Problem with Americans is that they mostly only learn about "America".. as if that's all there is. When they learn about other countries it's always in relation to America, as in what relations America has with that country.. Not actually about that country itself.. There are few that actually show interest beyond their own country. So, it's nice to occasionally see an American taking interest besides getting "wasted" in the red light district. Keep it going, i'm curious what comes next. Greets from Maastricht.

@@ConnorWidmaier Just curious to see how things are from an American perspective being here. I can imagine things are quite different culturally. Just be honest and opinionated, don't shy from speaking your mind. We like direct and clear communication. So, whatever is on your mind.. just say it.. we do too ;)

@@mrnobody043 In the US, when it comes to European history, it's normally that of Great Britain since they were our mother country. We'll study some other world history, ancient history, a lot of US history, and the history of our given state. When it comes to Americans' views of the different European countries, we generally like them and the people there. Sometimes you'll get quite a few negative thoughts about Russia for obvious reasons. The US and France have been in marriage counseling for 220 years, so that's a different story too. The thing is, most Americans like most Europeans and yet we realize that a large percentage of Europeans don't like, or very much loathe, Americans and the US. We find that unfortunate, but it seems to be the current state of things.

I’ve had too many interactions with people from Western Europe and they so loath and hate on Americans. Smug, condescending , and hurtful at times. I guess this is just their direct way of communicating. The video doesn’t reflect that attitude which is refreshing.

Me too man, but I've had those kinda interactions less and less over the years. It's been kinda refreshing but at first I often felt that condescending attitude.

Merica, to me.. Great music, great movies, great entertainment, Americans lnow how to do entertainment. But politics is a joke.. And i start to think and belief that the education level over there is very low. But the few Americans i have met here or in other countries, they were all okay, nice people, seemed smart and tolerant. But i guess those are the exceptions, since only 40% have a passport, i think there is a big gap in the country itself. But i've never been there.

Thoughts on Trump?

@ConnorWidmaier haha, how to speak about trump without being censored, thats going to be hard for me. He is a populist, he plays on emotions and the ignorance of the 'common' folk. A snake of a salesman. During the debate with Kamala, trump said nothing, except nonsense. Those judges needed to intervene and clarify what trump was saying was completely false. My favourite statement he made is the cats and dogs that he mentioned, then we have all the drama around Trump. In short, he is a crook, a mafia boss, you know? But the best part of it all, people eat his nonsense as breakfast. I do have to give him that, he played the American citizens and he played them well, thats how I see it. Did you see his speech? He said something about renaming an area, i believe the gulf of Mexico, its just nonsense. How come we are taking him serious? I am fascinated by the phenomenon. 😅 I dont know what's going on, but it is insanity and i do believe that to keep the citizens ignorant is what he wants, because he can get away with it. I am truly a worried a world citizen, nothing good can come from him.

@@ConnorWidmaier2nd try i got censored again. Trump is a crook, he doesn't speak in an intellectual manner at all. He is a populist, a snake of a salesman. Everything that science is saying (our combined knowledge of humans) its being ignored and he makes heavy statements, like dril dril dril... Or even flat out lies like, eating the cats and dogs. I am truly surprised how a man like that can become a president. But maybe i am more surprised about the people who voted for him, because they clearly didn't listen to what he was saying and they have no idea what science is. And that is worrying, because now you have a big group of people who can believe in anything, you just have to sell it right. For reasons that I don't understand, but trump is doing it. He is selling it to the people and they eat it like candy.

@ConnorWidmaier i cant say my thoughts, this is my 3rd attempt. But i can write a book about the guy. He is a salesman and he sold himself to the public and they believe him. He is an anti-intellectual and gets away with the weirdest statements, people are defending him. Its quite a feat if i am honest, but he is a crook and has no eye for the future or for the good of his own country or the world... He goes against the consensus of science, there are many wrong happenings around trump. Its mafia, its all about money and power. Sorry for my bad answer, but this is the 3rd time I'm typing this. Perhaps we should meet up and talk about it, thats easier.

I've noticed Europeans kind of expect all visitors to know of EU geography and history but on the other hand how much they themselves know of George Washington ,Chief Red Cloud or Coca Cola.

In this type of content a lot of generalisations are made. That being said the examples you gave don't prove anything. I think more Dutch people would be able to tell you who the founding fathers were than there are Americans that would be able to tell you the name of the guy who founded the Dutch republic. I also don't think Red Cloud is that historically important when you have a limited time to teach people history during high school. The same goes for teaching people the history of the coca cola company.

@@ConnorWidmaier Its like Red Cloud not playing a major part in history from the Dutch perspective. I wouldn't imagine William of Orange being a big subject from the American perspective but you can correct me if I'm wrong.
