At my HS you had drivers training at 15 during the summer. It was 3 months long... 3 days a week. You had in class instruction, you had a parking lot area where you did training, and then you had road training. Then in winter you had a week training class where you drove in the snow. Then you had to take the written test. Then you had to take a road test to get your permit. And after that you could get your license. (at 16) I however because my birthday was in Nov, I turned 16 way before my friends. I had to drive with my parents for a year before they would let me get my DL.

Drivers Ed was a JOKE when I was in highschool, we didn't learn anything. Literally the second day our teacher didn't show up and forgot to tell the sub to come in so we just sat in a room until 12 when the teacher came back and gave us pizza to make up.

I’m confused. Where I am from (Germany), you actually sit in to take classes (mandatory) before you have about a million assisted driving hours with an instructor. After that, you take a really hard test where you can’t get more than 3/40 questions wrong before you have the driving test with your instructor and the actual testing person. They will tell you when you fail immediately and I had several friends that failed theirs the first time. Oh, did I mention you pay $2000 at least? How is it soooo easy in America????

Now most places in America they don’t offer this class in school so now we have to take a driving school with a driving instructor outside of school and pay like a little over $200 (at least where I live) and you have to drive at lest 6 hours with your driving instructor and then 50 hours with a person 25 years or older and 15 hours at night over the course of 6 months then you take the driving test this is in California at least

@@alexahlm5599 Holy crap that's insane. My school has three weeks during the summer and one during the fall where students could sign up to take a drivers ed class. I think you have to have your permit to take the class now, but you didn't need it when I took the class. Anyway, if you passed the test in the class you could go to the DMV, pay $5, fill out a form, and get your permit. Then you just needed to say that you drove for a certain amount of hours (like 7 I think) with someone over 21 to get your license.

This can't be the way you get your license. Where I live we have 7 days of lectures then test, two days of first aid lectures then test and 35 days of driving with an instructor, and after all that you can take the driving test. And also our cars are with manual transmission. After passing the driving test you wait for your licence 15 days, and after all of that you can drive legally but you need to have a sign that you are beginner for 2 years.

True Story: I thought my license expired on my birthday in 2020... it expired on my birthday in 2019. I never look at it, I never get carded... I thought I was good. Drove on an expired license for 6 months til I finally had to show it to somebody for some reason and they refused to take it for being expired. Whoopsie-doodle! I thought, "Man this is gonna be a huge fine and a huge pain in the butt"... Nope. I had to RETAKE MY DRIVER'S TEST. I'm helping my teenaged daughter study up to take her tests and I had to get my temps all over again, had to take both the written and road tests... this was also right before the pandemic kicked off too, so I spent a huge amount of time in the DMV with several hundred of my nearest and dearest total strangers. Fun times. Moral of the story... check your license every year on your birthday.
