I don’t even know what I am doing here since I’m a guitarist. But you’re such a superb artist...and I like to listen to technique. And at the end of the day your speaking is so gentle and sweet. You’re a good guy Augustine 👍🏼 Keep on!

I actually have the left index tendinitis. I had to stop practicing guitar and organ because of the lateral stretch usually needed. I was very frustrated. But then I realized violin was the only instrument I could play without worsening it. I just have to avoid extensive double stop playing and keep a minimum of awareness about my hand, then I can practice for hours. So this is how I got back on violin after quite a long hiatus. And this is also how I discovered your channel that I really enjoy. See you around.

Great upward staccato tips - Won’t feel as guilty in my transition closer to the frog if the bow skips a little. Used to think I just wasn’t getting it right by not keeping the bow frozen to the strings. You’re as amazing as your playing, maestro.

Leopold Auer and Itzhak Perlman and Ruggiero Riggi all emphasized to practice slowly all the time, do you also practice slowly a lot? / Do you look at the fingers when you practice? / How much time do you put in scale practicing?/ Do you use Carl Flesch scale system?

Fingered octaves vs normal octaves? I love your version of the Ysaye 6th sonata, and I noticed you use normal 1-4 octave fingering where I've seen most others use the fingered octaves. Why did you decide to do it they way you do?

Thank you for that Augustin. I like your solution for an alternative to a shoulder rest. When players ask me about shoulder rests I remind them to think about their neck & spine & to choose a shoulder rest & maybe think of a different chinrest too (the Teka design being a popular choice) that generally allows the neck to stay vertical to minimise injury there. What advice do you have for chinrests? Anyhow, about injuries of the hand etc., I had to have a ganglion removed surgically from my left wrist as I was reaching around with an acute angle for high positions on my viola which just aggravated it. I felt the pain when playing in an orchestra & should have had it checked sooner because I was out of action to play for a number of weeks after surgery. Do you have any comments in that regard?

Could you spare a moment also to talk about your string choice and what you have tried over the years? Also when and how much rosin to apply... I am using the Andrea rosin and I somehow never seem to have to apply it much and just put it on when I feel I'm losing sound but it doesn't seem to be very scientific. I used to put too much rosin and it would make it very difficult to play and messy.

I am self taught and find staccato easier with a Russian bow hold, I think it may be something to do with bow weight. Staccato sounds better when my wrist is relaxed. I have also got some nodules on my left hand index finger tendons and try to use my left index finger not to often. My bow hand had a nodule which was removed in August 2021 but made a full recovery. I am so glad to be playing violin again after the surgery😁
