Couples with different cultural backgrounds discuss their differences in personal hygiene and make some new discoveries about their significant other. I LITERALLY just found out my husband does this!! i will say as a black woman i dated a native american man for years and we both had VERY similar hygeine techniques. wash cloth/loofa, washing your face separately, and moisturizing after we get out. yes culture plays a huge part but it's really how they were taught growing up. and clearly a lot of people are teaching bare minimum hygiene to their kids...

Re washing with panties: It’s like washing with a rag/washcloth. You wash your underwear. Now it’s clean and it’s a piece of cloth- which is what a rag is. We were taught not to ‘save’ underwear for bulk washing. So don’t have a stack of underwear you wore for the week and then wash all at once. Plus we didn’t have dryers so it’s on the clothesline outside. Saving it for a week meant you had a row of panties and depending on where you lived and how many people of families you lived with (sharing a yard space) it means other people have access to your underwear. Something you don’t want. Of course how effective this bathing with a panty is depends on the size of the panty.

I've converted to it because I was using a bristle brush that was overexfolisting me and aggravating my eczema but I will be going back to a loofah soon. I switched from loofah to bristle brush because I didnt feel that the loofah was very hygienic since it trapped moisture and bacteria

I’ve actually spoken to my dermatologist about this. She told me that it’s not necessary to exfoliate every day and that all you really need is to soap your private parts and your under arms every day; you don’t even need to use soap on the rest of your body every day. She said if you want to exfoliate a couple of times a week that’s fine but over exfoliating your skin can actually dry it out and lead to more wrinkles later and it’s just not necessary. You don’t need to use soap all over unless you’ve gotten genuinely dirty throughout the day, like if you’ve worked out or something.Personally I exfoliate two times a week on average, and just use soap the rest of the days (but I do soap everything).

There's a difference between a ph balanced cleanser and washed and soap. Using bar soap for example will kill good bacteria, strip moisture and raise the pH which can cause infections.

But you really should be washing your vulva (the outer part) with soap, it is not self cleaning. Ikr ? Im white (eastern european) and we use sponges(those that you clean the school board with ) lol . however i may not attest for everyone, some ppl i think are using their hands which is nasty. I use exfolitating gloves and a bar soap and then i go with a lufa and a shower gel . When I m forced to travel and I cant for what reason bring my gloves/lufa and im forced that night to wash with my hand is the worst experience ever. I dont even feel clean after and I consume far way more liquid soap by using your hand. It's just dirty, I hate even thinking about it. And also not washing your legs. Ewww. Growing up in a kurdish household, we have this cloth/loofah thing that’s super rough and our parents would wash us with that thing and your whole body would turn red. Now that I’m older, I cannot imagine using anything else. If it’s not the rough loofah thing that’s exfoliating my skin, I don’t feel clean. And before I leave the shower, I put oil alllll over my body before I put the bathrobe on. I stay moisturized. And yes, you always wash your legs.

People of color usually come from countries that are more hot and people sweat more. If they don't come from those countries they come from that culture most of the time. I lived in Thailand for a couple months and it was imperative that I showered often and washed from head to toe to remove sweat and dirt. I live in Canada. Its winter. My legs are not dirty and the soapy water running down them is perfect. If I was them too much here they will get dry and irritated. Also caucasian hair often does need to be washed more than Afircan hair. It's a different type of hair. I'm not going to look at a black person and call then dirty because they wash their hair less than me and they shouldn't look at a white person and call then dirty because they wash their legs less often.

West Africans ( 🇸🇱) use a Sampo aka fish net like thing to exfoliate and lather ourselves up and we just wash our underwear in the shower either before/after bathing bc its not until theyre taken care of that you’re actually done. Regardless I don't feel clean without some form of exfoliation on my skin when I'm showering. Even when the girl said she uses her finger nails to help scrub her body I don't know I just don't feel like it's the same type of clean feeling that you get from a wash cloth or loofa. But hey as long as you're not funky I guess what works for you works for you. Yes because if the cloths aren't washed properly and replaced regularly, they harbour bacteria with all the dead skin cells and dirty they've collected from your body. I would imagine the people using only their hands wash their hands after also. Whatever you use, you need to clean. I use a body puff which I wash when I'm done and because it's porous it dries pretty quickly unlike a cloth. It also gets replaced regularly.
