12 months ago today, I landed in the USA and then arrived in Gettysburg for a wonderful week of exploring, learning, eating and drinking. And had a day at Antietam, too. Not pining for that right now, of course. Not one bit. Please keep making these great episodes. You and the American Battlefield Trust were who tipped the scales in favour of visiting. Thank you.

82nd Illinois was organized in Springfield and also contained large amount of Germans from McLean and Peoria Counties in Central IL plus those from Madison and St. Clair counties bordering St. Louis, MO, 300 miles south of Chicago. Not just “Chicago Germans” it was a statewide Illinois German and European immigrant regiment 😉.
