Just had a tempo long run over 10 miles in the sky plus. Perhaps the best shoes I have ran in.

Great review, I think that as a slow heel striker I should get the Metaspeed Sky (V1) or new Metaspeed Edge +.

Not sure why they couldn't make the rubber go all the way to the back... Surely just a couple of grams and would aid durability (maybe that's the point?!). I went for the Edge+ and love it so far... Apparently I'm also a left side only heel striker too!?

Also slightly worried I’ve got the wrong one. I’m not a heel striker at all but my stride is very short and quite fast rather than bounding. Hmm.

I would love the Vapors more if the lace area/tongue is on the center/middle area like most standard shoes, instead of it being offset or tangential placement. The tongue slips down when I run more than 10kms.

Excellent review! How do you think they compare to endorphin pro 3?

Great review! Since you say these should be reserved as race day shoes what would you suggest as trainers for the long runs? I currently use Brooks Ghost 14 with insoles as trainers and just started using the Asics Metaspeed Sky+ (with insoles) for a recent 10K race and enjoyed running in them. I also intend to use it for the Chicago marathon.

The Ghost 14 is a nice shoe. It depends how much cushioning you want really. The Brooks Glycerin 20 is a fantastic long run shoe, along with the Saucony Triumph 20. Both are very cushioned and comfortable. If you want something a bit more versatile maybe the Saucony Ride or the Speed 3 if you want to train faster.

I have both versions. Fit wise the Plus has a wider toe box for sure. The midsole was a disappointment…was expecting a much more plush ride compared to the first one. It is more plush but not as much as I had hoped. Think the shoe needs more drop cuz it’s really geared for true forefoot strikers. All in all not a huge upgrade.

How do I know which one to get with regard to edge or sky plus?

Asics didn't invent the wheel or discover fire here...the stride vs. cadence thing is a marketing tool. I bet one of these two shoes is gone within 18 months. If the stride vs. cadence thing was legit, it would have been a "thing" a long time ago. These are both great shoes, the Sky and the Edge, but it's marketing.

Im at a bit of a loss. I am also frustrated because many of the shoes I buy have to be purchased over the internet because they are not available locally. I have heard many reviews on the Metaspeed Sky and set out to purchasing them. I found that they ran cloggy (picture yourself running in a hard foam clog), that although the upper gave enough room for the width of my foot, that because the upper is so tightly adhered to the midsole, that it does not accomodate thicker socks well. Yes, I can always size up, however, I stopped that practice some time ago because in so many cases the shoe has completely different dynamics and feel when I am in a larger size. The most recent example of this is the New Balance 1080. I just dont get the benefits of the shoe design unless I am in the size that fits my foot. I always appreciate it when reviewers indicate if they had to size up or size down. This already tells me that I should re-consider as inherently the reviewer also may not be able to accuratly judge the shoe design and performance and this is no fault of their own. Anyway, perhaps I got a mal-produced pair of the Metaspeed Sky Plus because the midsole is course and unforgiving (perhaps in the batch my shoes were produced in they accidentaly added to much hardening agent to the foam). This shoe is definately a shoe that dictes how I run and not the other way around like it should be. For me, any shoe that gives you its benefits only if you change your running style or foot strike to accomodate it is a shoe that Im not interested in. Whenever I buy or consider a shoe, my criteria is simple - get the lightest shoe available that provides adequate comfort (adequate defined as does not cause blisters or hot spots, gives my foot the protection required of the run and that meets a generally accepted level of plushness). I dont care if the shoe is a daily trainor, neutral, stability or other. I personally think to much emphasis is placed on the manufacturers running shoe classification. While this can sometimes be a useful guide I found that if this classification is looked at too much, then I am robbing myself of excellent running shoes that fit the criteria I'm looking for. I have ran in "Minimulist" shoes that have a 26mm stack height that are way more comfortable than some of the "Maximalist" shoes that have 35 to 40mm stack height. I think this is another mistake being made, that assumption that the larger the midsole and stack height, the more plush and comfortable the shoe is. Anyway, I think I am the ONE person that hates this shoe. Right up there with the most painful overrated shoes I have ever owned. Definately the most expensive shoes I have ever owned making this shoe an even greater loss.

Hi Guys, knowing that Metaspeed v1 and the Metaspeed + are at the same price which would you pick? Should I go by the color?

I’m not keen on the look from above. They look so wide and clowny. I think it’s because the sole is a different colour from the upper unlike the first one where it sort of merges in. Don’t know. Received mine the other day and was super excited but then I got a stress fracture so I can’t try them just look at them arghhhhh
