@@Kristina-mm2rl I can't speak for this person's experience, but for me I find going on the pill helped in 2 main ways! 1) I knew exactly when I would have a period so can better prepare, the risk of getting caught off guard was basically gone, 2) I found my periods got much lighter and pain of cramps was greatly decreased! This may not be the case for everyone but it's been great in my experience (been on the pill for almost 5 years)

Well for me, I tried birth control but it made me have very strong cramps which i never had before (even when I wasn't on my period) it is indeed good to know exactly when your period comes but I also had a stronger period that often lasted longer. So you have your period two weeks and then nothing for a week and bammm it comes back all of the sudden. Therefore the pill doesn't work fir me, after ending it, I never had any cramps again and all is great again 🤷🏻 probably depends from one person to the other 🤔

it’s also SUPER IMPORTANT to know that antibiotics can affect birth control and make it LESS effective!! not a lot of women know this and doctors don’t tell you. EDIT: birth control definitely varies and this statement might not apply to every single person and/or method. it’s just important to ask your pharmacist and doctor to see what affects your birth control and which one is right for you.

It is important to know, but whenever I was prescribed an antibiotic while on the pill my doctor would warn me, as well as my pharmacist, and it would say on the antibiotic insert and on the bottle as well. It's important to either a)see you primary care physician whenever possible when you need a new prescription or b)always inform every health care provider who may be treating you of ALL medications you are taking, as well as c)read up on drug interactions yourself before adding something new into the mix, even if it's simply over the counter.

* nie * Oh that might be true that the side effects can appear when you stop taking the birth control, I actually never really thought of that. But maybe I just simply don’t notice anything anymore because I’ve been on the pill for so long, well come thinking about it I actually can’t remember if I had any side effects when I started on the pill? 🤔 but I understand if people are scared of doubtful whether or not to take birth control because no one wants those crazy side effects you may get. But I’ve to say that being on the pill is so much easier. Like I said it helps with the flow of your bleeding and pain. But the only side effect I got from the pill is a bit of weight gain which in general a lot of medication can cause. I’ve epilepsy and even those medication has a side effect of weight gain.. great 🙈 btw sorry for this long comment!

I'm glad I found all this out on the internet. Our hormones really affect us, just look at the fluctuations in mood, energy level, and libido over our cycles. Taking that into consideration it makes sense that hormonal BC would have pretty big effects. Those effects can be positive or negative, it really depends on how your body in particular reacts to each hormone. There's a lot of natural variation between women (and trans men, afab enbies ect.).

Alissa Paige yes! People tend to shy away from this subject and that’s a big mistake. Whenever the subject of women’s reproductive health comes up a lot of people quickly say time out, that’s just TMI. But when it comes to health and well being, TMI just does not apply. My 20 year old daughter passed away in September of 2018 due to blood clots in her lungs that were triggered by her use of a combination hormonal birth control pill. Information needs to shared because birth control effects every woman differently and no doctor can predict with any degree of certainty how a particular birth control product will effect a particular woman. Women owe it to themselves to at least learn about natural alternative options.which are hardly ever discussed by traditional doctors. You can Google “natural contraception” , “natural birth control” or visit www.naturalwomanhood.org

Alissa Paige thank you so much. I also have a daughter who is four years younger than her sister and her heart truly aches. Yesterday I just happened to come across some old photos of the two of them through the years. Many women do not feel comfortable with natural contraception and I certainly respect that choice. It just saddens me that so many women are not even made aware that natural alternatives are available. Most doctors will not even bring up the subject of natural alternatives. They will recommend that a woman try as many different pills as possible until they find one that “works” for them. Women have a right to be treated better.

I have been on birth control since I was 17 years old. At first, I was on depo and I was on that for three years. (No doctor told me that the recommended time for depo was 2 years). Turns out depo caused the bones in my foot to lose calcium and caused me to have a foot fracture I did not know about for MONTHS until I went cause my foot was swollen! Depo made me depressed and caused my anxiety to spin out of control. So I switched over to the pill, and I HATED IT. Caused my to have constant migraines. I dropped it after a month. I finally found a birth control, the insert in the arm, and I love it. I have not had the common side affect of having a constant period (thank god) but the common side affect I have with it is being emotional, not depressed or having anxiety. Girls, birth control is a swing and a miss, it can take YEARS to figure out which one works for you. Don’t give up hope on birth control, but it is different for everyone. Do your research!

Birth control (not sure if just one type) can help with pcos symptoms. At 19 I was diagnosed with PCOS with high testosterone levels which made my periods heavy(like go through a super plus tampon in an hour or two), last for 7-9 days and would go months 3-4 months without my period and it just show up randomly, and the cramps. The cramps were so bad. After my OBGYN doctor told me my what symptoms were that occur with PCOS I have had it since I started my period at 11 and I had no idea. My bff in HS kept telling me it wasnt normal but I just kept saying I'll grow out of it because that's what I was told. I was never told that irregular and heavy periods could be something out of normal. Been taking it for 2 years and I'm so happy. My periods come on time, last 4 days, and are soo much lighter which I'm very thankful for. I was homeschooled through middle school so idk if they talk about it but wish there was more education about our cycle and basically to look more into it if a cycle has been as irregular as mine. My mom just taught me about how a child is conceived and about STI's

My pharmacy changed their birth control brand they stocked and I had horrible side effects (even though hormones should have been the same). Swapped pharmacies and been fine since.

My birth control pill was a direct cause of a pulmonary embolism blood clot that almost took my life. I was never informed by my doctor About how common this actually is I was 21 at the time it happened. I got very lucky a lot of women that have the same type clot I have do not survive. Birth control pills and anything that messes with your hormones is no joke.

can‘t speak for all German gynecologists of course, but mine and my cousin‘s doctor were pretty experienced with this... She asked me if there haf been any thrombosis cases in my family when I considered taking the pill, then I had to undergo blood testing at a special clinic in Berlin, got tested positive on an inherited blood coagulation disorder and got a prescription for estrogen-free birth control to prevent the same horrible thing you had, this is so important bc so many women have this without knowing, so glad that it wasn‘t too late for you!!!!

I'm a medical student and a BRCA gene mutations is firstly generally associated with breast cancer. And I also wanted to say that higher levels of estrogen is associated with cancer (be it breast, ovarian or uterine cancer) so taking a birth control pull containing estrogen actually increases your chance of getting cancer (mainly breast). @buzzfeed can you please go through your content in order to prevent misleading your audiences. I was on birth control continuously for years, then last year I ran out, and by the time I saw my GYN for a refill it had been over 2 months without a period. I got bloodwork and they said I was going through menopause (I'm in my 20s). I was having hot flashes and everything. I had an ultrasound and my ovaries were super tiny. They told me I'd have a really hard time having kids, but I don't want them so I wasn't too worried about that. Then eventually my period came back, but it was missing for like 9 months. I don't know if it actually had to do with birth control, though. Once my levels went back in the normal range the specialist was like byeeee. I'm back on birthcontrol, though, because I don't want no miracle baby.

The actual problem with men taking birth control wasn't the side effects. The problem is they produce so much sperm, compared to the eggs we produce monthly. They would have to take so much of it, it would unfortunately be kind of rediculous. And then all sperm levels are different, etc. I t would be a ton of pills and hormones, regardless. We just have to make sure no egg attaches. So that is part of why there is no alternative regarding men.

I’m 20 now and was planning to keep taking them but my FREAKING gynecologist (now no longer my gynecologist) wouldn’t respond to me or the pharmacy asking for a refill so I stopped cold turkey and I fear my period could come any second.
