I use an Asian washcloth. Rough as hell, but removes the dead skin as well as dirt, making me feel cleaner. If people don't want to use a washcloth, at least use a poof or SOMETHING. I can't understand when people don't use something. I want to ask these people if they wash their dishes with their hands alone. Same principal.

Washing dishes with a rag is strange....People use sponges, not cloth of some sort. Do you use a dish rag to wash your dishes with? Isn't dish rags to dry the dishes?
@McGregorGirl
@McGregorGirl 3 ай бұрын
@@LovelyLittleLillies I soak my dishes, and will use a scrubber for stubborn stuff that sticks. But most of my dishes I personally do like using dish clothes ( not dish towels, which are for drying ). I can get into the crevices better with them and most things come off with ease after soaking in really hot soapy water. I prefer it to sponges because I can put it in the laundry and pull out a fresh one each time due to bacteria. Sponges to me get a smell pretty quickly as they take so long to dry even when squeezed out. I think I got this from my mom who was on Joan Crawford levels of housekeeping LOL Tends to be a trait with the Japanese. Even in her 60's she was on her knees every night wiping down the kitchen floor because she didn't like "mop smell" and couldn't reach or see some things she could closer up. Most people mop. She wouldn't let any of us do it for her either. Its just personal preference at the end of the day.

I'm an Australian white woman (with a mix of English, Scottish and Irish ancestry) and I grew up using washcloths (we call them flannels) and still use them today. I can't speak for other white cultures of non English descent, but unfortunately using a washcloth did become associated with poverty in certain quarters (it's a whole bullshit classist thing). As far as I can tell, especially from my own family history there's a few reasons why the myth of 'washcloth ='s poor came about. 1) A pervasive myth that you can only really get clean by having access to running water, and a shower, or by soaking yourself in a bath. If you go back to, say, the Victorian era, only the very wealthy had the means to afford the heating costs of a regular full immersion bath, and pretty much everyone else bathed with a washstand/washbasin, a washcloth or flannel, and whatever soap they could afford. It's called a 'stand up wash', which is exactly what it sounds like, you use a basin of water, a washcloth and whatever soap you have and you wash your whole body standing up (or sometimes seated on a small stool if you were old or infirm). 2) Attitudes towards poverty being a moral failing, especially during the times of of Workhouses, and poor people being too undisciplined, lazy and stupid to just not be poor, or to know how to keep themselves clean properly. A lot of my ancestors came from the slum areas of the east end of London (around Whitechapel, Limehouse, etc), and were in and out of various Workhouses due to periodic destitution. Some of the Workhouses back then would've had the false attitude that a poor person needed an extra good scrubbing in order to get truly clean (many Workhouses also expected entire rooms of full of people to share the same tub of washing water, so I guess you needed to scrub properly with a washcloth in order to make sure you got rid of the scum that was left after however many people had just washed themselves in the same water you were expected to clean yourself in). 3) As running water, and the ability to heat water became more available to the average person, those were still using a washbasin and washcloth to bathe themselves were singled out as being obviously too poor to afford such amenities as showers and baths. My Grandmother was born in 1914 and didn't have access to running water until she got her first government subsidised house in the 1940s. Prior to that she still managed to bathe twice a day using a washbasin, washcloth and some cheap soap, so this idea that not having access to running water meant you were obviously poor was based more on classist ideas of poor people not having the ability to be properly clean. I grew up in the 70s and washcloths were absolutely a regular part of washing/bathing for me. In my family we wouldn't have even dreamed of sitting down for breakfast without first having washed our face, hands, neck, and behind the ears, before we'd even had our after breakfast shower. Washcloths for us weren't just about hygiene either, they also did help save money. For example bar of soap will last longer if applied to a washcloth rather than just sudsing yourself with it, and using a washcloth means you can get yourself clean a lot quicker and thereby save money on things like water and heating costs.

So when I watch them and then I fold them after drying high temp I know which ones have been used for the face and which ones have been always used for the body never been an issue a lot cleaner for me and my skin stays smooth and soft exfoliated.

The typical washcloth that we in North America use aren't common throughout the world. I have stayed in all kinds of hotels on 6 continents and I have gotten to the point to when I check into a hotel outside of North America, I don't expect a washcloth. Higher end hotels tend to have them (sometimes you have to request though). But for other type of hotels...don't expect them. Not saying that you won't see them, but just don't expect them.

I use the wash cloth for my face, bath poof for the body and hand clean the azz hole and kitty and not at the same time to avoid cross contamination. Once a week I’ll use the cloth and scrub the whole body as it does better than the puff. And always rinse the cloth out and hang dry. Don’t use for more than 3-4 days or swap daily if you clean your bits with it. 😊

You know, I have a theory as to why white people don’t need to use a washcloth. The reason is that the majority of white people don’t shed as mush as ours does. Thus not needing to exfoliate daily like we do. Reason for my theory is that my boyfriend is white and does not use a washcloth and one time we showered together, I used a a white washcloth on him and the damn thing was clean @_@. I mean no sign of dirt on it and I washed his back y’all. I mean I scrubbed it and nothing. On top that, his skin felt soft. So when you think about it, it makes sense. Why we have to use lotion or our skin gets ashy. That’s not ash, that’s dead skin flaking off. It also makes me thinks that’s why we age slower than they do. Because our skin is constantly rejuvenating thus keeping it looking youthful and supple 😊

Skincare should be gentle, not harsh. Over scrubbing with a washcloth strips the skin of natural oils that keep a person from being itchy, dry and flaky etc.....so it all depends on how one uses a washcloth. But they aren't necessary. You may not like the answer, but: it really depends on you, your skin and your health. My wife is a dermatologist....
