Very insightful interview MashaAllah. We have no problem paying through our nose for things and services we value, but when it comes to our scholars, imams and daees we become so miserly. Over the long term, our best and brightest will go to where the money and worldly prestige is, creating this split between perceptions of “deen” and “dunya” in terms of material value. Our scholars are not ascetics and should not be expected to live as such.

I live in the US and have a degree in Engineering , Islamic studies and currently starting my masters in Fiqh As sunnah but work in cyber security. The reason is it pays me well and i have the freedom to preach in any masjid. Currently 100K in the east coast isn't much and your wife will have to work or the imam will have to get a second job. Welcome to the US and the older generation does have the mentality of under paying the imams

@@a4482921 I live in New Jersey and a 3 bedroom town house is 3k or 2Bedroom is 2.5k so when your earning 100k after taxes and after expenses there isn't much left. If your planning on putting your kids in Islamic school then that's 500$ minimum for each kid. 100k for the East coast and states like California isn't much and most Muslims live on the coast or major cities where everything is expensive.

I have been affected by ghosting twice and both where very halal relationships leading to marriage, ie we would talk with muhrams present. My last "ghosting" happened 2 weeks before the nikkah and her reason was that her father changed his mind(I some found out that it wasn't the case).and seen it done to a very close friend of mine. And it destroys whoever the victim is especially if their intentions were pure. I'm not proud but I now think I'll get married in my 40s even in my 50s because I'm a man.

Imams should be the highest paid literally 10 different Jobs as the brother said and leading examples. It's a shame an Imam isn't looked at as a prestigious position in society compared to other jobs like engineer, pilot, doctor.

25:32 who's fault is that? ...The community at large. There is no organisation there to address this so the issue defaults to Mosque committees who generally look for the cheapest options (reflection of the community again). What's happening now is graduates of seminaries (in UK atleast) and other Islamic institutions are turning to academia, professional studies and pursuing other avenues, as it is the only way they can stabilise themselves. Which means in the longrun, there will be a big gap to fill that was filled by these grads once upon a time.

I think the muslim community needs to reassess how men and women meet each other for marriage. Imams don't address any issues. One issue that really needs to be highlighted, is the cultural racism, especially amongst the subcontinent. It's very toxic.

Many famous reverts had a lot of baggage and diseases from their previous life. For example Mohamed Ali and Malcolm X . As they grew older and wiser Islam entered into them and changed them dramatically. So please do not stop people from listening to him. Many of his ideological opinions point towards Islam.
