guys who act like that. It's one of the sign that warns a toxic relationship with someone, who could in the future constantly shows patriarchal behavior. So yeah, it does have something to do with the patriarchy thing.
